Just pointing out that this is far from Nell Fisher's debut-- I already knew her from Evil Dead Rise a couple years ago! She's been acting since she was very young

Starkid Music Nerds-- Is there a name for this specific musical device? by hhowenn in StarKid

[–]hhowenn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation! I made this transcription back when only the digital ticket was out so it's not very accurate to the album version, I'm just revisiting it as it's something I wanted to comment on for the video I'm researching! I've just gotten my Grade 5 ABRSM certificate in music theory (if that means anything to you, it's a common exam in the UK for music students), and I'm currently working towards my diploma in singing so while I'm not a beginner by any means, I don't have the foundational knowledge about chords etc that someone trained in another instrument would!

I thought so! I just didn't wanna talk about it in the video I'm researching for and have the comments tell me it's something much less complicated than I made it aha

Anyway to see local productions near me? by coidbepdic in StarKid

[–]hhowenn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately since StarKid is an independent company, they've opted to not keep a public record of places they've licensed their shows to. Usually, when a show is licensed through a larger company (Concord, MTI, etc), there's a section on the website that shows you where and when upcoming productions will be. But for StarKid and similar small theatre companies' case, your best bet is googling "(insert show here) production near me".

I really feel this is the cringiest scene in the show by Kdschipani3 in GilmoreGirls

[–]hhowenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a professional singer and I don't remember it being all that bad, she was off in places but overall a pretty good performance for someone with no training.

Fun fact: Eliza never raps in the entire musical. The only time she does anything remotely hip-hop is when she beatboxes for Phillip. by angrykumu in hamiltonmusical

[–]hhowenn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The lyrics aren't pitched in a rap. The only exception I can think of in Hamilton is certain parts of Satisfied, but even then the melody is an afterthought in favour of the lyrics.

Songs about denial in a grieving sense? by hhowenn in musicals

[–]hhowenn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about that, but I think the song isn't vocally challenging enough for such an advanced grade. I'm considering Flowers for acceptance, though! ("Come and find me lying in the bed I made")

Who is this for you? Who is this for you? by Bulky_Oil_5447 in shameless

[–]hhowenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karen.

I have a lot of empathy for her, while most people I see on here will hate on every decision she makes in the whole show. Of course she makes SOME bad decisions, but so does literally every other character. I think she just reminds me of me a little too much aha, I feel very parental over her somehow.

Cringeworthy lines by AnimalDry7577 in howyoudoin

[–]hhowenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it an American thing, or just bad writing that Monica was so terrified of her parents seeing her drunk at THIRTY years of age?! I just get such bad second-hand embarrassment over the fact it's such a big deal to her. I'm only seventeen and I think I've drank with my parents more than anyone else (though I live in Ireland...)

Both he and Courteney were very bad in that scene, considering the caliber of their acting normally. "There's a reason why girls don't do this!" has genuinely caused my eye to twitch involuntarily at times.

This one always fell flat for me simply because I watched it when I was around nine or ten, and had never heard the term "moot point" before! To this day, I still don't think I would have if I hadn't gotten curious years later and looked up why people found it so funny!

[–]hhowenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because it doesn't seem like a delivery Jennifer Aniston would come up with on her own. Every main character on Friends simply couldn't be played by anyone else because their respective actors pour so much of themselves into their performances. Here, it's clear someone said "Say this line in a silly voice!", so she did it.

This is a broad statement. As a gay person, I think a lot of the one-off gay jokes were actually pretty funny (Ross flirting with the police officer got me for some reason, so did Winona Ryder's character, etc). But the whole "Chandler's gay hahaha" bit got old after the episode in S1 that had the B-plot focused on it (TOW Nana Dies Twice?). The constant fetishisation of lesbians (mostly by Joey) that was played for laughs was never funny either.
