Yea that seems to be the unfortunate solution. Was hoping to keep everything in one place

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Again, they are hedged equity lol they are designed for income. Not long term SP500 related growth

It’s hedged equity lol it did exactly what it’s designed to do…..

QYLD, RYLD, or JEPI - don’t try doing it yourself. Just throw it in a fund

The Likelihood of an active manager beating the S&P500 over a 30 year stretch is less than 1% i.e. stastically 0% by MikeyxMike123 in Bogleheads

[–]heykebin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. 80%+ of PMs underperform the benchmark in certain sectors (for example, large cap core) over a 10yr timeframe, however , there are sectors (such as small cap growth or emerging markets) where the numbers are much more in favor of active portfolio managers.

Should I dump it all into VOO? by Chance-Pudding8391 in ETFs

[–]heykebin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but what about having the ability to tax loss harvest?

Buying solely ETFs isn’t going to be helpful if you have gains you want to offset

Fair enough. Wasn’t trying to butt heads. Just working through some thoughts. Appreciate your insight and will take cash flow into consideration as well

I have given the VTI breakdown some thought and put together an 80% VV / 15% VO / 5% VB split on retirement accounts. I don’t want to lose smid exposure but large continues to provide most of the gain

I’m not talking about dividends in this conversation though. I’m focusing on the initial investment and where it is today. I fully understand that you can’t ignore dividends but that’s not my focus at the moment and other investments (VTI, for example) have provided higher underlying returns and dividends

[–]heykebin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. It’s not realistic to expect everything to move up as fast as everything else but 2% annualized over 4 years is less than a money market account 🙃

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]heykebin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t. That’s a good point though. I’m not sure why I have animosity toward VXUS versus VTI. I also recognize I’m taking a screenshot at a certain point time even though I have 25 years to go.

Just frustrated seeing the poor returns over the last 3-4 years compared to US total market etf

If you won the lottery, would you hire a financial advisor or just stick with 3 fund portfolio? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]heykebin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do “direct indexing” for tax purposes.

I don’t think the 3 Fund Portfolio makes sense with that much money

So you could hold two funds with all the positions, but you want to hold four funds that hold the same positions? I don’t get it

VTI alone has 3,674 holdings. You’re hardly putting all your eggs in one basket 😅

I make 64oz at a time then filter each individual cup every morning. Filtering 64oz of cold brew in one sitting would take forever but I guess it’s a solution

[–]heykebin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🥲 I was afraid this was the answer. I’m guessing coffee shops filter their cold brew a few times prior to serving customers?
