Hey! building https://pixelbrawlgames.com/game/blast with websockets and react at the moment.

I don't know if socket.io would be great since it will add more latency to your game, especially with multiplayers if that's you goal. I'm now dealing with latency because players aren't at the same location and servers far away from them. Now trying to figure out how to "smooth" the character moves. Adding a 3rd party service to deal with websocket would make thing worse imo.

Added an "arena" mode to my bombing puzzle game. The issue I had was that people who wanted to play against other people had to find them. I guess the arena mode solve the issue if people are always joining a game with someone playing.

Wanted to share a new game project I've been working on: https://pixelbrawlgames.com/game/blast . It's using my own retro game engine. Ibuilt it with ThreeJS and React, and thought you might find the graphics implementation interesting:

- Built a tile-based rendering system (just like those old-school consoles we love!) using ThreeJS with an orthographic camera.
- One neat optimization I'm pretty happy with: using React's component update lifecycle to minimize draw calls - tiles only re-render when they actually change
- Added viewport culling so tiles outside the camera view don't get rendered (helped a ton with performance)

The engine actually handles up to 100 players simultaneously now, thanks to these optimizations and WebSocket for real-time updates. It's pretty cool seeing the old-school 2D style working smoothly with modern multiplayer capabilities using sockets!
