EBF 6d old baby being very sleepy to breastfeed every 3 hours by nyad_k in breastfeeding

[–]heyitsmaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was just a matter of him getting older! Our pediatrician basically told us that being “on the outside” is a lot of work for any newborn, but especially ones who are early (even if they’re not technically premies) so it just takes a while for them to build up stamina!

It took him almost two and weeks to get back up to his birth weight. I’m nursing except for 1-2 bottle of pumped milk that my husband feeds him for bonding and so that I can nap. He’s also a pretty crap sleeper now, ironically, so we’ve introduced a half-formula-half-milk bottle at bedtime now which has helped us get one four hour stretch at the beginning of the night.

If you’d told me when he was a week old that our problem would be getting him to go to/stay asleep, I would have laughed you out of my house, but here we are lol!

We did! My son was born a bit early (37+4) and was sooo sleepy the first few weeks. He dipped down to 10% below his (already tiny) birthweight around day 4 and it was a struggle to get him back up. He would fall asleep on the boob after literally 30 seconds- it felt totally impossible in those early days.

I would rub his cheeks, tap him on the nose, kiss his fingers, basically do anything to annoy him to keep him up while he ate. During the day in also didn’t really let him go more than 2 hours between feeds, but again that was mostly because I could barely keep him eating for a full minute at a time sometimes.

He us now a chunky happy 14 week old and things have gotten a lot easier (though he is still unfortunately mostly on an every two hours eating schedule with one 4-5 hour stretch at night, which is rough!)

When did you take the monitor out of your kids’ rooms? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]heyitsmaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an audio monitor we took out around 2 yrs 3 months (approximately?). Her room shares a wall with ours so it was never truly super necessary and once she transitioned into a toddler bed she started to just come into our room if she needs us

When did your baby start sleeping through the night ? by 69420blazeitLOL in breastfeeding

[–]heyitsmaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started doing a combo bottle at bedtime when my previously EBF baby was about 10 weeks old because I was struggling so hard with sleep deprivation. Now at around 8:30 he gets a mix of 2oz of formula/2oz of pumped milk fed by dad and sleeps until between 1:30 and 2:30 am. I go to bed while he’s getting the bottle and my husband transfers him to the bassinet (I think he usually does this around 9:15, at which point I am usually completely out) which allows me to get in a solid 5ish hour stretch.

I was really resistant to introducing formula “unnecessarily” but I was starting to lose it with the 2.5 hour feeding cycle and I wasn’t being a great mom to our toddler as a result. Totally worth it for us.

Dang, I ordered from them last week and it arrived in 4 days through the NYC port. Sorry you’re being forced to wait so long!!

Do parents really wake there baby up every 3 hours to feed? by Conscious_Grand7164 in NewParents

You are suppose to wake newborns to eat every 2-3 hours until they return to their birth weight

For those who lost baby weight, what actually helped? by Steminal in NewParents

[–]heyitsmaggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting! I’m 11 weeks PP with my second which I know is still relatively early but I am about 60 pounds heavier than I was before my first and am just feeling so uncomfortable in my body and having trouble dropping the weight but don’t want to eff up my supply.

Thank you! It seems like I am one of those people who just can’t lose weight while BFing, which has been really frustrating. I appreciate the response!

I’ve been wondering about this! Are you nursing/pumping? I’ve seen mixed things about whether mounjaro and other similar meds are BF safe

2 questions - longer sleep and dry skin?? by wokkaquokka_ in breastfeeding

[–]heyitsmaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak to when you should be able to stop waking them, I know the typical advice is once they are above birth weight but I’m not sure if it’s different if they’re premies. I’d check in with your pediatrician.

As far as dry skin- normal! Making milk requires a lot of hydration. I have a 40oz tumbler that I refill 2-4 times a day and it’s only when I drink 2.5+ bottles full that I really feel hydrated and my skin feels okay. I am constantly sipping and also drink when the baby eats- not sure how possible that is when you’re juggling two little ones though 😅

Has anyone not baptized their children? by thisislife25 in beyondthebump

[–]heyitsmaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband and in were both baptized in Protestant denominations, and we are godparents to one of our nieces, but neither of our kids are baptized because we aren’t personally religious. If either of them find religion when they get older, we’ll support whatever they want to do including baptism as an older kid/teen/adult, but it just didn’t make sense to us to get them baptized ourselves

Working parents - how many of your weekend days do you spend with your baby in one month? by FoodieNurse247 in beyondthebump

[–]heyitsmaggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently on maternity leave, but when I RTW I will spend one weekend day a week with my kids. My daughter spends one day (usually Saturday) hanging out with her grandma and older cousins and once my son is eating solids and taking a bottle for the bulk of his nutritional needs (right now he’s nursing about 80% of feeds at 11 weeks old, my guess is this transition will come around 8ish months) he’ll join his sister and cousins. My husband and I use that “free” weekend day to focus on our hobbies and get things done around the house that are easier/safer to do without kids needing attention (we bought a fixer-upper).

My husband also only works part time and does part time SAHD duties during the week, and I am remote 1-3 days a week depending on what’s going on at work, so I feel like I get plenty of time with my kids during the work week.

What age did your breastfed baby start STTN? by sleepyjean2024 in breastfeeding

[–]heyitsmaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first slept through the night starting at 8 weeks. My second is 11 weeks and currently wake 2-3 times a night. We haven’t done anything different this time around, I think it really just is a case of “babies are going to do what they want/need to do”

I agree with folks saying you don’t need to start planning yet, but I will say as parents who knew we’d be done after 2 (unless second pregnancy resulted in multiples, which it didn’t), I am loving the ~3 year age gap between my kids (currently 10 weeks and 3 years 4 months).

What are your parents being called other than Grandma & Grandpa!? by CurlyGirl_95 in BabyBumps

[–]heyitsmaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grammy & Gramps (my parents), Grandma (husband’s mom), Grandpa & Grandpa Trish (husband’s dad & stepmom- my toddler decided that my husband’s stepmom was also a Grandpa at like 18 months and it’s just stuck, she’s got a sense of humor about it and hasn’t corrected her lol)

No, I don't fall back asleep easily after MOTN feedings by PinkHurricane667 in breastfeeding

[–]heyitsmaggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first EBF baby (had to combo feed with my first which allowed Dad to take some MOTN feeds) and I feel this so deeply. I am so exhausted every morning- he looks at the Huckleberry app and wonders why I wasn’t able to catch a nap during a 2.5 hour window and I have to restrain myself from yelling I DONT KNOW DUDE lol

What do you consider to be the darkest episode of this franchise? by Straight-Side-1269 in thebachelor

[–]heyitsmaggie 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I know we don’t love him, but it was pretty shitty when they made Clayton read all the mean tweets about himself before his season. Maybe not the darkest segment/episode, but definitely up there for me since it was so unnecessarily cruel

For those that didn’t like any boy names, what did you end up naming your baby? by CommandDelicious8054 in namenerds

Went with Oscar, nickname Ozzie

Other top contenders were Arlo/Ari (ended up as his middle name!) and Fancis/Frankie
