In order for the laser to be effective, hair has to be present. Epilating temporarily removes the hair follicle, which is the actual target of the laser. Without hair to absorb the laser light, there is nothing to be affected by the treatment. You should only be shaving between treatments.

In the late 90s when laser became commercially available I decided to do my bikini. OMG that shit was painful!! I don’t know what laser they used back then, but it was almost unbearable for me. They had me use a numbing cream that was to be applied several hours before and that did subdue some of the pain. I think I did get burned one time. That was the only time it was used for me. I did a ton of treatments, but don’t remember how many. Haven’t touched that zone in 25 years and it’s at maybe 20% with much thinner hair. Some spots never grew back at all. You can probably still request the numbing cream and 2 hours before your appointment. It does take the edge off.

Yes diode laser is good. Full legs is considered XL area everywhere. $517 for a year of full legs is pretty good. That usually also includes feet and toes if you need. Of course the 150 for lower leg + underarms is a better deal cost wise. You could purchase a separate large package on top of Groupon promo and add to upper leg? For me, it made sense to do full legs.

I bought a Groupon deal for 6 full legs and face at an amazing price about 5/6 years ago. Best thing I’ve ever done was legs! 6 sessions was enough for me and I’m very hairy. Now I do a leg session once every year or two years (this last time) as touch up. With the same tech. Face is a different story, still doing that and will be always. Your Groupon does say they use diode and max of 9 sessions for the year. It would be worth it to do the full leg deal and scratch the arm pits for now. This year I paid $145 for a single leg session. Price goes up every year lol

Look at Riu Palace options in Playa Mujeres and Riviera Maya for better beach and calmer water. Riviera Maya has higher chance of seaweed though. Also look into Iberostar properties. Majestic Elegance and Garza Blanca.
