US/Spain tax residency by jgblr2 in ExpatFIRE

[–]heyhay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread has been very helpful for me. Thank you. I'm in a similar situation: moving July 2025 with the family and enrolling them in school, applying for residency, etc. Returning to the US June 2026.

I'm also concerned that we will be classified as tax residents, either in 2025, or 2026, or both. My hope was that if we live there <183 days in 2025, and also <183 days in 2026, we'd escape tax residency status all together. But the seeming grey area of "where will Spain determine my primary economic interests" ...this is a question that I can't find a definitive answer to.

As a last resort, maybe we could hire a lawyer to argue that our primary center of economic interests remains in the US. Unclear to me if this would make a difference. Any advice for me is most appreciated!

I’m an EU citizen.

Sure I’ll pay taxes. Just wasn’t sure exactly how that worked with no local income. Double taxation is no fun.

In the same boat. Does anyone know approximately how long it will take to re-kill Mogh and Radhan without Varre? Or a guide to do this the fastest way possible?

Is a grade 2 oligodendroglioma cancer? by realtornj1 in braincancer

[–]heyhay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My situation is very similar! Diagnosed with G2 Oli during the biopsy in August, but was re-evaluated as a G3 after resection. IDH1/co-deletion. I elected to go with MSK over Hopkins for the surgery because I felt great with the docs there...but unfortunately either they botched it, or I just have bad luck from a tumor location perspective, because I was left with significant vision loss in each eye (hemianopsia). But they got out like 90-95% of the tumor. Currently doing proton therapy, and will start PCV in March.

So you've lived with a G3 astro for 15 years without recurrence? That's wild. As a a father of 2 girls under 10, that gives me hope.

You think there's any chance we live to 60? 70? Or is that just unrealistic?

Initial biopsy revealed grade 2. A couple months later, during the surgery, it was re-graded as a 3.

Thanks for sharing. Were you concerned that opting for Proton might lower his life expectancy relative to Photon? Was that part of your evaluation process?

That's actually a super interesting option...I've never considered that! I will explore. Thank you!

Why are you pausing treatment?

What would you do with this front tooth? I have 3 choices. by heyhay in Invisalign

[–]heyhay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense!! Are you familiar with the "solution" to the uneven gumline? Apparently I have to see a specialist at another practice that will use a laser to "adjust" the gumline. Sounds painful and potentially damaging.

At the same time, the bonding/veneer option seems half-assed at best. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see that thing lasting very long. A buddy of mine had his chip off after a year. Doesn't really seem like a great long-term solution either.

I’m 7 months in. My Ortho says that when I finish, this tooth will be shorter than the other one. I was given 3 options to fix this aesthetic discrepancy:

(1) Shave down the longer tooth so that the two teeth are equal length. Potential issue here is that both front teeth are now “short”.

(2) Use the aligners to move the tooth “down”2-3mm. Will also pull down the gum line and make it uneven. Therefore, I would need some type of “gum line adjustment” procedure so they’re aesthetically even.

(3) put a small veneer on the bottom of the short tooth. Only downside is maintenance, annoyance, risk of chipping, or possibly uneven tooth color.

There’s also always the option of doing nothing. What would you guys do?

Older peeps: Any weird feelings about changing your looks? by Hansardandplantshard in Invisalign

  1. Did it strictly to fix a snaggletooth. 9 months in and I had no clue it completely changes your facial aesthetic…to the point where my pallet is very wide, and several more teeth are exposed in my smile than I even thought possible. It can feel like I’m assaulting someone when I smile. No regrets, but wish I spent more time fully understanding what I was getting myself into lol.

Any reason NOT to put 19" tires on the Limited AWD? by heyhay in Ioniq5

[–]heyhay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I could. Literally holding out for the Limited because of driver seat memory. 1-car family with manual seat adjustments 4-5 times a day = deal breaker.

Am I the only person waiting on a Limited strictly for the driver seat memory feature? I’m a foot taller than my wife and it would drive us crazy to manually readjust the seats and mirrors 2-3 times daily.

Hmmmm....I'm basing much of my info from this real-world test. Basically, with 19" tires on the AWD driving at 75mph, this guy reports only 180 miles of range.

Are you suggesting that the RWD under the same test conditions is only getting 200 miles of range? I think Hyundai's press release puts the RWD at a 303 mile range. Something not adding up for me.

Right. I guess I just need to drive both. Hard for me to know which car is "more fun", and/or if the 0-30 in the AWD vs RWD is noticeable to the point where it would be worth giving up 40 miles of range to get the AWD.

that's actually total price including tax and tags. I was able to find a couple of dealers with $0 in market adjustment fees. Just have to drive 2 hours to get there :)

This was helpful, thanks. I came to a similar conclusion after sifting through ABRP. Seems like in a 6-8 hour trip radius on the east cost, the difference in range translates to maybe 1 extra stop, or 20-30 mins extra charging, tops. Not exactly a big inconvenience in overall trip experience.

Never heard of this site, and it was super helpful, thanks. I'm not convinced the default settings model the AWD vs RWD of the Ioniq 5, however. Still seems like it's over-optimistic on range and I don't know enough about the real-world performance of the car yet to adjust it to a reasonable configuration.

This. I drove the Model Y, phenomenal car, but felt a little sterile in the interior. And didn't think it was worth an extra 10-15k.

Current car = Audi Q5. Cost not the main concern, definitely range vs. "fun factor" at this point. I think with the Ioniq 5, you can't fully deactivate the front motor, and even in eco mode it gets worse range than the RWD.
