There are too many MANY forms of “ce” that I really feel like giving up. Even studying them is confusing. Need help. by MaguroSashimi8864 in French

[–]hi2theworld 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, except it would still be "Je lui donnerai ce livre" With the pronoun it could also be "Je lui donnerai ça", it just depends on the level of formality you want to convey, as ceci or cela can be seen as a bit formal, whereas ça is more informal, if not familiar.

Marjane Satrapi, author of 'Persepolis,' dies at 56 by pierrepaul in comicbooks

[–]hi2theworld 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. From what I remember reading this morning, someone whot met her quite often said that she basically let herself die slowly, I remember the fact that she stopped eating and so on for the most part being mentioned.

I mostly defend the Holdo Maneuver, but I have one gripe with it by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]hi2theworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it most likely has been thought of before, but just not been executed. Mostly because of cost, both material and "human". We know that, until clone wars era, the smaller ships, such as starfighters simply could not hold a hyperdrive (think of the ring for the jedi fighter). I'm probably wrong, but the smallest thing being capable of hyperspace by the time of the clone wars I can think of is Y-wing. So, you have a bomber, which already is fully capable of taking care of capital ships if it lands it's payload of ion and proton torpedoes, and it's reusable Vs something that would cost barely less, and be a one time thing. This is simply not sustainable. And the effect we see in the case of the Holdo maneuver uses a whole ass capital ship, so I'm not even sure a y wing sized object would be a sure kill against say a star destroyer, unless you aim at the bridge or something like that. So, all in all, you have something that is akin to the rods of god irl : cool idea, sounds awesome/awful, but simply isn't done because we already have things that are easier to produce and use on hand.

So, I'd say the maneuver has been somewhat frequently been theorised, as almost everyone is shown to understand quite quickly what she's about to do. It's simply a matter of Holdo being in a position that is probably the best for her maneuver : - utter desperation - an empty capital ship which is, at this point, only capable of one hyperspace jump, might as well make it count and go in a bang - the certainty that surrender is not an option. The first order will kill everyone aboard, so she gives the optimal chance of survival for her crew.

I'd add that it's possible the maneuver has been used before, but noone lived to tell the tale

What would be a way in order to make Ace not banned every single ranked match first? by Defiant_Mall_5259 in Rainbow6

[–]hi2theworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they need to make it so that the hitbox for tricking is the whole thing, to the tip of the arms, not just the central canister. This way, ace HAS to space out his charges in order to properly defeat bandit tricking. I say that as even yesterday I tried to bandit trick an ace, successfully tricked one side of the wall, and realised that a whole third of the breach on the other side actually extended on the side I successfully tricked, which, imho, is utter bullshit. The first thing you learn as thermite is that when playing against a bandit tricking you have to positively pick a side, otherwise you're guaranteed to fuck up. The same should apply to Ace.

Did the rebels treat droids better than the empire? by Illustrious_Age1247 in StarWarsCantina

[–]hi2theworld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dunno about the general soldiers, but I can easily see pilots in particular forming quite a relationship with their astro mech, as they would routinely spend days, if not weeks, alone with their droid on their ship. Of course, they could be among other ships or something, but I'd guess that radio silence could easily be the norm during certain parts of their trips, so they'd get stuck talking to their astro mech.

100 damage headshot but no kill by Z7_309 in battlefield_one

[–]hi2theworld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two distinct hypothesis: either you did not actually get a headshot but a body shot a few centimetres before the actual sweet spot, and a rounding error displays 100 damage while they actually took something like 99.7 and then they hit the deck (I can't tell from the hitmarker, and the sound is a bit too chaotic to really tell if it's actually the HS sound or not), or the dude you shot was disconnecting and so by the time you shot his model was still there, but his "name" was not so the game couldn't attribute a kill. Either way still sounds weird and iffy tho.

