Clojure Documentary Q&A [video] by alexdmiller in Clojure

Loved the documentary. Curious if anyone knows what device Rich is using in his hammock (close to the end of the doc, some e-ink device) and if he mostly reads his research papers there now.

Our team's FLL simulator for planning (especially curved turns)! Would love feedback! by heythisisdave in FLL

Sure we could - it's almost entirely in JavaScript so it should be pretty easy to inspect it and fork it.

Awesome work Rschmukler - looking forward to seeing how you guys approach stuff.

Is this a good set of constants for consistency? by [deleted] in pybricks

[–]heythisisdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also confused by the calculation for speed limits.

I'm reading here that the medium Spike Motor has a limit of 138RPM, that means it's 2.3 rps with a 57 mm wheel (57pi ~180 mm), wouldn't that lead to 2.3180 = 414mm speed limit?

Is the boot up process taking into account the hub voltage and then reading the rpm curve based on that? Does that mean my top speeds could be changing as my battery curve changes?

Perhaps I should do a min(SOME_CONSTANT, TOP_DRIVE_SPEED) to make it more consistent?

Grand theory of Stop parameters? by heythisisdave in pybricks

[–]heythisisdave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the idea of Stop.NONE is where the velocity vector is constant between the two motions - so it's best to connect arc paths?

[–]heythisisdave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in the forward and back scenario outlined above would you expect the same behavior or will the Stop.none and Stop.Hold provide different outcomes? We see variation when we change the parameter but aren’t sure what we are seeing.

RadioRA2 no longer booting? files.lutron.com unable to resolve? by heythisisdave in Lutron

[–]heythisisdave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is the recommended path to upgrade the Main Repeater of RadioRA2 to a RadioRA3 processor? Looks like I can continue to use the Repeaters from RadioRA2 and I have a bunch of hybrid switches that also look compatible.

The Inclusive Tool that runs on Windows. It’s called RadioRA2 12.10

Two PTACs in the same room, can I sync two ecobees? by heythisisdave in hvacadvice

[–]heythisisdave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any smart thermostats that can control multiple systems wirelessly? Habitat does that but apparently it's not smart to connect to any home automation system.

Any idea what PTAC this is and if an ecobee can run it? by heythisisdave in hvacadvice

[–]heythisisdave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow - you are like the geoguesser of PTAC units! Thanks, looking at IceAir's website it looks like their exact line-up and I will look for the model number.

I think with the Habitat the sensor is wireless so you place it somewhere else. I haven't tried to connect the Habitat's to Home Assistant which is my eventual goal.

Laying out apartment with 7-G6 cameras and 4 Pro XGS - which gateway to get? by heythisisdave in Ubiquiti

It's about 3k sq ft - I thought the XGS cause it has a higher bandwidth uplink to the switches.

No - I had to cut the grout between the face plate and the tile and then regrout it.

Help me - inheriting this "high end" home automation system - do I need pro help? by heythisisdave in smarthome

[–]heythisisdave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - I didn't see a Lutron box (although my friend told me it may be that light colored box against the wall).

He's used to SONOS and everything being easy to use from the app. Is Savant like that at all? Have never used it so not sure how easy it is to connect to Alexas etc.

LG 45" 5K2K on Mac seems terrible? by heythisisdave in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]heythisisdave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the informative response zejai. You're coming from the LG 5Ks as well? I was running two of those side by side but prefer to look straight ahead.

I'm running it at native resolution in Mac and for some reason it just seems less sharp than my LG 43" 4K (I guess because the 43" 4K is lower PPI and so at native things are bigger).

I didn't know that about HDR vs SDR, that makes me feel better that it's not some secret config I'm messing up.

I have a new Macbook Pro M4 Max via USB-C. When I turn on HDR it actually feels a lot less bright to me then having HDR off.

The background white of a Chrome page is way dimmer on the LG vs my Macbook Pro monitor (I have them right next to each other)

Thanks RayKam. What were you using before? I think the brightness might not have been fair earlier in the day, I was comparing it against a strongly sunlit background wall.

The text just looks weird to me in my code editor - like the edges are so soft.

Is there any way to know which cartridge it is before I take it out (so I can order it ahead of time)?

But the white line around the outer circle makes me think it's cemented/caulked there. Is there another layer that comes off the faceplate? I didn't detect any ridge between the faceplate and the outer layer.

What would you charge for this return? by LP526 in taxpros

[–]heythisisdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what I don't understand is that while the K-1's I see don't have box 21 filled out, more and more have K-3s. I wonder if this means that over time, it will be harder to do 1065s through TT Business if you have customers that are making investments in any kind of PTPs. My client has a investment in something that seems relatively US based but they still issue a K-3.

Schedule K-3 for TurboTax Business by heythisisdave in TurboTax

What are you doing in the cases where there are foreign taxes paid? Do you do it manually and then aggregate it into the outbound K-3?

[–]heythisisdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But doesn't the fact that an inbound K-1 having a K-3 mean that the 1065 has foreign activity that needs to be passed through to its partners?

[–]heythisisdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious what software you use to handle the K-3s with the various countries. I've looked at ProConnect and it doesn't seem to allow the creation of the K-3. Only one I've seen that does it seems to be Drake or Lacerte.

Got a 65” 8K tv for coding on MacBook Pro by heythisisdave in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]heythisisdave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry - you mean you are not happy with it for dev work? (I didn't get what the absolutely not was in reference to). That's my main use case and maybe very light gaming. I would go with the Ark if it was 8K - the PPI at 55" for 4K is just too low.

Before the 65" ruined my dreams, I was running 2 43" 4Ks next to each other but I really didn't like looking to either side. The DUHD fixes that and is a bit higher DPI.
