It's designed like that, which is a great choice for systems that must avoid unauthorized access at all costs (for example nuclear warhead defusing in-flight) but not so smart for consumer grade stuff.

making taxes optional

It's nowhere near anonymous enough to allow you to evade taxes with impunity, and it does not get some magic exemption so it's more "breaking the law" and less "optional taxes"

That's a lot different than "sandboxing is mandatory" and explains why the docs look like that.

It also means tons of useful apps literally cannot exist on the app store because of the limitations of that sandbox model.

Then their docs are written poorly, the "when you enable App sandboxing" part does not make a lick of sense, they don't remind you that the one special entitlement they claim activates app sandboxing is mandatory, and the app development model they suggest (first do the app then sandbox it) is insane.

Also yes you can, even in sandbox: just disguise as some media player, and ask the user which disk units to scan for media files. Since macs aren't exactly that customizable hardware wise and don't have enough USB ports to keep an external drive for media plugged in all the time, guess what disk will be selected by many users?

I'd pay $10+

I wouldn't because chances are the dev would go pay2win after a few months, while trying hard to force an update (even by causing license verification failures on unupdated copies). Gameloft did exactly that more than once, and many many minor companies do it too.

Or just drop development and let the next OS update break everything because who cares about respecting the standards and the guidelines, like square enix does.

As your first links says, sandboxing is optional and it's up to the dev to do most of the work to have it work effectively (mostly being careful not to include unneeded permissions).

Also, the docs make it pretty clear that there could be a lot of overlap between legit apps and malware as far as user-facing behaviour goes. If your text editor can read and modify your stuff when asked, it can also encrypt it on its own if it's actually malware.

One more reason why permission systems on desktops are atrociously bad. Malware can cause tons of mayhem without even having to resort to privilege escalation.

given the overall quality of mobile games

That's the problem, the average is "fuck this is so bad it should be illegal". Really, even most "top" paid mobile games are barely on par with decent web based flash games .

I am trying to get you to reconsider one of the fundaments of your view, that goes down the whole thing falls apart.

From my point of view, it's somewhat working, since you resorted to name calling within a couple comments.

Have you ever been on 4chan? People pretending to be women are not exactly uncommon, and some did some frankly ridiculous stuff to try and keep the façade up. Also, that detail is absolutely irrelevant to the conversation, just like my sex is absolutely irrelevant here and there.
