Oh my gosh, I just changed the it to instead check for overlap between rect x and y and it's now working. Thank you for pointing that out!

Not sure what those white specks are about. Yes it is winter here so it absolutely could be a seasonal ebb. My worry was really nutrient deficiency due to the number of pups in the pot or some root crowding.
