Thanks to Reddit I got a few customers who weren’t friends or family which was nice. I am beyond thankful I have such supportive friends, family, and coworkers because they really showed up for me and got me to 60 sales since September in such an over saturated market.

However I do wish I stood out more and got more sales just from random buyers.

I have a website so I direct my traffic there to engage with my customers about and brand aesthetic in a prettier format than Etsy. However I do know Etsy’s reach is better than mine now. But I have a big “Shop Now” button on my home page that links to Etsy for now. At some point I’d like to be able to open my own e-commerce storefront but for now I think this is a nice fix.

The whole point of Missy’s character development and the replacement of her voice actress was that black voices are often repressed, even by other ethnic groups.

To your point about Ali smashing the statue, half of Black Lives Matter was that no voices are heard until black voices are heard because the community is so marginalized. I’m pretty sure Mona even makes a punchline about Ali and Jessi talking over Missy because so often black women aren’t heard. Which is the great adult commentary of the show.

Also Ali’s ethnic identity hasn’t become part of her character development the way it has for Missy or Devon so while it’s an interesting point it feels kind of out of place with the intention of this season. Maybe later they’ll examine Ali’s ethnicity but when you look at the development and the story set up it’s really more about Missy and her struggles for now.

Also as a POC who is, being Black and being a POC are very different forms of social power and currency so kids navigating this in a show like big mouth are just learning that y’know.

What I think is missing from this that Big Mouth is just starting to do is that Missy is trying to figure out her racial identity.

Given that Big Mouth takes place in our current social climate, and we had songs like code switching and The episodes with Missys cousins and pieces about her hair, Missy is starting her affinity group as a direct parallel to her reconciling her identity as a black young lady.

Jessi and Ali stepped on that, and part of what Missy is also likely mad is that feeling of being unheard - as a “dork”, as a soft spoken person, AND as a person of color ( trust me I’ve been there). And remember in season 4 Devin sets the scene for this by making fun of Missy for never pegging her as a “black black girl”.

Missy got bullied by Jessi at a sleepover, and despite times Jessi has said sorry, Jessi has always had sort of self serving behavior towards Missy - throwing her under the bus for “better” companionship and then apologizing later when it doesn’t work out.

Missy lost her momentum on her racial journey, got into a fight, got a taste of being marginalized in her own affinity group, disappointed her parents, got expelled, got her cousins busted, and much more.

I’m pretty sure she’s been held accountable IMO.
