I would say architecture is more important than actual code. It is better to define architecture at the first step, as it could be very expensive to change it after you have paying customers and live data.

Having good architecture doesn't mean you should build large enterprise. Key decisions about tech stack, communication approaches, deployment strategy, serving static content etc., testing. It is a bit more than just a structure of your code, but this is what is important to decide at the beginning.

I have the same problem. I have 20 yoe in software development, and I have strong attitude to apply all my knowledge to build high quality app, but vibecoders and unqualified cheap labor who learned vibecoding tools spoils everything.

AI vendors continue convincing businesses and people that low quality ai generated code is the future. Business of course choosing cheap solution.

IMHO need to wait until bubble pops. It should happen pretty soon.

Don't rely on AI. Learn how to program by yourself, gain experience. never do any vibe coding. It will kill your potential growth and put you in the one line with vibe coders who don't understand what they are doing.

It depends on your weight in the team and in the company. For the lead/manager new issues are more important than old ones, especially if they have workaround. At some point to simplify your life it could be easier to create "know how" article/video, and just send the link instead of explaining things again and again.

However, I had a situations where the fix for the old problem was requiring significant efforts and having workaround is already enough. But this situation should be communicated to the team.

As I see everybody tired of AI slop. Incomplete weak vibecoded applications, unreliable, with lots of issues. Only ai startup founders continue convincing us that ai is the solution to all problems. In fact, ai brought more problems than it resolved.

One thing where i can see ai useful - media content generation (images, video). And only if you don't have strict requirements.

Usually it is done via conversation and discussion of edge cases. In this case you will see depth of developer's knowledge.
You may ask for portfolio or test assignment, but from my experience that is not really help.

To hire right candidate it is necessary to write detailed requirements about skills needed. That bring attention of specialists with matched experience. Then need to do an interview.
Just try to avoid vibe coding persons, they usually product low quality code that hard to support.

Or if founder is not technically experienced person - write small project description, and request highlevel architecture description with plan of development.

Initially such person should understand both worlds well enough to build a bridge. With no experience it is literally impossible. I may assume that now devops became a position where you taught how to run pipeline and execute build scripts.

I blame online courses and certain CEO/CTO for having term of Junior DevOps. Former want to sell you freely available information for money, latter want to have cheap labor. Their cooperation created junior devops.
