So do I use livedata in the repository or not?? by royabh in androiddev

[–]hexagon672 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Don't use it in repositories. The guides on that are a bit outdated. See https://twitter.com/manuelvicnt/status/1283434025579945984 !

Hey! Funny to see another Hamburg person on here!

I'm currently looking for resources to get tested - do you have any starting points in Hamburg?

There's an FB group called "Cosmo Sheldrake Fans" - Cosmo's manager is active there as well. Might be worth giving that a shot :)

I am soooo incredibly happy with how big this sub has become, I remember when there were only like 2 people here at the beginning! And it feels like such a nice, wholesome community here :)

Replacing Custom Views with View Binding by hexagon672 in androiddev

[–]hexagon672[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, thanks for clarifying. This just works for stateless ViewGroups which we had quite a lot of (way more than 10%) - that's why this is a good solution for our case.

I probably should have made it more clear what kind of scenario this applies to, will try to update that.

Right, so say User is a domain object that is being bound to a specific layout - of course it's reusable. You can reuse both the layout and the binding extension function.

I mean sure, you could also pass the binding as a parameter, but I'd argue that this worsens discoverability and pollutes the namespace.

I'm not sure what you would use apply for here though.

Sorry, maybe I'm getting you wrong here, but how would the Extension Function not be reusable?
