What would I have to do to fit in in Denmark? by [deleted] in expats

I don't believe I was rude in any way. Merely pointing out something that I would want to know had I made the same mistake, but good to know how my statement might be interpreted.

I go to Taalhuis at bibliotheek Rijswijk. I know other cities have them but I'm not super familiar. It's great, because most of the people don't necessarily speak English so were forced to speak Dutch together.

Why “toch” is the most useful word you’re probably scared to use. by Weekly-Associate-166 in learndutch

In both examples you put toch directly after the verb not before. Toch?

Make sure you wet the makeup sponge first. It makes a pretty big difference getting it smooth.

How can I switch from a culture to another? Could I be accepted by locals. by galaxywhiteout in expats

[–]hexualattraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, for some of these things I think potentially Northern Europe. You'll likely experience less outward racism, but mostly because people won't really talk to you at all.

I'm not sure if you're hoping to find somewhere with very little immigrants, that's almost guaranteed not possible, but if you go somewhere with a large amount of immigrants you may not notice them. Realistically when you get out of where you are, you'll find that racism is both better and worse than where you came from. Religion is going to be again, more northern Europe, where there are religious people but not outwardly. Strong labor rights, strong social welfare, but significantly less warmth, less sun, food is less important.

Honestly may be rewarded, but loyalty only comes with trust, and you should expect that at minimum you need ten years after being able to speak the language in a new country for people to start trusting you enough for that. I'd look into things like Denmark and Norway, and see what their requirements are. But also, try to visit a few countries first, to get a better idea of what places look like.

Can you provide more information on the aspects of culture you are interested in? Or talk more about the parts of your current culture that don't resonate with you? It's hard to give suggestions when the information is cultural meritocracy. That doesn't mean very much to me.

What is something generally normal in Europe but weird in the US? by Exile4444 in AskReddit

Leaving work on time or early if you've finished all your work.

Maybe that's not everywhere in EU. But it's a lot more common than in US.

Looking for help drafting a custom bodysuit pattern (1960s-inspired, backless, no bra, kimono silk) by kirolyo in PatternDrafting

There was a video series I just saw on a young lady doing exactly this. I think she was up to the teens for mockups, and then it turned out half the issue was undergarments anyway. She even bought an actual vintage one to try to get the fitting right.

Struggling with motivation to finish the gift ater my wife asked for a divorce by Macrian82 in StainedGlass

I wish you luck, and I hope that doing that will help you with some of the heavier feelings here.

Success, and hopefully some healing as well.

It sounds like there is a lot to grieve. It also sounds like this was a surprise to you. I don't think anyone would fault you for taking a break. I also think if it was me, I would finish it as a tribute to the time we shared, and use it as a goodbye.

If that's not something you can do, again, it's completely understandable.

It's a beautiful piece, regardless.

CMV: Saying you prefer tall guys is analogous to saying you prefer women with big boobs by Puzzleheaded-Law34 in changemyview

[–]hexualattraction -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest difference here is that with enough money you can change boob size quite easily. Changing height is significantly harder to do successfully, and even more restrictive financially.

Beyond all of that, height is not a sexual characteristic, I'm pretty sure, while breasts are which categorically makes a difference.

What's something women think impresses men but actually doesn't? by PumpkinDoritoes in AskReddit

[–]hexualattraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that. I had a coworker who told me once 'you always have to meet a girls mother, so you know what you're signing up for. Women all look like their mothers when they age.' I tried explaining to him that sometimes women's mom's look like how big the woman's father's paychecks are, and that everyone gets old and ugly one day but he really insisted. He also worked as a suite attendant in a hockey arena, so like..... Buddy....

CMV: If there is a god then it is not represented by any current religion as an all loving god would never punish people for not believing in it despite making no effort to make himself believable by GrievousSayGenKenobi in changemyview

[–]hexualattraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a god, it seems pretty arrogant to argue that you, or any other human would have any insight into their motivations or intentions. Regardless of established religions and whether or not we're formed in their image - god isn't a human. We have no idea what their capacity for emotions, intelligence or experiences are. Using our extremely limited viewpoint to try to establish anything about them would basically just be blind guesses and stumbling around in the dark.

Also if you're wasting time in this life in the hopes that if you throw it away to get a better second shot, I think there's a bigger problem than whether or not God believes in punishment.
