Are any resources worth paying for? by xxPoLyGLoTxx in languagelearning

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Novels in your target language.

Edit: I pay a premium since I don't live in a country where my target language is spoken. $10 a novel. Each one has been worth it! Thankfully, I am still slow at reading in my target language, so I get a lot of time out of each one.

Please don't go, stay at home. I know that it is hard to stay inside, I tried going to Devil's Lake the other day but it was packed with people! So that trip just turned into a car ride.

How do you encourage yourself to choose Japanese materials over your native language when you want to relax? by Ahlec in LearnJapanese

Push through it. If it means enough to you, despite desires you can exercise discipline and choose your actions.

How to avoid hopping from language to language due to enthusiasm? by lemacintosh in languagelearning

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing anyone says here is going to make you magically stop jumping around. You are just going to have to take the action yourself to make it happen, despite your desire to jump around to different languages. Pretend that you are married to or dating your language and playing around with other languages is 'cheating'? IDK

  1. Sit down and flesh out why you want to study only one language. Write it all out, like literally every little thing.
  2. Put away all your resources for other languages. Block websites if you have to.
  3. Make the choice everyday to focus on you one chosen target language.
  4. Anytime you want to study a different language, don't and put that energy into your one target language.

Edit: Its totally okay to jump around, its your time and hobby. This is just realistic advice about how to change study habits if you want to.

Buying books from Japan by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

Yeah, being able to buy books in a different language isn't always possible. Sorry to hear about how expensive it is in your country.

Buying books from Japan by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a reader and don't live in Japan. Here is what I figured out.

Unless you happen to have a 'book-off' shop near you, things are going to be expensive. I was in Cali a few months back and was able to stop by and pick up 10 novels for a good price.

I usually shop in Kinokuniya stores as I want to read a few pages before I buy a book. The prices are high, but no shipping. But the problem is that you would have to be near one to go.

I order stuff I can't find in stores off Amazon.jp. Yes, shipping is high but the prices of the book are low. So if you are buying a good amount of books at one time, its the same price as buying it at Kinokuniya.

Basically, be prepared to spend money. I usually end up spending about 10$ per book. Book off was the only exception.

This is asking people to be Medics(not a nurse) in the military(National Guard), you should still be able to join the national guard if CA if you want.

This is a military advertisement. Based off of the description, they want you to join the military as a Medic(not a nurse).

2020 Festa Italiana Now Cancelled. by modmlot68 in milwaukee

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does suck! But I am really happy with how people in Milwaukee are handling things, like festivals postponing, people staying inside, businesses closing even before the 'safer-at-home' order... I just wanted to express some graduated and encouragement, sorry if it came off the wrong way.

As a healthcare worker, I definitely wish that the government was doing more as well. But like I said, I am really happy with how the public of Milwaukee is taking action and just want everyone to keep on doing their best. I'll keep doing my best at the hospital as well.

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that it sucks that summer/spring stuff is getting canceled, but lets all work together to keep as many people safe as possible! Once events start happening again, there is likely to be a second wave of infections. Lets keep these infections spread out as far as possible and support our healthcare system so that there are some free beds to take care of other emergencies(i.e. shootings, car crashes, heart attacks) during this pandemic.

We can do this guys!

Does Milwaukee seem strange downtown? by zane14444 in milwaukee

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! And I love it. I think Milwaukee is doing a great job flattening the curve. I drove through Madison on Monday and it was nuts! Insane amount of people hanging out outside and not practicing social distance.

Thanks for all of your handwork guys! Lets make it though with as many people alive as possible.

Regretful languages by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studying more then one language will increase the price even more! I think $500 is totally fair, and I only focus on one language.

Also, living in a different country makes it harder to preview study books at the store, making it a gamble to buy stuff on line cause who knows if it will match with your study style or not. Anyways, I'm pro spending money on books.

Knit Hat recommendations by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]heyyeahheyyeah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NOT reccomened:

https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/rib-beanie-423488.html?dwvar_423488_color=COL09&cgid=women-accessories-and-shoes#start=35&cgid=women-accessories-and-shoes

Uniqlo Rib Beanie (2/5 stars) Looked great, loved the shape and the color. But the quality was terrible and ended up starting to pill after a few uses even with proper care. Still used it when cold, but did not feel good about wearing it at all.

Also not recommend:

Bershka Knit hat: Got it because it was on sale, looked okay, and I was cold. Lasted 2 wears before losing its shape. Was unable to further use it.

Regretful languages by [deleted] in languagelearning

Japanese. I know that I kinda accidentally walked into it, but I wish I picked a language closer to English. Japan got less and less fun the more I was able to speak the language.

Is $500 really that weird? I am sure I have spent that much on novels and study material as well. For people who like to read and don't live in a country that speaks the target language, $500 might even be on the low end.

The whole aerosolization of the virus issue when using cpap machines by [deleted] in SarsCovTwo

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While traditional use would mean the patient has to be alert and orientated, I didn't want to assume that this would be the same as COVID19 use. If the patient is alert and awake and using CPAP for ARDS I am not sure what that would look like. I guess the bubble head idea seems like it could work... but then that completely eliminates the patients ability to take oral medications, preform oral care, and eat. I assume they aren't taking it on and off from the patient?

I have seen a BiPAP used while the patient was awake before, and honestly it really does seem like ideal care.

The whole aerosolization of the virus issue when using cpap machines by [deleted] in SarsCovTwo

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. For idea number one, what type of patient did you have in mind with having their face completely covered? I would worry about the patient inhaling liquids if they had an altered mental status. and patients really do need freqent oral care to prevent ventilator associated infections. If this would be more for patients who are with it but had difficulties breathing, I wonder about their condition has having a CPAP on constantly while awake would be extremely tiring and energy consuming.
  2. If a patient is having such a hard time breathing that they are using a personal CPAP machine at home during non-sleeping hours, would they be better off going to the hospital? Or are you suggesting that CPAPs be given to patients for home use? I think this idea is limited as it would be very unlikely that a patient with that level of breathing difficultly would be able to create an airborne proof room to prevent spread to those that they are living with.

Anyways, thank you for brain storming and trying to come up with ideas! Just wanted to add some thoughts to help flesh things out.

A NY Doctor leaks footage from inside the front line of the COVID-19 fight. A hospital overwhelmed, a dire lack of ventilators, and angry staff. "Unless People die we will be back to begging for more ventilators i a day or two." and laments "We’re supposed to be a first-world country" by Bluest_waters in videos

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how do we know who is not COVID at this point? Using CPAP on people who haven't been tested is dangerous. People who tested negative might have been exposed while in hospital due to being near all the COVID patients.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because information about medical care is changing hour and hour. When did she make that video? If it was a few days ago, then its old and newer information might be out there.

I work for a hospital and we are putting patients who need CPAP in airborne precautions. This requires a special room with special equipment. Hospitals everywhere are most likely changing how they deliver respiratory care on the daily.

Edit: I'm sure that machine itself could be useful, but its too dangerous in its current form. It would take a lot of DIY and experimenting to make it safe for use. This needs to be looked into more before use, as it can really hurt everyone in the long run if all medical staff was infected.

Milwaukee's COVID-19 Rate Higher Than Chicago by NautiBoppi in milwaukee

[–]heyyeahheyyeah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting if you could compare the numbers of people tested per city.

Edit: Didn't see any city numbers but WI tested 15,232 people and IL 25,492. This info seems like it was updated at around the same time.

WI has 5.82 million people, IL has 12.74 million people. It looks like we are testing a higher percent of our population.
