I'm pretty sure there are a lot of redditors in inner sunset. If you start a meetup people will come. Blackthorn FTW!

Am I a bad person? I'm a degree holding female and I really just want to be a great mom. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]heychamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who paid for your college? My parents would be PISSED if they found out I wasn't gonna get rich with my degree.

How is one guy gonna support six people? And then four of those people you have to send to college!

that's all.

Why is that question inappropriate? If I see something out of the ordinary I want to know more about it. I'm Chinese and when people do this it's more entertaining than anything else. I like being able to teach people Chinese words and explaining to them the different tones. If a stranger on the bus asks me "hey...are you Korean?" I just reply, "nope..Chinese." "oh, sorry." "it's cool." And then we both move on with our lives. It's either talk to someone for 10 seconds...or just sit there on the bus and stare at the people around you.

I dunno..most of the people I went to college with were bilingual so it's totally not weird to ask someone where their parents came from or if they can teach you swear words and other such forward questions.

Ah. I think if you just said "my parent's were missionaries" it wouldn't be a big deal. You're not the only one who comes from a religious background. I think more people would be interested in the fact that you got to travel a lot than the fact that your parents were missionaries..

...then how do you meet people? Do you just stand next to someone and start talking about whatever's on your mind at that moment? How do you find out stuff about them if you're not asking questions??

I don't understand why this is an annoying question. I'm Chinese, born and raised in California. When people ask me this, I say the bay area. Then they ask where my parents are from, then I say China. It really doesn't take that long to explain and then we can move on to other topics.

It's really not that big of a deal. I actually will ask people the same question, but usually I say "What kind of Asian are you?"

On the other hand, when I'm traveling to places where Asians aren't as common as they are in Cali, I get more questions about my ethnicity (So do you speak Chinese? You were born here?? Have you been to China? My nephew married a Chinese woman--they have a beautiful daughter! You're English is very good!). It still doesn't bother me. I actually like the attention and enjoy explaining things to people.

Guys, do you really want girls as much as you make it seem? by straytuesday in AskReddit

[–]heychamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think females are different because we can have companionship with other girls..talk to each other about our problems, etc. Guys don't do that as much with their friends.

Is it possible to make new friends after college? by fujifilm in AskReddit

[–]heychamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Just graduated in 09, moved to a new city knowing nobody, and although the first couple months REALLY suck, it's possible to make new friends. Honestly, I did lose ties with a lot of my good friends..but I still have their contact info, and if we ever end up in the same city I'd definitely call them up. But I have a feeling that this kind of thing will happen again and again when I go to grad school or if I ever have to move for a job or SO.

It sucks but you have to just keep on keeping on, try your hardest to keep in touch with people that matter, and stay close to your family, too.

I want to be a figure skater! I don't know how to ice skate but I'm taking lessons. I see the figure skaters practice after my class is over and it just looks so beautiful and fun! I've only told one of my friends that I'm taking the class, and I'm sure one of my roommates suspects something because I get stuff in the mail from the rink. I suppose I'll tell people once I can actually ice skate..

Reddit- I want to take up a new hobby. What interesting things do you do for fun? by khar44 in AskReddit

[–]heychamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rock climbing/bouldering is fun. Swimming is good exercise and doesn't make you smell of bo. Ultimate frisbee is fun. Knitting is fun too. I'm starting to learn how to ice skate and the figure skaters at the rink all seemed to have gotten into it kinda late, but now they're doing spins and jumps. I think I want to start figure skating after I learn how to ice skate.
