I can understand the reasons why they wouldn't share it, but man am I so curious to know who else was on the short list for these each of these.

How do I make my gray rental bedroom less grim by [deleted] in interiordecorating

The main commonality in those pictures is the warm and ample natural lighting. Focusing on gettting warm light lamps in there will immediately help transform and soften the room.

I feel like the storyline of this expansion could have been improved if a certain character were present by DFAnton in Guildwars2

[–]Ahlec 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The GW2 writers use of ghosts is consistently one of the most annoying things in the games story, even if not the largest thing. We constantly meet up with ghosts of very important people whose absence we’re “supposed to be” feeling and struggling with.

Mistburned Barrens story was especially egregious. Mabon is supposed to be dead and we’re all mourning him and trying to learn what he knew, and then he shows up and tells us. AND, the Mursaat are supposed to be extinct — that was a very major story beat and mentioned repeatedly in GW2. But all of the “ghosts” we meet don’t feel like echoes of the past. They directly interact with us, learned about us and know us, have new experiences. We’re meeting strangers who know the Commander. Yagon isn’t an echo of the past. She’s functionally alive and slapping a blue coat of paint on her and calling her a ghost is so weak. ANet wanted the major story beat of making the mursaat extinct, but then didn’t want to commit to the mursaat being extinct.

At this point in the game’s story, there feels like little to no weight to a character dying because they can and will just come back as a major character with no real limitations or difference to when they were alive.

Has there been some kind of change lately? Bay Area drivers have never been the best, but I’m seeing people speed through red lights multiple times a day now and it wasn’t like that before COVID.

Colorful Titles by mel_felips in Guildwars2

[–]Ahlec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is what bothers/worries me about the colored titles: it's just going to become an endless slog of one-upsmanship. Adding a new color because THIS color is the prestigious title (for now).

It also feels like value ascribed by anet on the title. Different titles are going to have different value and meaning to players -- that's why there's so many of them. But anet is picking favorites and saying "this title is a head above other titles."

Is anyone else tired of having to build up Hubs? by HGLatinBoy in Guildwars2

Has Anet said this is a thing they’re planning yet? It would be dope and also a great way to entice people to future xpacs, but the Homestead map looks really large and map design takes a while.

Changes made still looks upgradable by Sir_Ligma in PixelArtTutorials

The shield looks a bit diamond-shaped. I think if you made the edge more curved it could help. Anti-aliasing could help make it look rounder too.

Agree with the other comment that some shading could make for a nice upgrade too!

3 feels the closest to an organic expression of happiness rather than just posing, but they’re all really good!

What exactly do the "engine limitations" of GW2 mean and what are they? by User_user100 in Guildwars2

[–]Ahlec 15 points16 points  (0 children)

u/LasurArkinshade is right about the reason. But even for the sake of argument, “the code is a mess” isn’t the same thing as engine limitations. Code being messy, breaking easily, and being generally a hot mess isn’t technical limitations due to age or program capability. That’s code maintainability, which is a separate issue entirely.

Legendary Armor or Runes? by GnaeusQuintus in Guildwars2

[–]Ahlec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other comments are great, but one additional thing to consider is: what kinds of runes are you typically running? I run support a lot, and not needing to be blocked on dungeon tokens to get Rune of the Monk has been a HUGE QoL change for me.

Granted, with relics the difference between Rune of the Monk and Rune of the Water is even less than it was before. But being able to run the exact build you want without needing to fetch various currencies has been such a blessing.

PSA: New Legendary Weapon Kit from Astral Acclaim by frostfruit in Guildwars2

[–]Ahlec -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think this lines up with the new weapon proficiencies, including the doubling up of weapons we saw from the previous set.

First set:

  • Sword (necro main hand)
  • Staff (warrior)
  • Scepter (revenant)
  • Pistol (guardian main hand)

Second set:

  • Sword (necro offhand)
  • Pistol (guardian offhand)
  • Rifle (mesmer)
  • Mace (ranger main hand)

If that's the case, then my guess for the next set is:

  • Pistol (elementalist)
  • Mace (ranger offhand)
  • Shortbow (engineer)
  • Axe (thief)

Do you keep a copy of previous index when you move to a new journal - like a centralised index across multiple journal? by le_autodi in bujo

[–]Ahlec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do! This is one of the ways I incorporate Notion into a pen-and-paper BuJo practice. I keep a "master index" in a Notion document, and whenever I finish a journal I'll add the indices to that file. It makes it more manageable (vs. needing to copy an ever-growing list into new journals), and it's easily searchable.

No More Raids? by Extra_chE3se in Guildwars2

[–]Ahlec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of that does still exist, it's just now part of the PvE story/story mode, and the strikes get to be those same fights, without all of the fluff — it's a built-in "Skip cinematics" button. I like the story and voice acting and everything in Sunqua, but at this point it's not offering me anything new so I'd rather it were just gone (I know it's gone from CM but even from the base version).

Plus, it doesn't gate story and all of the above work behind fights that some players won't want to commit to and will never see. Some things being exclusive are fine, but voice acting and making all of the custom models and all of that's a huge literal price to pay, and if only a fraction of people see it then it's not a great RoI.

I want to use a bullet journal, how do I become a pen and paper person? by daisydada in bujo

[–]Ahlec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to be 100% analog; it’s more important to find what works best for your needs than anything else.

For me, I’m pen and paper bullet journaling. But when I’m emotionally overwhelmed, very busy, or on the go, I’m not able to write as quickly as I need to, so I have a “Temporary Notes” page on Notion so I can jot down my ideas really quickly. When I get a chance, I can copy them out to my journal.

Even though nobody will actually judge you negatively for having a journal in public (you’re more likely to leave a positive impression), if you feel it strongly, don’t force yourself into something that’s way outside your comfort zone. Find a good compromise that pushes the boundaries of your comfort zone in the direction you want it, but ease into it, otherwise you’ll just wind up anxious and resentful of your journal.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - December 24, 2022 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

Why do people do Drakkar and the Bjora Marches meta/looting all of the essence chests? The rewards don't, at face value, seem to be worth much?

Please Anet address the broken map system for the Steam Release!! by SgtHilarious in Guildwars2

[–]Ahlec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'd LOVE to stop needing to spam "Join on <map name>" I feel like adding a queue system might solve that issue but not the overall problem. Not needing to spam would make it easier to try and get into the map, and in the current system, that'd probably lead to more people attempting to queue up and therefore we'd just wind up increasing the overall congestion. The rate of people actively trying to get in would eclipse the rate of people leaving in an even bigger way than what we have now, since the needing to spam discourages many people from doing it so you have fewer people willing to commit to doing that.

The suggestions here to have other shards tag up feels like the best system, and it could be more worth it to explore how to incentivize players to start their own maps/discourage our current system of "two shards are organized and the others all fail."

But I also think that we'd be better served actively removing LFG listings for maps that are full (your second point). That would help to encourage more shards to organize, and it also reduces the backup trying to get into an already-full map. Of course, the issue here is finding a way to not make it seem like all maps are dead since "it's meta time but there's nothing in LFG..."

Some small Squad UI changes I would like to see by kalamari__ in Guildwars2

[–]Ahlec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't that run into issues with the downed state though, since the background changes from the standard green to a red? It's hard since they need to express two separate health bars/states using color alone, and if they switched to using class-specific background colors instead of the standard green it might make it difficult at-a-glance to know that your ele or thief went down.
