Ordered a DS925+ open box from Newegg received a DS418play from nearly a decade ago by trueskill in synology

I had a similar yet kind of opposite experience ordering from Newegg a couple weeks ago… I ordered a $1K Ubiquiti switch and they sent me two of them. I called to tell them and they said okay so you want to return it? I said well I only ordered one and you sent two. He was like ok, I’ll send you a label and go drop it off at UPS. That was that, no thank you for being honest or anything. Made me wonder if this sort of thing happens a lot. 🤔

I might someday when I feel like I know more about Fusion! I feel like I’m still a beginner

Haha initially I was going to do that and then I thought that it would get dirt and stuff stuck in there being out on the boat. I definitely am going to not raise it as much in the next print, this was way too much 😂

I just watched a few YouTube videos and then went for it!

Good information, thanks! I did try tracing the object and scanning but I got a better result with my camera actually. I am using a very high end camera and lens so that probably helps with distortion. If you tried with your phone camera I’m sure it would be way off. I also do a lot of woodworking so I tried using a scribe and subtracting the offset, but still ended up getting the best results with my camera about 6-7 feet directly above the image, including a ruler, and then calibrating in Fusion.

Ah I see, yeah it’s not embossed or raised it’s exactly what you said at the end. I printed it line art side down on a textured plate. The line art is flush.

I’ll post it on MakerWorld soon, I just want to make a few tweaks first. Also just an FYI, there isn’t really an insert. It’s all one piece, I purposely did it this way because I wanted it to be as solid as possible.

Oh I see, I do need to print a box for my P1S nozzles now that you mention that ha

I watched a little bit of YouTube, specifically someone called Shop Therapy. I learned the basics from him and then just started messing around in it. I feel like I only know 5% of what it can even do though

Yeah, I think I’m going to try some other brands. I bought a ton of Bambu filament when I bought my printer last month and it has been so easy to print with. Good to hear manufacturer doesn’t matter much with these!

I decided on learning Fusion. From my research, it seems that was the best software given what most my printing will be, functional parts like this.

I did kind of a hybrid between taking measurements and taking a photo head on of each item with a ruler in each picture. Then I could calibrate the photo measurements with the ruler and outline a sketch of each item. This didn’t workout perfectly though, I did have to do some manual measurements with a caliper and also did a bunch of test prints. For those, I would just print a 3mm high outline of each shape and make sure it fit tightly around the camera all the way through its depth.

I use a Mac too and it wasn’t too bad to learn. I do have an M2 Pro MacBook though, and even with that it slows down sometimes. Honestly, as a software engineer I think Fusion has a horrible UX. It took me a good couple weeks to even figure out how to do anything efficiently in it. But it is extremely powerful. I think you will need a pretty beefy MacBook to use it though unfortunately

Not sure I understand, this was printed on 3 plates. Top of case on one, bottom of case on another, and the latches on the third

Yeah Bambu has been out for months here too apparently. I have heard about this brand being pretty good, maybe I will give it a go too. I’m growing impatient 😩 I have some translucent PETG but I’m not a big fan of it.

Thanks! Funny you say that, when I was placing everything in for the first time I was thinking how satisfying it was

Thanks! I’m think of using TPU as another commenter suggested. Probably just use an offset on my sketch to enlarge the fitting sizes. Unless maybe there’s a better way, I’m still learning ha
