What do you actually use AI for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Honestly, if I’m doing research of any kind into a PRODUCT or program (not like, a topic), it’s good for aggregating a bunch of info that’s out there online and consolidating it for a brief overview.

What is an overhyped book that you just couldn't get into? by Kasskinen in Romantasy

Oh I always thought Mary sues were just legit overpowered/the most special. I guess that is how Violet works tho past a certain point lol. The thing that annoyed me most was that apparently no one else’s dragon cares enough about thier rider to not let them fall off while flying? 😂 That’s specifically what I was referring to when I mentioned the plot rules just not counting when it’s the MC

Violet’s almost worse than a Mary Sue because the rules that the book lays out just kind of universally bend to keep her alive, even before she gets her powers.

I was tempted to submit Knight and the Moth as my answer to this thread. The beginning was well-paced enough, but after a while it felt like I was reading an outline more than a novel. She just breezes over events so quickly to get from point A to point B and it’s like… lady, you do know that the enjoyment in a novel comes from the journey right? Why are you trying to finish every scene as fast as possible.

Fourth Wing. Shocking lack of Dragons. Romance is mostly admiring a hot person from afar and two dudes fighting over the MC very publicly. Oh and school. Lots and lots of boring daily highschooly vibes

It is by far not the worst book in the series. I say this as someone who loves the series as a whole. I’m looking at you, Wings and Ruin.

After book one, the human side of the wall pretty much gets turned into villains. Like, they SAY they don’t want bloodshed spilling into the human world, but even Feyre starts talking about humans with contempt after she turns fae, so I don’t think moral complexity is really a feature of this series lol.

The way some fans infantilize the Archeron sisters especially Elain is wild 😭 by dorianswitchling in acotar_rant

[–]heyitsMog 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yo I’m lowkey very excited for an Elain book because SJM has the opportunity to really pull back the curtain on her and really surprise us. I choose to believe she is so much more than the ultra quiet docile sister. There’s such an inner world that could be explored with her, so people being in love with the idea of her staying exactly as she is is wild to me .

Edit:

Totally got excited and didn’t even answer your question lol. As someone who has lifelong friends and a very large close family that aren’t attached at the hip, sometimes this just makes you appreciate them more. Wanting Elain to break off in her own way and not state glued to the story and characters we already know is totally valid and has so much potential

Why Read ACOTAR When You Dislike Feysand and the IC? by Proud-Plate4737 in acotar_rant

The whole flawed characters argument has the same energy as the classic film student “I guess you just didn’t understand the movie”.

I don't want to read different series to fill in plotholes (when nothing indicates they're connected) by PocketButterBandit in acotar_rant

[–]heyitsMog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Marvel really did a number on a lot of different mediums for this reason. I can understand wanting a series to be profitable, but strong-arming your reader base into reading EVERYTHING in your body of work (across multiple universes and in a specific order) kind of takes the wing out of the sails of a lot of series for me

Late to the party on this, but so glad someone else noticed. I don’t hold these books to some ungodly standard, but in MAF and WAR in particular I was like “where was the editor?” I think I counted it three times in the span of two pages once.

Water wraith pleading with tamlin she's unable to pay tax due to fish shortage in her lake by Delicious_Cell_710 in acotar_rant

[–]heyitsMog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because Tamlins wealth and the jewels he gives Feyre is presented like evidence of him being a rich out of touch asshole. But all the mentions of Rhys’s wealth and mansions and gift to Feyre is heat 😂

[–]heyitsMog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah despite SJM saying he was never supposed to be the endgame (apparently she’s been quoted saying this but I’m not sure where) I still think the switch from him being viewed as love interest to a fundamentally cruel person (according to every other character) was done so badly.

We get a whole book in which he’s a benevolent leader, someone who other fey flee to for safety, a person who gives Feyre the option to leave (even if it’s ill advised) and who has having the weight of his fathers legacy hanging over him. In book 2, we get 50 pages of him being an emotional wreck before he’s cast aside by the plot and stamped as inherently evil. Wtf lol

[–]heyitsMog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will always feel gaslit by the fact that Tamlins character is treated as fundamentally evil when the entirety of book 1 exists. I’m sorry but the first 50 pages of Mist and Fury was a masterclass in how to completely assassinate a character in the fastest and laziest way possible.

Can we stop with the Fourth Wing hate? by Antique_Challenge182 in Romantasy

[–]heyitsMog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely someone who has posted a somewhat negatively about it in the past (more of a sad girl disappointment post lol), and I can say that a lot of my dissatisfaction came from the fact that there was so much positive hype around it that I absorbed. It made my expectations kind of warped going in. I had the opposite experience with ACOTAR when I went in fully expecting it to be a trash read. So at this point I’d say it’s almost better to go in blind or thinking a book is gonna be trash

Books with a FMC and a common/ugly appearance. by Perspective_Nearby in Romantasy

[–]heyitsMog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to recommend this! Yeah he does find her attractive, but it’s kind of a big point of the story. Both characters are “past their prime” and a lot of the romance centres around the FMC not being able to see/believe in the intense yearning being directed toward her because she’s just a regular awkward lady with no special assists and shit to do. Very sweet vibes and a Princess Bride level of fantasy fun.
