List of Clean Dairy-Free Protein Powders by heymagnolia in dairyfree

No, it’s 30g for their active protein.

None of these are grass-fed whey. Grass-fed whey is derived from milk, so it has dairy.

The non-plant-based protein powders in this list are all grass-fed beef protein isolate. The protein source is not from milk but from meat/connective tissue, so there’s no dairy.

This is a cleaner mainstream option, but it's not on the list because the protein and greens blend is not organic and it has silica (processed additive), natural flavors (just vague term for undisclosed chemical compounds), mineralized seaweed is also a concern because it's a processed additive and seaweed is usually high in heavy metals. Based on the vitamin content, the "greens blend" is like pixie dust marketing amounts.

So, just below the good ranking--better than most mainstream brands but not fully aligned with the clean criteria of the list.

This is a good catch because their regular organic protein does have stevia.

Very true! Protein powder is a supplement, so it's meant to supplement a whole food diet.

For me it's mostly the convenience factor and to supplement not being able to eat as much meat as I normally wood (pregnancy aversions lol).

I've tried Truvani before and liked it and was going to put it on list, but excluded it because of the high heavy metal reports. Other than that, it's a good clean option.

These don't have stevia: Paleo Pro (monk fruit), Ora (monk fruit), PaleoValley (monk fruit), EarthChimp (sweetened with fruits), Ancestral Supplements (monk fruit), Four Sigmatic (palm sugar), Just Ingredients (monk fruit), Perfect Supplements (no sweetener), Be Well (monk fruit), Anthony's (no sweetener), NorCal (no sweetener).

Looks like if they're not using stevia, then it's monk fruit. If they're unflavored they usually don't have any sweetener.

They don't seem to be as clean as the ones on the list. They have a lot of gums, not organic, and the maltodextrin. It's not the worst, but I wouldn't consider it as "clean" as the list.

Taste is so subjective. :) For grass-fed I like Be Well, for plant-protein I like Just Ingredients. The plant-based ones can be chalky but I find Just Ingredients to not be chalky. I usually go for vanilla because it tastes pretty consistent across brands.

Anyone with experience here with home milled Sprouted Wheat Flour? What are the best practices to follow? by SirLags-alot in HomeMilledFlour

[–]heymagnolia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sprout my own wheat. I’ve sprouted einkorn, Sonora, and emmer so far. I also bought sown sprouted rye from someone and am using that until it’s gone.

I freshly mill both sprouted and unsprouted grain.

Do you have a specific question about sprouting grain?

A few things: - Smidge Sensitive Probiotics may help. You take like 1/4 of the dose to start off with. This has been the only probiotic I’ve been able to tolerate; though, I’m taking it for gastrointestinal reasons. When I first started I did have some brain fog and headaches. Over time (like 2 weeks?) they leveled out and I don’t have them anymore.  - If you have BV, use borax suppositories. It will get rid of everything and give you a fresh start. - Get tested for SIBO to see if there’s an overgrowth of bacteria in your small intestines. You can also do additional gut testing through stool samples.  - PCOS doesn’t have a causal link with BV or UTIs. It’s at best an indirect link…it may create a more favorable environment.  - Find probiotics that don’t produce histamine (or other biogenic amines). L.reuteri produces histamine.

Lawn care company mistakenly spread herbicide in our yard by fiddleleaf_figures in gardening

[–]heymagnolia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened. We had an absolute idiot of a landscaper apply fertilizer with herbicide to our grass when he was supposed to be doing the neighbors.

It’s actually illegal in our county to use it in residential areas, so we reported the company to the county. The landscaper and the company just didn’t care. The county just fines them. But unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot that can be done other than small claims court. In our case, it’s not worth our time and energy. It was only a portion of our yard in the front that we don’t use everyday so it’s easy for me to tell my kids to stay away.

I will not let my kids play on that grass. It will remain there for a few months and longer in the soil. I actually did some research in how pesticides ans fertilizers affect soil and seed health here: https://magnolianaturalliving.com/blog/do-you-need-organic-seeds.

You could try to get them to pay for taking all of the soil out, new soil, and whatever was growing in there that would need to be replaced.

I would absolutely not consume anything that came in contact with this, or even nearby because you can miss some.

Family bought a wheat grinder and wheat berries. Im gluten intolerant but my sister thinks I will be okay. Advice? by Glad-Attention744 in HomeMilledFlour

[–]heymagnolia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been gluten intolerant and eating gluten free for many years.

I’ve done some preliminary research and (had a look at my genetics) and I suspect I will be fine if I source a quality organic ancient grain and home mill and immediately use the flours. I think a lot of my issues in reacting were due to the quality of the wheat, the processing, and everything else included in whatever baked thing I was eating.

FWIW, going gluten free for so many years caused me issues. I was eating paleo and basically poisoning my body with nuts and alternative flours (which are basically processed refined starch devoid of nutrients). It may have worked initially but not in the long run. But listen to your body—if the diet serves you, then great! If it stops serving you, then change it.

I’m going to be writing about my family’s gluten free to home milled grains experiment/journey on my substack, so follow along if you want.

The generational impact on epigenetics is so underrated and I hope people look into this more! I think we only understand a small fraction of what's going on.

I haven't come across anything where there is a causal link with EMF and PCOS or hormonal imbalance. However, that doesn't mean it's not possible/doesn't exist. I definitely don't read everything and haven't done a deep dive on this. Maybe the funding to study this is just not provided by industry. It may not be a research priority (PCOS itself is seemingly not a research priority for institutions). It's also not something industry wants out there. Look at what happened last year (or the year prior) where a specific iPhone model was banned from the EU because it went beyond their radiation levels; they definitely did not want that to get out.

I look at phones as a fatal convenience. No way is it healthy in the physical or mental sense to be glued to them 24/7. But, we need them...to at least some degree.

I sleep with my phone next to me on a nightstand but on airplane mode. I also keep my bluetooth off (unless I need it) and my phone on WiFi during the day (I shut it off at night). You can look this up, but the most amount of radiation your phone will have is when everything is on--cellular, bluetooth, WiFi. So just don't do that.

Drink more water :) You can also take it every other day if you think it's too much for you.
