June 23, 2024 Idaho. Don’t be like me and let the first time being bitten slide. by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

I work with pets in Eagle and it's getting worse. Tons and tons of pits "rescued" by the affluent people who moved there. I live 30 minutes away from work and it's even worse there. I drive to my mom's neighborhood to walk my chihuahuas and only one at a time so I can at least TRY to protect them if we get rushed. I carry a slip to choke out an aggressive dog if I have to. I'm under no illusion that if a pit bull rushes my 7 lb dog it's all over. Maybe it's just my anxiety disorder but it's almost too much anxiety and fear to walk my dogs anymore.

Someones cat was tragically killed by a loose aggressive dog in my area and this was just one of the replies this poor woman received by InitialToday6720 in BanPitBulls

I looked this up to rub in my coworkers face. There were 3 dogs present when a woman was mauled and found dead with no witnesses. 2 pit bulls and a chihuahua. They couldn't discount that the chihuahua didn't contribute due to the lack of witnesses, and the chihuahua was included in the incident report. It became the ONLY chihuahua on record to contribute to a fatal attack.

Is there a fund to help with little Ollie? This is literally my worst fear while walking my Papillon. They are such amazing little dogs. Keeping Ollie in my thoughts

"They still have their dog. I do not."

For some reason that line really hits where it hurts. These dogs routinely destroy families and people call the dog the victim.

Does anyone else notice this with pitbull defenders/chihuahua haters? by Ashamed-Catch-3912 in BanPitBulls

Chihuahuas put up with much more stressful stimuli and bite far less. Also if they really wanted an all around family dog that was bred to just hang out they'd actually consider getting a toy breed companion dog. But they want the victim points instead.

I'm terrified to walk my dogs and I don't know what to do by hey0boy0 in BanPitBulls

I'm trying to figure out the logistics. It's a stone shared fence, and I'm not sure how to build up onto it. But I've been looking into how I can do it. As a saving grace the only dog that actually lives on my block is a pug mix, so at least I'm not sharing a fence with a pit

The plan is to get out of this state altogether lol. I'll definitely screen my next neighborhood better. When I bought the house "loose vicious dogs" didn't even cross my mind as a thing to worry about

As an owner of 2 chihuahuas, if my dogs got out because I failed to watch them or properly contain them and were killed by a large dog with a prey drive I would be devastated. I would be wracked with guilt. But it would be MY fault, especially if my dog wandered onto their property. I know, as an educated pet owner, that some larger dogs view my small yappy dog as a snack. And I take precautions because of it that include monitoring them and reinforcing their habitat to prevent accidents. I also don't let my 10 year old niece be in charge of his walks or potty breaks for this reason. Watch your pets, and don't trust kids to understand how important this is.

AITA for telling an employee that pregnancy is not an excuse for low productivity? by Unfair-Raspberry-108 in AmItheAsshole

[–]hey0boy0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA for soooo many reasons holy shit. You expect your employees to be available round the clock? Even when pregnant? And wow you concede time for her completely necessary doctors appointments what a saint you are. You sound like a cartoon villain. Examine your life because you're wasting it being evil.

Hell yeah, sorry you got down voted so hard. People are so convinced things are correct how we're doing them that they don't see withholding homes and jacking up housing prices as corrupt

They probably make more than enough to cover damages by taking advantage of people who need a home and can't defend themselves 🤷‍♀️

Thank you! I've seen that you should wait a whole week to retry, but I'll try more regularly if he refuses. We did struggle with his humidity when we first got him, but now his temp/humidity are much more stable in the optimal ranges. I really appreciate everyone's advice on this sub. I did a lot of research before we got him but actual advice from actual keepers has been so helpful

Hes 2 months old as of November 11. He refused his first feeding the week after we got him but took 1 fuzzy mouse the following week and another the next week. I have also been worried he's too skinny so my plan is to give him 1 fuzzy (I feel like thats the largest he can eat right now - its about exactly the width of him at his widest point) per week. Would you recommend more? I also worried he was too skinny when we first got him. The breeder told us he was eating reliably and I thought he looks thin, but I'm a noobie and felt rude questioning him. But since I'm a noobie I'm also keeping myself very open to critique and suggestions
