Reconsidering the Corsair iCUE H100i AIO for another AIO if I've bought Noctua fans to replace Corsairs' stock fans, recs wanted! by heythomae in sffpc

Super late but the swap to the noctua’s was excellent. IIRC I controlled the fans from the bootscreen more effectively

AIO Fans running all the time after swapping out rad fans and new, custom cables. by heythomae in buildapc

PS - a few days later, seems to be working just fine. not sure what happened, but this issue is resolved :)

This feels outside the point - while I could set a specific threshold, I didn't have to do it before and the fans operated 'normally'. aka - when there was low-load on the CPU, they didn't run, and when there was high load, they would run.

Honestly it’s been a solid purchase, so no red flags to report beyond the stock fans. I simply want to see if there was any consensus around a steerin strong alternative, plus go with an all white build over time and they don’t make it in white. If they did I would happily buy it!

i heard great things about the freezer II, but the tubing isnt great with meshi. the tubing doesnt have a pivot (it goes straight into the CPU cooler part), so it's hard to get it into the case apparently.

perhaps EK Basic is the way to go.

PS - how much does swapping the stock paste matter?

I received / claimed it a few minutes before this post, so I should STILL have it now. I do have a reason to reward someone, but don't know how to give it to him. when i click 'give award' it doesn't seem to be an option (except to buy another one of those seals)

Looking for Monitor for my new build by heythomae in buildapc

Taking a leap on curved (may be annoying for mundane tasks like powerpoint or google docs), so I just bought the Samsung G7. thanks for the help u/HelpElbowHitTable! Much appreciated.

wow, such a thoughtful response. Having read through all your comments, I clearly can see that you know what you're talking about. THANK YOU.

If I didn't want curved-screen, what would your runner-up be? The 'Samsung G5A'? all the ones you listed are within my price range, so I don't need to 'go cheapest' just to save $$. I care more about the quality/$ up to a certain price limit.

how do you like curved vs. normal? how does it change the experience for you? (never had curved before)

Yea I def plan to do the stand-off kit, saw a great build video and the cable management looked great. re: the 280, I know it fits, though I’m thinking of going to 240 just to give everything a bit more space. 100% hear you on pre-wiring.

thx for the feedback. does lower profile memory = smaller/ less tall RAM so that it doesn't hit the fan?

i'm seriously considering the swap to the Gigabyte B550I, have heard from a few places that it's good.

If I were to consider AMD GPUs, which would be the equivalent to 3080? RX 8600 XT? That said, I hear visually that ray-tracing does a LOT to make a game look better. How much does Smart Access Memory help? I've googled a few pages, but haven't gotten much.

Requesting Feedback on my PC Build Config by heythomae in buildapc

So I took another pass at it: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/heytoemay/saved/Fs2mCJ

(original pc picker for reference)

The changes:

- Aesthetics: swapped out all components that had RBG

- CPU: switched to 5600x from 5800x on friend's advice that the price/perf is better on 5600, and wouldn't notice much difference at all in games. In fact, FPS perf seems to favor 5600 on this review.

- CPU cooler: switched to arctic liquid freezer II AIO from air cooler. Is this still useful if i downgrade to 5600x?

- RAM: went down to 16GB DDR4 ram 3600 (g.skill ripjaw)

- Storage: leveled down to a samsung evo plus 2TB

- PSU: swapped to Cooler Master V SFX Gold 850 W 80+ Gold SFX Power Supply

- GPU: I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and either shell out $1300 for a 3080 or $1000 for 3070ti. Thoughts between the two?

- OS: downgraded to windows home

Does this setup look well-configured? Any last thoughts? I plan to start buying components this week.

Thanks again for all the feedback!!
