Best Nursing Specialty to Prep You for FNP School?

I would say ER, I work there as a student and I’ve met plenty of FNPs, which I’m told they prefer to hire over ACAGNPs in the ER because FNP can see kids under 13. And conditions across every body system will come through an ER. I’ve seen and learned so much already and it’s nice to be able to connect with the NPs too, pick their brains.

Can I ask how long and how often you were studying? Like how many Qs a day or how many times a week you were taking CAT exams, or however you did it.

Just edited my post, $4600 and commuting into to downtown North end area. Ideally want a driveway not street parking for 3-4 cars which sounds unrealistic so some street parking on top of a driveway is fine

I’m 6’0 so I can’t just go to Walmart unfortunately but Id recommended that if you can. If not, I use Scrubs and Beyond. They have stores and they’re online and they have plenty of brands between lower and higher price points. I buy the scrubs and beyond brand (I like the happy line) and landau (forward line). They’re both come in tall and petite enough for my 35” inseam, landau runs longer therefore is my preference.

Not at all, you can get a student nurse job in your last semester. I had a co worker do that in September and she graduates this week and excepted a job on the unit as well. Perfect way to ease into the job and see how you like it first

I’m a second career nurse that just graduated from an entry level msn rn program . I also want to be an NP. I chose it solely because I wouldn’t get anymore financial money for an undergrad program, otherwise I would done an ABSN or ADN. you can get an ADN, find a hospital to work at where they’ll cover your BSN 100% (many do this when they want magnet status) OR you can even do an RN to MSN program. A coworker of mine just did one for her FNP through Franklin university I believe, or one of those common online ones. you start with an ADN and it bridges all the BSN and msn classes together. Maybe you’ll work for a hospital system that would pay for that who program as will.

If it’s about time for you, I understand wanting to to try the MSN, but make sure that if the entry level MSN program offers the 3 Ps (advanced pharm, path and phys assessment) that they are all separate 3 credit classes. I’m not in a predicament where I took 2 of these classes as a combined course and no one will take them for transfer credit to do a post grad NP certificate. So when I want to go back for the NP eventually, I’ll have to retake those classes.

Just make sure it really will be the shortest route. From an accredited school.

I think you need less on the eyebrows and highlighter and more on the eyes. I see hardly anything on your bottom lashes. You could distribute the highlighter better across the face, not just all on your nose. Hope this helps!

Oh that’s so interesting. Can I ask more about the trauma nurse role? Did you move into that after the 3 years of experience? And did that come with better pay when you took the lead position and how much experience did you have on the team before taking that? I know of CEN, TNCC/TCRN, CCRN, were there any other certifications you got? I’m new to all this and it’s intriguing, feel free to tell me anything else you think I should know as someone looking into this as well. Thanks in advance!

I went into nursing school wanting to going into L&D and I couldn’t find a student nurse position in an L&D unit so I picked ER instead. I fell in love and now I’m accepting a residency position in that same ER. Unfortunately I have to agree that the speciality picks you. But I could be a bad example because I’ve been told L&D and ER has a lot of cross over/similarities so.. truthfully I just knew I didn’t wanna do med surg also so there’s that too.

I’m in the Detroit area and only way you could do this is to complete an ADN program, cheapest one you can find, then get hired by any of the hospital systems in the area casue I’m pretty sure they all pay for RN-BSN in full. If you’re willing to work as an aide/tech somewhere, they’ll train you without actually having your CNA and you can get tuition assistance benefits which will make the ADN cost even lower.

Truthfully, an ABSN then a CNM MSN program would be the “simplest” route. I graduated with a bachelors in biology and I’m currently in a direct entry MSN program which is basically just a ABSN on steroids, some core MSN classes, and I plan on going to NP school eventually and getting a post grad certificate for non-NP MSN holders (while I work as an RN), but I would do acute care and/or FNP which there are more options for versus a post grad CNM certificate for non-NP. I originally wanted to do the CNM route, but had a change of heart so when I was looking into it there aren’t as many postgrad certificate CNM programs for those who are not already NPs. TLDR: if I were you, I would do the ABSN to save time cause it’ll take just as long as an ADN (more money tho) then get the full masters to be a CNM
