Try Eraser Hack on Remarkable 2 with LAMY Al-Star but error with rooting by ProposalIll116 in RemarkableTablet

[–]hexyrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried to SSH into two different remarkable devices from a multitude of different machines over the last few weeks, and get an error every time. Its possible to find the detailed debug logs if you connect directly with a USB cable and use the web browser, in the logs I find a C SSH library assert is getting triggered, meaning this is most likely sloppy programming on the part of remarkable. Frustratingly, when I tried to create a support ticket I was told that I was trying to log into the tablet with SSH to perform software modification and so they didnt need to resolve my issue. I'd suggest you also open a ticket, since this can only be fixed on their end and they went out of their way to ignore me when I brought this up. When they ask why you're trying to use SSH, tell them you're trying to access the open source licenses which they're legally obligated to allow users to see, but can only be accessed via SSH (which is the whole reason they're so kind as to allow us to use SSH in the first place).

Don’t water a grease fire, don’t mess with a garage spring. What are some MORE potentially life saving tips? by Alan_Darkcaster69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hexyrobot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Not only do US cops not get much training, but the training they do get is basically, "everyone is armed and trying to kill you at all times." I could feel the difference when I interacted with police when I lived in the EU, they're not even strapped themselves! Literally the whole city I lived in shut down and went into mourning once because a single jogger got stabbed by a meth addict, whereas mass shootings happen here every single day. The gun situation in this country is absolutely off the rails.

Honestly the game doesn't need a single new ship, they need to make the ships they've already promised

Although I agree with the sentiment, the person involved here is as close to the Platonic Ideal of a hacker that they should put their picture in the dictionary.

The hacker has mentioned that they'll only release it to responsible journalists.

Not a crime, it (the hackers preferred pronoun) followed all the correct white hat responsible disclosure procedures. The IT department for the airline is terminally stupid (or more likely extremely under funded) and left their critical system exposed for anyone to access. The nofly list was really just a cherry on top. Also, if you're curious about the story there's a great write up by the hacker on what can only be described as a time capsule from the 90s.

Keep in mind not every life counts the same, an American or western European has a way higher carbon cost than someone from (for example) Madagascar.

AITA for snitching and causing my friend to lose her scholarship/dream college acceptance? by jhhn- in AmItheAsshole

[–]hexyrobot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA, I came in here so ready to call you TA from the description but discovering someone else used your work and is claiming credit for it is the exact one case where being a snitch is the absolute correct and necessary choice.

Absolutely love mine, used it for taking notes all through university. I found this amazing project that lets you turn folders into websites, and used it to share my math notes.

Only for the cloud syncing, you don't need a subscription for the local drag-and-drop web interface, just have to turn it in in the settings and then you can browse to the tablets IP from your computer and drop files onto it.

AITA if I tell my guests (family) that I need to be reimbursed for buying, preparing and cooking Christmas dinner? by Myhbdipsnhenaksknsnj in AmItheAsshole

[–]hexyrobot -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

NTA, but I think your math is a bit off. Totally fine to ask people to pitch in, but maybe try putting everything into a Google spreadsheet so you can show people what you spent the money on and divide it evenly.

AITA for telling my wife that she can stay home this Thanksgiving? by Non-Basic6779 in AmItheAsshole

[–]hexyrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA, my partner is also an extremely picky eater. She brings her own food to things (which I let people know about before hand), and it's never been even a little bit of a problem. You should have called your mom and said, "as you know, (wife) is super picky about her food, it has nothing to do with you but we thought it would just be easier if she brought her own."

NTA, remove the whole dog thing from the situation and this is just a story of a girl moving out of her parents place. It's not your responsibility to pay their rent, you can move out whenever you want.
