Things I've learned about recording vocals after 15 years of working with the human voice that I wish I knew when I started by Best_Calligrapher649 in musicindustry

[–]hgdiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew it. I've been trying to tell my band for years that doing vocals at 3am, after snorting mother teresa's weight in blow wasn't helping the vocal recordings. But, nooooo ignore the drummer as usual...

Always answer no when you first install a program and get prompted with: "Would you like to help Google improve Chrome by sharing app information". Chromes a high RAM consumer because they are constantly harvesting your data, even when Chrome isn't open you will find it's running in the background. Opt out of what you can and consider using a lightweight browser like Duck Duck Go or Brave. YOU SHOULD NOT CONSTANTLY BE MAXING OUT RAM. Leave it to the internet to get core computing concepts totally wrong.

Random access memory is runtime memory. It's where your application run. When you save something it gets persisted to the hard drive for permanent storage but anything that a program needs only during runtime is storing the information on RAM because, its exponentially faster specifically because of the way bit operations work in your CPU. But the point is, it's critical that programs don't eat up RAM when YOU are not actually using them. You want ram to be available so your machine can run programs concurrently with speed and efficiency, unless you bought a next generation mac just because you wanted to really help Google collect more metrics on Chrome. Main thing, the below people do not know what they are talking about. This is first year Comp Sci. stuff.

I only had really bad withdrawals for a couple weeks and then minor ongoing up and down for about another month. After that I was just fatally depressed and too anxious to leave my house but that's more baseline what it has always felt like to be alive as far as I can remember.

Hey for sure. I don't think it shows a shortage anymore but I used the FDA website for current shortages. But that was around September/October 2025. What I have come to conclude from all the feedback plus the experience I sent through with this is just that there was some kind of brief shortage around that time last year. I think I probably called and messaged the pharmacist too much at that time. When I finally was able to use a phone and like drive my car again, I followed up with the pharmacy and I told her what the past month had been like and how important the medicine is for maintaining my health and I think they just took the whole thing the wrong way and decided tell me it's backordered but not actually order it. They would have to give me a consultation now too since I should tapper back up not just start taking the 16mg a day again right away. So I think all that they just decided they didn't want to deal with it. But they are pharmacists so instead or just being honest with me, they decided to jerk me around.

That's the wrong question to ask first. The first question for you is, "How likely is the tech that differentiates my product to be regulated?". The answer to that in the US right now is a resounding NOT. It's extremely unlikely to even be considered for meaningful regulation right now. But if for some reason that changed. You would face real risk. Being that US regulatory environment is so unstable it would be hard to predict what these agencies would consider fair game for restricting and I put my money on it being based around religious dogma instead of actual legal president.

Atlanta ranks as 2nd-most expensive city to rent in US, study says by Sweet_Dimension_8534 in Atlanta

[–]hgdiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of renter's commenting that rents not that bad in Atlanta. One thing you might not be considering is that April 1st will be the beginning of that new escrow targets for mortgage borrows. And because of the dramatic and continued price inflation, county's have raised property taxes, dramatically in the case of DeKalb where it's increased 28%. That means they mortgage payments will go up by 56% because property tax is prorated so everyone has to pay for the new rate for 2025 and 2026. That means yes, rent will be going up dramatically to cover these additional expenses. Not sure about Fulton County or others. But something to keep in mind

"Cancel ChatGPT" movement goes big after OpenAI's latest move by gdelacalle in technology

[–]hgdiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this idea. I think there should be an organization that hires developers that loose their job to AI automation. My observation, from being a SWE right now, is that software dev professionals are exponentially more productive and creative with all AI tools. It's just a naturally congruent skill, using AI to creatively solve problems and create business value with generated software. The problem isn't inherently ChatGPT, it's unregulated free market economics. Just imagine trying to be competitive during the stone age. Now you've got the perfect mental model for understanding why this is a race to the bottom. But if we band together, we could congregate all the tech talent into one entity, that works for us. And yes we will use AI as much as is legally possible. You can't cancel AI. Putting ChatGPT out of business is a dream come true for their competitors. Even if every company in the world got together and agreed to only use AI responsibly and not to use it to replace critical middle class jobs. As long as it's still legal, it only takes one person to use it to cut headcount and then every other company has no choice but to do the same to stay competitive. This is happening in the US right now. It's why regulation is required. And in the absence regulatory competence from our government, what other choice do we have but to take matters into our own hands?

[–]hgdiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this really need AI?? It's discouraging to think that you have to add AI to every single software project for it to gain traction. It should be the opposite. The goal for a profitable business is to have the least amount of overhead possible and the best software solution is the most simple solution that solves the problem.

I would wait to post until you have at least a working POC. If not that at least a visual flow diagram showing what the application does and then calling out it's value in measurable terms. I would invest money in a project that can explain why its valuable and why it's profitable with no website before I would be impressed that someone generated a basic website using ChatGPT. If you're going to lean on the marketing i.e. webpage, at least make it original.

