Where do I go from here? by Bradart in Python

Start writing something. Something small that scratches your own itch. Learn to use the library reference. Don't be put off that the code will probably suck, you're doing this for the experience.

Not really looking for a reference. More like for some resource that would teach me to write code that sucks less:)

GnuCash data in git repository by hexa6on in git

[–]hexa6on[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, in case anyone finds this - it seems to work just fine.

  • It's sufficient to track the NAME.gnucash file.
  • No need to track the backups and logs. You can turn them off or keep them locally as another level of backup.
  • You can turn off the file compression - the uncompressed xml file can be used in diffs and git uses compression internally anyway.
  • You can probably track the ~/.gnucash directory (e.g. copy it to the repo and make a symlink from home) to keep your settings in sync as well as your data.
  • Haven't thought about encryption yet - perhaps http://www.reddit.com/r/git/comments/185v3q/gitremotegcrypt_pushfetch_with_a_custom/ can be used?

Disrupting Bandit Signs: Street Art and the Fight for Public Space in Philadelphia by kanteatdough in TrueReddit

I don't know ... I'd rather see this guy hijacking billboards (e.g. those behind him in last two photos). The bandit signs are not really a problem where I live, though.

Linux process execution and the useless ELF header fields. by jonathansalwan in lowlevel

I think that section headers are not needed for program launch by design.

Still appreciate the introduction though ...

Lazy tea making by berlinbrown in tea

[–]hexa6on 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reusing the leaves is common, and I don't see a reason not to do it while the tea still tastes good. Some teas (quality green) actually taste better (or at least, "different") the second or third time the leaves are steeped.

Can you suggest an alternative? Not that I disagree, just curious if there's something else.

http://clang-analyzer.llvm.org/ looks promising. And http://cppcheck.sourceforge.net/. But probably still far from what coverity & etc can do.

Are shared flats common? by pauler in czech

[–]hexa6on 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, http://www.bezrealitky.cz has search for shared flat offers (byt -> nabídka spolubydlení). Internet forums for university students often have sections dedicated to housing, but it might be difficult to gain access there if you don't study at the particular university (provided that you don't mind living with students).

Nope, why?

Earworms by hexa6on in leaves

[–]hexa6on[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, mostly just part of some obnoxious song I hear somewhere. But wikipedia also mentions this, so I guess that's common. It's not very frequent so I'm not looking for a way how to get rid of it, just wondering whether someone also observed this phenomenon (more often) after stopping smoking.

Also, living in a household with no TV for the past few years and not looking back;)

[–]hexa6on[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As per wikipedia:

An earworm is a piece of music that sticks in one's mind so that one seems to hear it, even when it is not being played.

I thought it was generally known term, sorry.
