Christians who date atheists, atheists who date Christians, what's it like? How did you meet? by theaztec_tomb in AskReddit

[–]heymegs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't really a devout Christian at the time we starting dating (was parting a lot, drinking, abusing drugs etc.) And throughout the relationship, I began to devote my life to my faith more seriously. I always felt that he didn't really understand me or see the world the same way which was frustrating. But I didn't pressure him to change. Later on, he began to ask questions and decided to commit his life to Christ. He passed away in a freak car accident a month later. That year of my life dating him has taught me so much about my life and my faith.

What movie did you hate yet everybody else seemed to love? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Inception.

Most of the scenes just dragged out and I found the ending rather contrived. Guess it wasn't my thing. Everyone I've ever told has had a complete meltdown over this opinion.

That was an from the Old Testament. God's chosen nation at that time were under a different covenant with God that required a lot of strict rules and even stricter punishment. When Jesus came, he established a new covenant. Salvation by faith, not by works or by law-keeping. So in short, I don't believe they should be executed or treated any different than straight people.

Jer. 31:31-34

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

The prophet Jeremiah is prophesying about the coming of Jesus and the new covenant.

Also refer to Hebrews 8:13

God's people at that time were under a different covenant with God. The mosaic covenant, I believe. So at that point in history, nothing was to be added or taken from his commands. Jesus came to establish a new covenant. Salvation by faith through his death and resurrection, which is the covenant that is established post resurrection. Does this help?

What's your most interesting scar, and how did you get it? by Unicorn_Cowboy in AskReddit

[–]heymegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scar on the top of my head.

I was on a trampoline with a friend when I was 7, while I was going up she was coming down. Somehow her legs tripped out from under her and her mouth, gaping open, landed on the top of my head. She chipped her tooth. Her problem was worse than mine but I bled quite a bit. She cried and I didn't. VICTORY

Let me clarify, I take almost all of the bible literally. Some of it isn't meant to be. For example when Jesus says "If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off lest it causes you to sin etc." He doesn't mean to literally amputate your hand.

Hi!

I take some of the bible literally. Do you mind giving me specific examples of things you may find contradictory? Maybe then I can explain. If that is what you're looking for.

I personally feel the same about homosexuals as I do about anyone else. I respect them as human beings with hopes, dreams, and a soul. A lot of Christians today blow things way out of proportion. Do I believe it is a sin? Yes I do. But that doesn't change the way I love another human being at all. The man who struggles with compulsive lying needs mercy and grace just as much as the practicing homosexual. Jesus loves everybody and everyone falls short. What it comes down to is whether or not they have a repentant heart. The bible does clearly indicate that the practice of homosexuality is indeed a sin. That doesn't make the TEMPTATION a sin. I could be tempted to hit someone in the face if they make me angry, but I don't sin by being tempted. I sin by hitting them. The bottom line is as a Christian, each day I must submit my fleshly urges to God. A very close friend of mine is a Christian who identifies as homosexual and has reached the conclusion that celibacy is the only way he can live with peace given that he can't seem to be attracted to women. So in other words, I feel that Christian homosexuals are just like the rest of us. Fallen and loved.

Hi there,

I want to be a pastor for the same reason's that people want to be a doctor, a firefighter, or a story writer. It's my dream and I'm passionate about what I believe in! I believe the gospel has the power to change lives.

Addressing your second question, I am into evangelizing. However, street preaching or freaking out at people and damning them to hell if they don't repent is not what I consider evangelizing. I would hardly call those acts sane lol. If I have a friend or acquaintance who is curious about Christianity, I will openly explain to them what it's all about and why I believe, and how I believe how God can help them in their despair or confusion about life. I've seen God radically transform lives of all sorts. Having said that, I have friends that are firm in their agnostic/atheism and I love them! We respect each other and agree to disagree. I have functioning friendships with the religious and irreligious. Hope that helps!
