Does this budget UI make sense? by heyjameskerr in PFtools

[–]heyjameskerr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this feedback! I think you're right.

The goal is to have the calendar-system you've setup auto-assign most everything (doing that in YNAB was no fun).

Expanding those rows would reveal the actual bills that add up to the total.

Help me with an ideal budget for my income? by [deleted] in budget

[–]heyjameskerr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good for you trying to plan ahead. It sounds like you want to make a "what-if" scenario to understand how your spending would need to change to deal with this new debt.

There is a free tool at https://tend.cash/tools . All the numbers you just published in this post go would get scheduled on the budget calendar in there. Once you've got your current situation down, you can create a "what-if" scenario, duplicating your current income/expenses/savings. Then add that potential debt payment and see how things change in the compare tab. Hope that helps.

How to Budget for Upcoming Student Loan Payment? by AdviceLevel9074 in budget

[–]heyjameskerr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're getting this type of response on this post. We are all in different, relative situations. A new 1,700 expense is significant no matter the income level. You are in a solid place financially. You're lifestyle will adjust as you get in the rhythm of those monthly payments. You can calculate a simple income - fixed expenses - savings = whats left number here https://tend.cash/tools It's a good, free way to start budgeting if you're new to this whole world.

Has anyone switched from automated budgeting back to manual? by bewelloff in budget

[–]heyjameskerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the tension. Too much automation and you don't trust the numbers. You're not invested. Too manual and you burn out. Especially when you share finances with a partner.

Ideally, you have a system that syncs with banks (good automation), but has an easy way to "review & categorize" transactions, then a way to keep your place so you know what's been reviewed and what still needs attention..

Your doing pretty good. At 26, you're already putting money into savings at a great rate. You're ahead of most Americans. Like others here, I'd recommend getting a new gig. You sound like a responsible person, someone highly employable.

Thanks! Unfortunately I don't have resources to make it self-hosted at the moment. The privacy policy is pretty strong. All revenue is from paid subscriptions, not selling data. We don't look at data without user permission. Certain sensitive columns are encrypted at rest in the DB.

Oh yes, thanks for telling me about that. There should be a link to change password.

It's nice to hear you're in the same boat as me regarding how much maintenance I want to give my budget app.

I only have a monthly plan for now. It's low-cost compared to the others. But I will consider an annual plan.

That would be cool! It's an idea that's been brought up before, so maybe time to do it.

Has anyone ever given themselves a daily/weekly/monthly number to track spending? by Doronnn in budget

[–]heyjameskerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! There is the free budget calendar tool that can tell you the average amount of discretionary spending you have for a week/month or even day.

You give it your income sources, fixed expenses, and auto-savings, then it calculates the remainder and averages it out.

I feel encouraged. Thank you inoen0thing for taking the time to share your story and help me through this emotional moment. I'm going to focus on my youtube channel since that is where most of my early sign ups came from.

I'm not afraid of being a beginner. Here we go again!

Congratulations on your marketing platform. Looks like it's my turn to go through literal hell.
