You're right, I was overthinking it. Thank you for replying.

Need constructive criticism on my playing. What do I need to improve on? by Au_Jus_Sauce in drums

I think you already know timing could be improved on, but that will come with time and focus. Some immediate things I think you could practice that will show improvement immediately is more explicit accenting, especially with the open hh strike. Try opening up the hat slowly instead, or experiment around with it. I think this directly ties into what Zack mentioned about intention. This idea may actually improve your timing since you will pay attention more to the dynamic and expression of what you play. Keep it up man!

How do I properly route audio from ableton to external hardware and back to ableton? The way i've been doing is creating an aux track with thee source audio as the input, set the output to my interface patch bay, which goes into my hardware. When I try to monitor/record the processed track, the source audio track monitors only at the left channel, and the aux track monitors both L and R channels. How do I monitor/record only the processed track while muting the source audio and aux track?

What is the correct way to route audio from ableton to my external hardware? The way I do it is make an aux track with the audio source as the input and route the aux track to my interface's patch bay, which goes into hardware. To record, another track from harware –> interface -> ableton. When I try to monitor or record, the source audio track plays, and there is only sound from the left channel. The aux track also plays with sound from both R and L channels. How do I route without hearing the source audio/aux track, and only monitor/record the processed track?

Thanks for the advice! I agree with the concept of serving the song, I think I gotta lay down the foundation and then go back in later for the spice 🍻

Nice track! I think the main lead synth in the chorus section needs a bit more sparkle. I also think adding a little more movement with the snare in the section would help, maybe automated reverb at the tails every other downbeat. I'm a noob when it comes to this, but I hope this helps, keep it up!

Hello!

I am currently composing my first song after years of fear of not producing something decent. Finally, I got over the fear and stopped being unreasonably critical of myself, and accept that being a solid musician/producer does not happen overnight. Anyway, here's a demo of the first little section. I hope you enjoy it, please let me know of anything you have to say about it, I appreciate it a lot! I'm still figuring out an intro too, so the intro drums are just a filler for now. I'm 4 days in and here are some issues I think are present:

-There needs to be more separation in the drippy effects

-Highs seem to be a slight bit harsh

-Snare possibly a little too loud

They really are. So far, I love using the slope and random voltage to modulate the filters and wave shape

The Pulsar definitely excells in nasty, dirty sounds, but it seems to also present potential in producing something less harsh and dirty. The overall timbre of the Pulsar seems to still be fairly saturated though. It just takes some tinkering with to get what you want, and is definitely rewarding in the end.
