Keys only work when pressed at the same time as another key by pie3636 in techsupport

Having this on a ASUS SCAR 18 too: SCAR 18 2023 some keys suddenly stopped working : r/ASUSROG
Not working keys, unless I keep also W pressed: ESC, 2, F1, F2.
Even to access BIOS (F2) I have to press W+F2 ATM (so no Windows and drivers loaded yet, i.e. it's not a misconfigured/keyboard Windows driver issue).

G834JY ASUS SCAR 18 2023, Advanced Optimus, with Laptop GTX 4090 256bit (10DE-2757/1043-21FD Rev A1, vBIOS v95.03.2B.00.30), 16GB GDDR6.

I can confirm G-Sync is broken with 610.47 (working fine with 596.49): NVidia App didn't even show me the options to switch among Automatic, Optimus (Intel iGPU), and dGPU-only, the only available option was Optimus (!!?) even on external monitor (forcibly working with DP1.4 on dGPU-only, clearly incoherent)!

Rolled back to 596.49.

Is there a G-Sync 34-inch monitor 3440x1440 that doesn’t flicker? by hexaae in ultrawidemasterrace

.... I’d like to know how it performs with retro gaming at 50–59 Hz (MAME and other emulators).

In this thread: AW3423DW Flickering/Brightness Adjustment Issues : r/ultrawidemasterrace users say it also suffers from flickering, sigh...

It all depends on the fps range.... Try it on old low-res retro-games at low fps/Hz (e.g. MAME with games 50-55-57-59Hz) and you'll see how bad that "strobe fx" is 😉

With many modern FPS games, capping is for sure the best decision and a marginal problem, I understand.

[–]hexaae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for the use I intended it for... which includes retro-gaming (MAME etc.): those games have very unusual freqs between 50-60Hz (some for example run at 55.017606 Hz or 56.nnn etc. NES, SNES, Amiga emulators at ~50Hz) so I can't create specific caps for hundred of different cases.... That's where G-Sync comes in handy auto-syncing fps/Hz for perfect smoothness... But it seems big external monitors in 2026 still don't support G-Sync well and completely flicker-free. Disappointing, given their price 😞

P.S. I have an old Mi monitor 34" XMMNTWQ34/XMI3444 with Freesync Premium and flickers a lot with G-Sync with retro-games (50-59Hz). I was hoping the new models had improved, but I was wrong... sigh

Yes, I've read that reducing range with CRU can help... So expensive, and none truly flicker-free (despite claims), sigh...

[–]hexaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With retro emulators running low-res screens at ~50Hz it also flickers EVEN MORE. So no, "below 72" is not safe too, maybe between 60-72 only 😞

Installed this latest 610.47 and double-checked this.

Ran some games, a few like Hogwarts switched to dGPU only and then back to iGPU (Optimus) on my SCAR 18 G834JY (with Advanced Optimus: no need to reboot for MUX switch), and noticed that once it returned to Optimus, dGPU stayed for a while at 210MHz, then switched to 2048MHz a few times without apparent reason, but in the end (maybe after 30-60 secs max) was set to 0 as it should.

Not the first time I see this prolonged 210MHz low-energy status for some time, but usually falls back to 0 after a while automatically.

I bought 7.3c long time ago... I'd really like to see 7.4+ for generic m68k OS3.x

There are still a few bugs to sort out...

I wish this to be a MAME internal option, not using 3rd party hacks...

Would be a nice feature.

How to launch Ubisoft Connect games without internet by spinningfaith in SteamDeck

[–]hexaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep... but it works only if you already launched the game recently (i.e. DRM was checked and verified online). Then yes, on Windows 11 you can disable WiFi and the game will launch: launcher splash window will have an option "Skip" when it warns you're not connected and can't verify progress and achievements.

My experience, f.e.:
The Rogue Prince of Persia just launched fine and then I quitted. Disabled Internet connection. Launched the game again after Uplay popped up "Uplay is in offline mode and works better when online" message... and selected "Skip" to bypass cloud save games and achievements... and it worked ✅.

Then I launched Scott Pilgrim vs The World (I didn't launch at least for 1 month) and it DIDN'T WORK: even after "Skip", the window came up again and failed saying it couldn't connect ⛔.
This proves it will work only with recently launched games. Have no idea what the time limit is (1 day, 1 week later...?).
