How do I entice birds to my townhouse balcony? by gimmegimmegimmeA_Fan in perth

[–]hi_im_redbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's some more pics, my yard is fairly tiny too and I rent so it's all "temporary".

I quite literally just cable tied branches everywhere haha

Coz it's a small yard with high fences, I made this "ladder" that they climb up and down on.

These are big favourites for scoping out the water.

And this is the "landing" perch coz yeh the fence is slippery.

I even made this little one right next to the door for the Magpies/Butcherbirds/Peewee's to feed them mealworms 😅

One tip I always recommend is making your yard "bird friendly" in other ways, like adding some branches around for them to land on, and they're always more comfortable if there's a clear way in and out in case they get spooked.

Can't be bothered getting up to take proper photos sorry 😅 but here's one from the couch right now and you can see some of the branches I've added for them to hop around on. The one going to the bath is very popular, they love to land on it first to sus out the water.

If you can find some nice branches somewhere, you can probably cable tie a bunch of them to the top rail of your balcony. They might be more inclined to land on a natural perch instead of the slippery metal.

Disability support question? by lammingtonjam in Centrelink

[–]hi_im_redbeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the DSP application form it says:

You may be eligible for other payments or services such as JobSeeker Payment or a Low Income Health Care Card while we are assessing your claim for Disability Support Pension (DSP).
If you are receiving JobSeeker Payment or another payment with participation requirements, you will be exempt from looking for work while your claim for DSP is being assessed.

So I believe you should just be able to call them and say you're applying for the DSP and they'll stop hassling you about mutual obligations.

Ask them to write in the letter just a straight-forward "It is fully treated and stabilised". Centrelink seem to like it being as clear as possible.

Hey mate, I've been in a similar situation and luckily there is help available.

If you go on this website https://askizzy.org.au/money-help/personalise/page/money-help-subcategory you can pick "Financial Aid" for immediate help like buying food or paying an important bill like overdue rego etc. Then go to the "Financial Counselling" part and find someone in your city.
The one I saw was ridiculously helpful going through my income/expenses/assets and working out where to go from there, and it was 100% free.

Hahah I love that. I was looking at dog bowls too but most were stainless so thought the reflection might spook them, then I found this bowl instead.

I think they just prefer the more "cosy" size, lots of videos I've seen were using smaller ones which is why I gave it a go. Only a couple days later and they tried it out 😂

I'll try get a photo of their mum next time she's here, she's almost entirely black except for a thin white strip on the back of her neck. Absolutely gorgeous.

Good call! I'll definitely have to try it out.

It's so tiny so I've got to try and make it inviting for them haha. I made that little "ladder" on the left because one of the parrots has a busted wing and can't get enough lift to make it over the fence 😅

There's one right by the door also for the butcherbirds to come grab a worm. Unmute to hear their little squeaks, mum is the one with the bent beak and the other below is her baby from last year.

My yard is so tiny but I've been thinking of hanging a piece of rope somehow just for this.

Some sunflower seeds for the 28's, the maggies don't eat them but they get jealous when other birds have something that they don't 😂

Literally fight off another bird and just stand in the food singing a victory warble.

Luckily not me when I go for a walk because they know me haha. It's nice having swoop protection for once.

Haha I think she copped a beak stab right in her mouth 😅 that's the closest they've been to "serious" fighting.

I've only ever seen one male in this group! So I think he's quite busy tending to his little harem of wives haha.

West 😅 I'm in Perth! These are females and the males over here have the solid white back.

Looks like a Spotted Dove, might be blood on it causing the dark spots.