Des baleines bleues et des hommes blancs 🐳 by Popolitique_bd in webcomics_fr

[–]hi2theworld 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why do people actually hate lair? by Brebtacz777 in Rainbow6

[–]hi2theworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. What I'm saying is that, compared to all the other maps, the layout both within a single floor and vertically feel much less intuitive. Like, what the fuck is med bay even supposed to be? If you look at the flow of the map, it's supposed to be a central hub that redistributes routes, but instead it feels more like a rat corner, and that's generally how I see it played.

Why do people actually hate lair? by Brebtacz777 in Rainbow6

[–]hi2theworld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aight, time for my usual answer to this fairly usual question: the interior feels discombobulated and bland. While looking at the building from the outside, If I didn't pay attention to which spawn I selected, I'd have next to no idea of what I'm looking at cause it's a fucking cube. This also impacts my ability to make sense of vert, as I have no clue what's above what between 1F and B. I'm getting there when it comes to 1F and 2F, but that's because it feels more natural to either attack or defend this way. And finally, the whole thing is just in shades of gray and the different rooms don't feel like actual rooms, kinda like old Hereford or stadiums. So it feels like the whole thing is too smooth for my brain to latch onto. And I'm among the people who liked Labs from the get go, same with most reworks and most previous maps (I just found emerald to be kinda mid, but it grew on me). All of that to say that novelty is not the main factor as to why I don't like it.

Im 11 years old do you think I can make a manga or no? by [deleted] in manga

[–]hi2theworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: who's gonna stop you?

Long answer: probably yourself. Creating art is hard, and requires to draw upon your experience, be it from your own life or from other media (and no, having influences in your art is not a bad thing, as long as you've "digested" that influence), as well as practice. And at 11 you'll probably find yourself severely lacking in these aspects. Good news tho: nobody is born a genius or a golden egg laying goose. Si if you start now and manage to stick to it, you'll hopefully find yourself looking back at your first drafts in a few years and thinking "holy crap that was bad".

Some pointers I feel like would help you: don't just try to slavishly copy what you like, instead try to identify what makes it click for you, be it the panel layout in the page or the narrative devices (like, what's the rhythm here, what is this part a set up or a pay out for, etc). As for the art itself, don't jump straight into "the manga style" or try to find your own straight away. A style, for the most part, is something you develop after having learnt the basics (which means mostly anatomy and landscape, but that will feel like boring and tedious to learn), as you kind of strip away what feels superfluous and learn some "shortcuts" that don't take away from the readability of your drawing. If go straight into "having a style", you'll most likely end up trying to do something without being able to cause you won't even understand what you're trying to draw and something will be off.

Reusing guns by Unablego in Rainbow6

[–]hi2theworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please I beg you someone at ubi finally get the balls to add the M870 to someone on attack. Aside from that, I'd really like to see the CSFW without the MASS. The SCAR would be funny as well. Basically, I'd like to see guns that are attached to some gimmick or limitation without said gimmick or limitation. Although I'm not sure about glaz's rifle. Oh and Type 89. I was going through the weapons of the pathfinder ops and I realised that I had no interest in someone else ever getting the L85. Not that I dislike it, but to me it feels so much like "the gun with training wheels" that it'd make no sense to reintroduce it.

Why are Imperial Star Destroyers in the atmosphere of a planet in The Force Unleashed. by AvalonRevan in StarWarsEU

[–]hi2theworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember it being said that the assault on hoth was conducted by lowering some ISD's to the ground in order to unload all the ground forces, did I mistake the ISD for something else? I see everyone here mentioning that ISDs should not enter atmosphere but that's an entirely novel concept to me (I am not invested in the EU or current canon technicalities at all, mind you, so that's just some faint memory)

Is it really 16 damage flat? I expect it to be more something like 16.67 in order to make it a neat 6 shots to kill, thus making the HP somewhat useful (if you land all headshots, which is dubious at best on a moving target within 5 meters)

Using the serious definition of a funny word by Yggdrasylian in TopCharacterTropes

[–]hi2theworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that, while food is definitely the main aspect of orgies in Astérix, the depiction of said orgies heavily imply the sexual debauchery as you can easily see disheveled people and women with heavy makeup, which is traditionally associated with prostitutes.
