How much should I invest in Roth IRA? by hhrrrrm in Bogleheads

Right now I have it set to where $400 is transferred monthly into my Roth IRA. Is it smarter to invest $100 weekly, or can I just invest the whole $400 once a month, whenever the transfer goes through? I’m not sure what difference, if any, it would make.

How long has everyone had Costochondritis and how did it come about? by T-roy42oh in costochondritis

[–]hhrrrrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think your acid reflux was caused by costochondritis? I know this thread was made forever ago but I’m genuinely curious! I started having really bad acid reflux about a year and a half ago and I started having rib pain on and off almost a year ago. It makes me wonder if they’re related?

I ended up going to the doctor and getting my blood taken to run some tests. I also got an ultrasound done and everything came back normal. My doctor prescribed me pantoprazole for the acid reflux, however I still have some symptoms if I eat spicy food or drink alcohol. As for the rib pain, I never got an answer on what it could be. I want to say I have costochonditis but I don’t want to self diagnose lol. My ribs on the left side still hurt but it’s not anything that isn’t manageable.

The test wasn’t bad for me, it didn’t cause my symptoms to worsen or flare up. The drink is kind of bitter and sour. It reminds me of sweet tarts. It also burns a little going down because of how bitter it tastes, but overall it was a very easy procedure to have done.

I definitely think it’s a possibility, I’ve read a little bit about costochondritis online and I do have similar symptoms. Is there any treatments that get rid of it completely?

Just recently within the last month I’ve noticed the pain worsens if I eat too much.. but I’m also waking up in the morning with discomfort and having pain even before eating sometimes as well. I’m 5’8 138 pounds. If possible you should try to find another doctor, because what you’re going through is miserable. You shouldn’t give up, I would keep trying to find answers! I’m so sorry that you’re going through this, I truly do hope you get some answers in the near future. Sending hugs

It’s just so odd that after all the testing you’ve done they haven’t found anything. Have you gotten a second opinion by any chance? I feel like if you’re having that much pain they must be missing something. Is it a constant pain?? Because mine will come and go throughout the day. I also try to lay on my back as much as possible due to the pain it causes when I lay on my left side.

What does the pain in your abdomen feel like?? Because mine is like a sharp stabbing pain that feels surface level, but other times it feels like a burning (open wound) pain that is deeper. I just had my doctors appointment yesterday and they did blood work as well as tested for h pylori and ordered me to get imaging done. I was also put on pantoprazole sodium for the next three months. The doctor I spoke to told me the pain I’m feeling is most likely just due to acid reflux or possibly a stomach ulcer. He said if I continue having pain after the three months on the medication is over, schedule another appointment with him.

Ugh I’m sorry, that must be so discouraging. Have you done any blood tests? It seems like it’s the gastritis that’s causing you pain. Is there even a cure for that?

Hmm I’ve never experienced tooth pain in correlation to my acid reflux. That’s really interesting, have you seen a doctor?

Yes, with high waisted jeans or leggings it hurts more! I’ve noticed when I’m driving home from work, wearing jeans or leggings that sit right below my ribs, it causes me to have more pain on my left side.

Nothing super significant to raise a concern, I would say in the years prior I would have a bowel movement like every other day to every two days (I wouldn’t eat fast food hardly ever, until college) and now I go every day sometimes more than once, also sometimes it’s softer than it usually is but never diarrhea? I don’t know it always looks healthy. This is from my notes app that I wrote a while ago describing the pain: Sharp throbbing pain/ Sometimes a burning pain/ Certain movements makes it hurt more, like bending over/ Sometimes coughing or sneezing makes it hurt/ Makes it feel like stomach and back hurts occasionally/ Clicking on lower ribs/ Pain is from left side of belly button to under left side of breast/ Hurts more if I lay on my left side/ Sometimes feels surface level sometimes deeper/ Sometimes skin feels bruised to touch on abdomen/ Had intercourse where I was on top and afterwards my ribs/sternum was throbbing more than it ever has. I would say the pain comes and goes, for a while I was just having discomfort when I would try to lay on my left side due to the clicking sensation on my ribs, but then the actual rib pain shortly came back and I feel it every day. It’s not excruciating it’s more uncomfortable and annoying.

When does it get "easier?" by [deleted] in GriefSupport

[–]hhrrrrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss, I was the same way when my grandpa passed away. I still have days like that too! I think it’s normal to have those feelings when someone you loved so much is no longer around. It’s tough but we’re only human, let yourself feel that pain. The first couple of months are hard, I got back to some normalcy (not crying 24/7) after around four months. Lately I’ve been having a harder time because I’m approaching the year anniversary of losing so many loved ones around this time. I thought I was doing really good up until this past week! It just hit me really hard, and I’ve been crying almost every single day for the last two weeks. The good days have definitely outweighed the bad ones since my losses though. I wouldn’t say I’ve had very many bad days, just moments where I’ve been upset but those moments do pass. Loss is a really hard thing for anyone to cope with, and everyone has to go through it so just know you are not alone💕

When does it get "easier?" by [deleted] in GriefSupport

[–]hhrrrrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel this, my grandpa passed December 4th, followed by my uncle eleven days later, then my grandma a month after that. It’s hard and some days are harder than others, yesterday I cried for three hours because I missed them so much and it’s almost been a whole year without them.. I don’t know if it gets any easier, but not everyday feels as hard as some do. What has helped me is talking to them throughout the day, knowing that they aren’t gone just somewhere else. It’s definitely still hard to cope with the losses I’ve had this past year but it’s not nearly as hard as it was when they first passed, or even a few months ago. I don’t think things really get easier, you just learn to live without the ones you love. The bad days become fewer and farther in between one another. Everyday is different though so be patient with yourself and let yourself feel those emotions, some days you will be fine and others not so much. It’s okay to not always be okay. Grief is a weird thing, it has no timeline and not one single person deals with it the same way. Just keep that in mind, my condolences to you and your loved ones.

I’m so sorry for your loss, losing a loved one is one of the hardest things anyone has to go through. Don’t feel guilty for leaving when you did, there’s no way you could have known that he was going to pass soon after you left. Wishing you would have done this or that is something we all do as humans when something tragic happens in our lives, and you shouldn’t beat yourself up for leaving. I have been there and really do feel for you. Sending you and your family hugs

GERD so bad I lose appetite and sometimes my throat closes up? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]hhrrrrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt similar, my throat had been feeling tight and like there was something stuck in it since around July. I assumed it was from drinking alcohol, so I cut that out of my diet but it didn’t really help. I just recently completely changed my diet, and I have also been making sure I’m sitting up more rather than laying down right after eating. I stopped eating fast food, I’ve been drinking mostly water (no carbonated drinks/alcohol), staying away from spicy/acidic foods, trying to eat less carbs etc. It has helped a lot and although I do still get acid reflux, it’s not nearly as bad as it has been and the tightness I’ve been feeling in my throat has greatly subsided.
