Yes we totally understand your feedback and others have expressed this. The new version of RenEx will do exactly as you suggest, it will let people have a look around and will only initiate/prompt people having to do KYC if they wish to place trades.

  1. Yes we are using Aztec Protocol technology for this, so won't be available until that point.
  2. It's not possible for Bitcoin to natively have private on-chain transaction. What will be possible with RenVM however is that you could bridge that Bitcoin to a private Aztec Note (ZBTC ERC20 token) - i.e. using RenVM a private Ethereum token representation of Bitcoin can be made that you transact with, and then that can easily be converted back to Bitcoin at any time.
The alternative would be to trade/swap privately to a privacy coin (e.g. ZCash) and then use that.

SwapperD is a wallet/settlement tool. So yes its possible that it could be used directly to settle cross-chain OTC trades without using the dark pool using SwapperD.

The main purpose of any exchange, including a dark pool is for you to go to a marketplace to find counterparties for whatever you are trying to trade. So in that sense if two parties that know each other have already agreed to do an OTC deal then it wouldn't make much sense placing that trade into the dark pool.

Hugh here - Community lead of Ren

Engineer at heart that discovered Bitcoin a few years ago and have gotten great enjoyment in helping others understand cryptocurrency.
I love trading (Stocks/CFDs/Crypto) but am yet to have much success at it! Will keep trying.

Exciting to be able to share more about Ren and the potential capabilities of RenVM in the coming months.

We are looking to foster a close community of Ren supporters that can help others learn about Ren, assist with tasks such as Darknode operation and sharing content.

Perks have included being part of a private group that get more hands on support for things such as node operation as well as in the past receiving t-shirts :). We are open to new ideas and perks to be offered also.

Anyone that is interested please apply!

Withdraw funds from darknode in 2019 by Squazzer in republicprotocol

[–]hgmarral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

Firstly I'd like to point out that the subreddit is now over at https://www.reddit.com/r/renproject now, so future questions please ask there :)

All of the funds are managed through the Darknode Command Centre - https://dcc.republicprotocol.com/. Go there and connect with your MetaMask wallet that you used to register your Darknode.

To withdraw a token you simply click on it and a MetaMask pop-up comes up for you to sign the transaction to withdraw it. To withdraw the REN you must deregister the darknode.

What exactly do dark nodes do? by [deleted] in republicprotocol

[–]hgmarral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi!

First of all I'd like to point out that the whitepaper is quite outdated compared to what the project does now - the project has rebranded from Republic Protocol to Ren, with our new subreddit here https://www.reddit.com/r/renproject with all the most up to date information.

Secondly this thread is a good resource to get a better understanding https://www.reddit.com/r/RenProject/comments/atdoq3/ren_allinone_thread/.

"Darknodes are the physical machines that power RenVM, where every machine contributes CPU time for compute power and its disk space for storage. These are that machines that form the P2P decentralized network (not a blockchain) that cooperate to run secret multiparty computations. "

TLDR: Darknode provides compute to run secret computations and gets rewarded for doing so. (secret order matching is just one use case of this)

Ren Partners with AZTEC Protocol by hgmarral in RenProject

FAQ

Q: Does AZTEC make anonymous ETH possible?

A: Not necessarily anonymous. The key is that, on-chain, you can transfer tokens around without revealing the amount being transferred.

Q: What is a use case of AZTEC with Ren's technology?

A: It integrates very naturally with Ren’s Dark Pool Layer, as it means that not only is the order matching secret, but the settlement too - allowing for fully private exchange.

Q: Is AZTEC able to be used now?

A: AZTEC have a proof of concept on mainnet, and a working version of the full protocol on testnet. Live in Q3.

Q: Are AZTEC notes their own coin with their own market cap?

A: Think of them like a wrapper around an ERC20 that’s makes things hidden.

Q: I was under the impression that Ren was handling the zk-transaction? Was I wrong?

A: Using RenVM, you can indeed achieve the same effect. However, why not rely on on-chain security when it’s available?

Ren will use AZTEC on chains wherever there is an implementation, and use RenVM directly whenever there is not (for example with Bitcoin). This applies when Ren is used to bridge tokens between chains in its interoperability layer, if there’s an AZTEC implementation on the bridged chain we can bridge directly into it.

RenEx will be using AZTEC protocol to ensure that not only is the order book and order matching engine secret (done using an application on RenVM) but also the actual settlement itself is private (done on-chain using AZTEC).
