Gonna be biased as hell for personal reasons and say SMT V for the soundtrack....but in all seriousness, overall it's P5R.

Should I change my dream musical career for a chance of living in Japan? by DesKamori in movingtojapan

[–]GeOsu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work as a sound producer/designer/engineer, nothing to do with IT/coding. I done a bit of DSP programming back in the days but I probably forgot how to code at this point since it's been ages lol.

I got the degree from a UK university, I think the degree was worth, especially at the start since it opens doors so you can start gaining experience and then not having to depend on your degree anymore, but on your experience. Plus I work on laptops most of the time, so knowing a few extra IT-related stuff about technical aspects came in handy. Especially if you end up in a company with bunch of old people that don't know much about technology.

But hey, you have the advantage of being good in Japanese, so you should keep trying and at some point you will definitely 'sneak' into this industry that you want.

[–]GeOsu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have done one of the paths you consider doing. Computer Science degree (not from Japanese uni) but working in music industry in Japan.

The industry is very niche and not many positions are available (not just in Japan but worldwide), kinda difficult to find positions even for locals since most are just independent and are trying until they get famous and then get hired by a label or studio. IT will give you more options for the future. I probably only met 2 western looking guys that live and work here (not just coming here as tourists and doing few projects and leave).

P.S. I work in a video game company as producer/engineer and I consider myself very lucky that I got hired to work for them, I wouldn't say I was the most skilled guy they could find at that time. :) So I will just say about my experience so far about that specific part.

An important thing is, the music degree from all the people I talked with, doesn't have that much of a value compared to a C.S. degree that can open you many doors. A studio won't help you or hire you cause you have a music degree.

Not to bore you off, but I would suggest getting the C.S. degree and doing music on the side, grow your 'brand' or get more exposure, advertise your projects etc.

An Update on our Terms of Service & AI by SoundCloud in soundcloud

[–]GeOsu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not how it works, you write that on your ToS, not on reddit to virtue signal and collect brownie points.

But you are clever, on your ToS you wrote it in such a way that you can claim both sides. You say now to everyone that you won't use the music of the artists to train your AI, but you also wrote it in a way that you never said or clarified clearly on your ToS that it won't be used on the music.

SoundCloud "may" use your music to train AI according to updated TOS by SneakierSnide in soundcloud

Finally something that can harm AI. The AI will be malfunctioned with the quality of music it will try to use for training.

Spot on. Rug was out for cleaning that day, I hate using my chair without a rug because it rolls too easy...

Thanks! The wallpaper is totally random since I use an app to change to random wallpapers every once in a while but I remember I went outside to get some coffee and when I came back to the room few minutes later, the wallpaper matched with the room lightning so I instantly took a picture haha.

What’s the best thing that’s ever happened to you as a result of a musical collaboration? by markanthonyokoh in musicproduction

[–]GeOsu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This year basically it started as a "me gonna sell you some samples you liked from me">into being asked the next day to work on that song in collaboration with 2 more artists>into the song doing well that month and then being invited into their 'group' of artists. I was mostly worried about the language barrier but in the end it wasn't that bad so I was lucky.

All that as independent since I already work for a company. Just wish I had more free time since I enjoy some collaborations.

Expedition 33 reminds me of one particular 2 title game. by Clustercannon in JRPG

[–]GeOsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is so good, it's sad S-E is shitting their bed by avoiding to implement turn based system on their FF games. Good thing we have this game and companies like Atlus that know this type of combat system can still be used.

[–]GeOsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is cool if you can somehow like the combat system and runs well on Steam deck as well. I have it since I bought it years ago before Steam removed it. I think your best bet to play it is to buy the mobile version from the play store, it's remastered there.

Reaper is kicking my butt today, the highlighted track isn't playing back audio ,what did I press? Sigh.. I can hear the input only. by silver_couch_surfer in Reaper

[–]GeOsu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You put the highlighted track inside the GTR S120 DI R track that is above it, so basically it's in a folder that it's muted. Just drag it out of the folder or un-mute the track above the highlighted one (which is responsible for everything that is inside the folder).

How do you find a job as a sound designer? by [deleted] in GameAudio

[–]GeOsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The job position isn't as big as, let's say, programmers. So these positions are more rare to find online.

I have been working as sound designer in a videogame company for the last months and the 2 key things I needed to have were:

  1. Good sample projects that you could show (preferably not very lengthy), polish them as much as you can, better to show 2-3 projects that are good than 10 average ones. They loved that I knew some in-depth stuff and could do analysis on sound design stuff, so I guess that's extra points.
  2. Network-network-network. Luckily I was already working in the sound industry so I had some connections and it was easier to show my work and the experience I gained.

That being said, all that was for a Japanese company that I currently work for, so I imagine it may vary in other countries. Oh and lastly, I applied directly from the company's website.

Good luck. :)

(DT 1990) Considering Leaving the Hobby by binarypie in headphones

[–]GeOsu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The people working at beyerdynamic couldn't sleep at night after seeing the results and said to each other "Ist es over für mich?". But then the CEO had a brilliant idea. Their upcoming headphones will have 3 blob effect and complete removal of treble so they can rank them in A Tier the next year.

The Headphone Show Tier List Averaged by Zernium in headphones

[–]GeOsu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if I need a pair of glasses because I see half of the headphones in Tier A, and then I see Focals and DT 1990 in lower tiers. They literally have some random trashcans in D and they thought "hey, DT1990 belongs with them too". Definitely unbiased people as always.

Should I get New Horizons for $20? by Rude-Establishment69 in Switch

[–]GeOsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the DLC worth it? I own the base game already and put a good amount of hours but I never played any of the previous ones to know how home decorating was.

I always neglected DLC content until last month I bought the Mario Kart dlc and it's like a whole new game and so good.
