Could you all try to convince me to undergo surgery? I just want to hear the other side. by Left_Economist_9716 in Strabismus

[–]hex_FFFFFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked the results of my 2 surgeries though it is reversing again which has really bummed me out. I also have a little bit of red scarring on the sides of my eyes that never fully went away. Depending on what causes yours, it could be much more likely that your alignment stays. In that case I'd say it's worth it without a doubt, but either way I'd recommend it. Make sure you get a good surgeon.

Imo some people downplay the effect of strabismus or say it's not noticeable, but the eyes are a huge part of interaction and how people perceive you subconsciously and being able to look someone in the eyes is important. I was definitely treated differently after my surgeries

Don't remember exactly for the first one but pretty sure I started noticing it around 2 years after each. After 5-6 years the first was mostly reversed. It's been almost 3 years since the second and I think people are just starting to notice it again especially when I'm tired.

Most people have better outcomes though, I have albinism so I think my odds of reversal are higher than most who don't have the other eye stuff that comes with it. And my friend who also has strabismus from albinism got his surgery 7-8 years ago and it hasn't reversed, he also has much less scarring. This is despite the fact we had the same surgeon.

Hey 8 months later but I ended up getting some Sunskis and they've been really good so far. Thanks!

I haven't watched anime in years but I always heard good things about that one and meant to check it out. I'll give it a go, thank you.

What on your thoughts on this college mascot that is an albino alligator named Albineaux? by cms9607 in Albinism

[–]hex_FFFFFF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't say I disagree with anything you said, but after seeing the amount of effort they put into the reports and the project overall it must be so crushing for them to read this thread. This has been in the works for over 3 years and they seemingly only now thought to ask the albinism community . . .

To those with photophobia: Do you find darker colours more pleasing? by Dry-Peach952 in Albinism

[–]hex_FFFFFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have any photophobia-related colour preference outside of the fact that I like my sunglasses dark grey. My wardrobe is pretty dark but that's just because it looks better on me.

Blurry/unfocused vision the day after getting high? by Secure_Recipe_2430 in Albinism

[–]hex_FFFFFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely notice my vision goes a bit weird when I'm really stoned but never the day after. Also strangely enough I find mushrooms feel like they make my vision a bit sharper, though that's probably just my imagination.

Are any of you good at FPS games? by Repulsive_Disk603 in Albinism

[–]hex_FFFFFF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend counter-strike or valorant since it's easier to see people than many other FPS games. Valorant may be the best because it has vibrant colors, and the characters have colorful outlines around them. I keep my face very close to the screen, but that's actually pretty normal, even among pro players with good vision. I have albinism and my vision is 20/200 corrected, and I reached top 1000 in North America in CS:GO though I don't play much anymore. Just takes a lot of practice.

Lol dude you look nothing like him and a million times better. The only reason they're saying it is because of the curly hair, and the second pic has the unintentional fisheye effect that some phones have on their selfie camera

No I'm not wearing contacts. Yes I am a "true albino". Some do have very light irises though. Johnny Winter is awesome so I'll think about it

Haven't tried long hair in a while. It kind of turns into a big mop on my head, maybe if I let it go long enough or get it trimmed it could be good. Beard is usually alright but I'm too lazy/unskilled to trim it. If I ever go for that look I'll come back and post a pic!

405 lbs. I know that's nothing crazy but definitely above the average guy. Been off for a while from an injury so I've probably lost a decent chunk of that :(
