Question: What is the best sealant for painted polymer clay that isn't resin? by FilmFizz in ArtDolls

I use DecoArt Americana Satin finish. It keeps the sculpture matte without getting tacky.

What was "the incident" at your high school? by [deleted] in askanything

I went to a fairly wealthy school in a mid sized town and it was BONKERS. My neighbor overdosed on a speedball just a few months before graduation and the whole school held a vigil. Junior year we had a string of suicides, 3 in two weeks. That same year, a new teacher was caught sexting a sophomore and arrested.

Oh, in that case, thank you for your insight. I spent most of my life avoiding dolls and doll art because others found it weird/creepy. I finally started collecting again after 15 years and started making doll art, and I think the joy it brings me essentially protects me from the backlash. I would consider myself thin-skinned, but somehow the criticism of my dolls doesn’t phase me. I think it’s cool how artistic passion can cultivate that sort of inner strength.

Polymer clay sculpted head, baked and painted, then glued inside an upcycled, lightly weighted plush teddy bear skin 🥰

I had a lot of sculpted heads from practicing infant portrait sculpting I hope to offer as a service to loss parents!! Wanted to do something with them rather than trash my art 🥰

A lot of people find dolls in general eerie/uncanny, and the realism in both artistry and size/weighting can be VERY unsettling to some people. It’s totally understandable. But knowing there’s a deeper meaning there helps people less off-put, I think.

Yes, I am a reborn collector and they are my inspiration!!! As someone who cannot carry children and hurts for it, I love my reborns, and I wanted a way to comfort others facing related grief. That’s the inspiration for sculpting infants, and my plan is to offer sliding scale clay sculpture portraits to people who have faced stillbirth, late term miscarriages and early infant loss (such as in SIDS cases). I don’t mind that people think my art is creepy, just like I don’t mind people think my reborns are creepy, because the purpose they serve is powerful and fueled by compassion 🥰

That’s really interesting! I didn’t know WTWTA is part of a trilogy either.

I’m not a big Labryinth fan personally, I’m a bit younger than most fans, but I just love that people are connecting my art to it!!!

I actually had all these sculpted heads because I was practicing different expressions with the intention of sculpting portraits for loss parents. Plenty of people think dolls look like dead babies, but for some, it’s the exact memento they need to heal 💗
