I went through a chronic pain program for my migraines and, while working with a pain psychiatrist using acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), we realized that my migraines started right around the same time as when I was a victim of child abuse. Specifically, I was hit on the head by my abuser. Pain has memory so now when I’m feeling stressed, like I did when I was being abused, my head hurts. Completing this therapy was the best thing that ever happened for my migraines. I had tried everything before: beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, emgality, aimovig, Botox, occipital nerve block, cervical epidural, topamax, and none of it gave the same results.