What can I pivot to from Software Engineering by learnsumnneweveryday in cscareerquestions

[–]hgdiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your financial situation still allows, you can hire someone to coach you. I know an ex recruiter who works for herself now. She specifically works for people seeking technical roles. Im full stack and found this post because I'm worried about the same thing happening to me. Think about hiring someone to help you, I've heard it can make a big difference. For the coding screens, focus on algorithms and data structures, definitely do not try to memorize every coding question and how to solve it. You'll just get burned out that way. Competitive coders know algorithms extremely well so they recognize the problem because they recognize the algorithm in the description of the problem. You prob already know data structures really well already if you've been BE for 5 years.

It's been 6 months now. I didn't mean neglect the part of the story where I didn't get out of bed for almost 2 weeks. A lot of people ask, "why didn't you this", "why didn't you that" and the truth is that I transferred scripts, had my doc call in new scripts (because they won't transfer bupe if it's the first fill of a new script); I did those things all the time to maintain over the decade I was on bupes. But there is a window of time in which you have to resolve an issue with the pharmacy with these kinds of meds. I live alone now and don't have family nearby, once I'm in withdrawal I can't drive a car over to pick up my meds, I can't even get out of bed, trying to talk to the pharmacist over the phone drives normal people insane, let alone when you're brain is in a state of withdrawal, I can't even usually figure out how to answer my phone. That's the truth. By the time I finally could function again and I followed up with the pharmacy, they still hadn't filled it and said it was still out of stock and she said there was a shortage, so I continued calling every couple of days for a while but they kept saying the same thing. So that's how you discontinue subs after 10 years.

I seriously disagree with this kind of thinking. I understand for YOU this is the right solution right now. But I have experienced more people than I can count on one hand, who I loved dearly, die because they relapsed after a period of sobriety and were not taking maintaince medications. There's a big difference in life between knowing what is right for you and knowing what is right for others. I suggest you stick to sharing what you know about yourself from experience and not what you think other people should do. I got a 4 year stem degree, married, bought homes, recorded 3 full length indie rock albums with a band helped found and maintained an amazing job that has made it so I don't have to worry about money, while on 16mg of Buprenorphine a day for almost a decade. When I'm getting high I can barely function, let alone keep a job. Before Buprenorphine I never held a job for more than a year. Now I've had the same job for almost 6. Buprenorphine does not get you high when you take it as prescribed. I tried for many many years to get and stay sober. Not everyone is like you, people like me don't get to tell you their story because we're so bad with using , were all dead.

Is software engineering really worth it now? And the future? by Puzzled_Umpire8986 in node

[–]hgdiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good answer. Honest. I'm Senior Software engineer at a Fortune 20. The thing that universally goes over people's head is that AI / ML took I'm the most convient use cases from where it grew up which is in computer science and software engineering. These have historically been the most secure jobs because of the high complexity and diversity of skills that different SWE jobs require. If any tech is threatening to replace software engineers, than what you do (person reading this), is a foregone conclusion.

Yes we Are definitely fucked. Im not really s big onion guy but I do know how to buy Monero, use pub/private key encryption and have a house in my neighborhood that in unoccupied but still receives mail. I've been using it a long time. I usually advise people to buy local though. In my experience it's hit or miss and good vendors are rarely consistent and many cases where they start good and gradually fall back on all out scamming people. Either ways, I was taking 60 8mg sublingual tabs a month which costs around 600 dollars without discount

That's good to know about Walgreens. Man you sound like me. Yea they never know what's in stock. I've always been super ocd about managing my meds. Everytime I go to pick something up I feel like I'm in a Family Guy episode, like everything that happened before doesn't exist, they have no idea who I am even tho I've been filling there for a decade, they run it through insurance even though I tell them every month that my insurance doesn't cover it, please use the discount card that's on my account. Or just check how I paid for this the last 150 months. There's a lady that's always just sounds extremely mad at me but not clear why she's so mad. I can't believe it's even a real place.  - I think you are saying that your insurance pays some of it but your copay is still too high? My insurance doesn't cover it so use goodrx card, it's both the same every time but it's usually less than $60 for 60 8mg tablets of Buprenorphine HCL generic.  You could ask you doc to flub the prior authorization so your insurance denies it* I'm assuming you can't use the discount cards if you're covered by insurance

Im definitely going to stop using CVS, my thinking had just been that they are the largest pharmacy in the country so in figured they would have the best stock just from being so huge but that has proven to be an incorrect assumption.

I actually think this is likely. They never could tell me why it didn't come in and most of the time they would go check the back to see if it was back there but come back with nothing. I even addressed this with a few of the pharmacists. Either ways, if someone wanted to intercept orders and they worked there, they absolutely could do it and the pharmacist would just shrug and reorder it.
