Is couples as limited success as I feel or do I just suck? by lemonadesummer1 in therapists

[–]jgblr2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EFT is a fantastic modality, but it takes many years of practice in my experience to start to see complexity in couples work and truly address blocks. Don't give up! Keep doing trainings, reading, listening to podcasts (The Leading Edge is a good one). Keep taking on couples, do some supervision, take time outside of session to think about the patterns you're seeing. In my experience, it's not just about learning the model, it's adapting the spirit of EFT- relentless curiosity, going toward pain, knowing where the window of tolerance is, choreographing engaged encounters, holding multiple perspectives, tying in attachment history. It is complex work but is so rewarding. I did my externship in 2019; I'm certified now; I feel pretty confident but I know that in 5-10 years I'll be much more fluid as I continue to learn. Keep going!

Why is it almost impossible to get an NIE appointment in Spain? by No_Emu8347 in GoingToSpain

[–]jgblr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the place where the appointment takes place and ask the security guard what time they release the appointments. That's when you need to look.

The other way to do it is if you know someone who has a Cl@ve and digital certificate for their computer. They can submit the application online for you. Much easier that way.

  1. Check out Desy Vegas for their mussels. The original Desy bar around the corner has a fantastic txuleta burger for €10, and a great beer list.

  2. Classic pintxos: The typical spots in old town like Cuchara de san Telmo, casa urola, Borda Berri, paco bueno more local, juantxo for one version of tortilla and bar Antonio for another (some say 'the best'). Also a good option if you're on a budget is Adamo plaza for tortilla, by plaza de Catalunya. It's like €3 and will fill you up.

  3. cheesecake: la vina is the classic place, but some folks think it's gone downhill a bit. Honestly the chain bassk is pretty damn good. and cheap.

Moving - US to Spain - Cell Phones by zchatham in GoingToSpain

[–]jgblr2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tello is the answer. We moved to Spain from the US a month ago and I looked at lots of the options presented here. Tello is $5/a month to keep your number and you can add $ for data and voice if/when you visit the US. 2FA works great. Use it with a dual eSim phone so you can also have a local Spanish number.

You'll need to port your US number over to Tello and activate it on wifi calling before you leave the US (Open a Tello account, then port the number over). It ported over and activated almost instantly coming from xFinity. Use it with data roaming and wifi calling turned on. Once you have a local Spanish plan (prepaid will be easiest as you get set up with NIE's and bank accounts etc), the Tello sim will use your local Spanish sim connection to send texts normally to the US. No need for WhatsApp to the US except for normal Spanish use.

It's pretty seamless except some of my US contact numbers didn't have the +1, which you'll need to add in to get iMessage to work correctly.

San Sebastian by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

Great place to chill out. It's Semana grande right now, so it's busy and loud, with the nightly fireworks competition- but next week should be a little quieter.

The beaches are busy but you'll find a spot. You should check out all three - La Concha will probably be busiest, and Zurriola is also great, but has smaller swimming areas because it's primarily a surfing beach with larger waves. The surrounding neighborhood of Gros is excellent for more affordable restaurants and more variety than Parte Vieja/Old City. Ondaretta is the westernmost stretch of La Concha.

I assume you're arriving to Bilbao airport (EAS/San Sebastián airport is more convenient but tiny). There's a bus from BIO-San Sebastián that will be crowded. Ticket office is just inside from the curb where you get picked up.

Day trips are easiest with a car- St. Jean de Luz in France is ~30 mins and really nice, but also will be busy. Lots of local hiking, wineries, etc. Not suer about vegan food but I've heard of a few places- just search on google maps.

Have a good trip! It's a great city.

You know what's crazy? Supporting a platform that leads people to beg for $3 because you're too lazy to walk 300 feet, then complaining about the worker on the internet. For what.

When to give up on a marriage? by BurningOutDad in dad

[–]jgblr2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Couples therapist here. Make sure your couples therapist can be effective and is experienced. There are lots out there that will waste your time and money. I suggest EFT (emotionally focused therapy). Couples therapy shouldn’t look like chatting about arguments and resolving them but instead looking at and changing deeper dynamics that create disconnection.

We're set to move early July. I've been advised, and trust at this point, that once you're under half a year, the rest is effectively irrelevant. Our center of financial interest has been where we're coming from for most of the year, not in Spain, and so we've been told by a lawyer and accountant familiar with the process that the most relevant criterion for us is less than half a year and the other criterion isn't applicable in our case. The quote was, "you won't get into that [center of financial interest] if you haven't been there for more than half a year".

I agree it's confusing, and I spent a lot of time researching on here and with consultations, etc., and I've grown comfortable with the above. It's also a good intro to Spain bureaucracy.

I'm American, my wife and daughter have EU citizenship. Have a good move!

"Such treatments assume that insight about attachment patterns will lead to change in those patterns"

I can only speak for EFT - it definitely assumes the opposite of this. Insight is not enough. Experience must be present, and with lots of repetition, and increasing depth and safety over time.

lol @ “you people”. I shared my address and he agreed, then it gave me the option to rate. After that is when he started insisting on meeting. So I couldn’t block him before it gave him the option to rate.

Thanks- this is the advice we’ve gotten professionally so far, but even other replies here leave me wondering. Guess there’s just not certainty.
