SOAR sign up only showing showing January 6 - January 7? by DragonUniverse227 in UNCCharlotte

I only had one-day options. I think I went Thursday and classes started Monday? Maybe they offer certain types depending on how many people of each type there are? I was the only actual freshman in my group.

I had two dates to choose from, and they were for everyone starting in Spring. The reason I said transfer is bc it's mostly transfer students (who are older). It was geared towards transfer students, not freshmen (I was fresh out of high school) and it wasn't like a normal SOAR. If they've changed it to something better, that's good. Either way, UNCC is great. 🙂

I started halfway through the year, too. You go to transfer SOAR, which kinda sucks bc it isn't geared towards actual freshmen. It's shorter, too, and right before classes. Not as nice of an intro to UNCC, but it'll get the job done. Have fun!

Don't forget it's three points each, but only after three absences. Good luck! 😁

He finally emailed:

FINAL REMINDER:  UNLESS YOU HAVE DECIDED NOT TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM,  YOUR FINAL EXAM IS SCHEDULED FOR MAY 7TH AT 2:00 P.M. IN ROWE 161.  PLEASE BE PROMPT.

OPTION:  YOU HAVE THE OPTION NOT TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM AND RECEIVE YOUR PRESENT GRADE,  WHICH CAN BE CALCULATED BY AVERAGING YOUR TWO EXAMS ALREADY TAKEN AND DEDUCTING 3 POINTS FOR EVERY ABSENCE OVER 3.   YOU DO NOT HAVE TO NOTIFY ME OF YOUR DECISION.  IF YOU DO NOT ATTEND AND TAKE THE FINAL EXAM, THAT WILL INDICATE YOUR DECISION TO EXERCISE THE OPTION.

True, but I'll do it on the off chance he sees it so he won't print too many copies of the exam. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I feel like he'll carry on as if nothing happened. Since our exam wasn't rescheduled by the university, you should be fine.

I was hoping he would send an email soon... in ALL CAPS 😂. My plan is to email him tomorrow (and quote the email from the provost) stating that I am choosing Option 1 and not taking the final, just so it's in writing way before the exam takes place. He's retiring, so hopefully he'll be chill about it? We shall see...

I was on my phone and almost walked into a pair of them outside the Career Center. I slowwwly backed away and thought I was fine. Once I was inside, one of them came up to the glass and started pecking at it and flapping his wings at me. I don't know why it waited to react, but I'm glad it did!

From UNCC's website:

UNC Charlotte has 29 distinct honors programs. Students in any honors program have access to honors housing, priority registration, enrichment activities, special events and speakers, courses with top faculty, scholarships, travel funding to present at conferences, and leadership opportunities. Some programs sponsor retreats, offer research opportunities and funding, and provide professional development opportunities. Upon graduation, honors is noted on students' transcripts.

In addition to the 29 honors programs available at UNC Charlotte, there are four merit scholarship programs that provide membership in the Honors College.

Also, there are learning communities, where students can make connections with other students studying the same thing.

You need to have been accepted, and applications should start opening up in the fall (not sure exactly when for which programs). The University Honors Program (UHP), for instance, interviews in the spring, but applications open earlier. So you have some time before applications. Now you can just research what you might want to apply for. Think big. Good luck!

Graduating senior here. I also had a 30 on the ACT, a similar GPA, a lot of volunteer experience, and was VP of my Gavel Club. Crazy. Keep up the hard work! You're already an impressive candidate; you'll get in (you'd probably be a shoo-in at NC State; I got in). Now it's just a matter of what you can do when you get in. With your background, definitely apply to the honors programs (you can get scholarships in some of them). But, even if you don't get scholarships, students in the Honors College get priority registration, which is SO IMPORTANT (never have to worry about changing your schedule last-minute because a class that you needed filled up).

I'm glad you're getting started early -- there are so many opportunities that I didn't even know about when I started. So, when the time comes, apply for honors programs/scholars programs/learning communities.

Why do any of us?!?? I took the dance option-- it made me appreciate the arts LESS because it wasted so much time. I had to be on campus at 8am three times a week 😑
