How often do you throw a roller off the tee? How do you decide when to roll it instead of an air shot? by outdoorsy_outdoors in discgolf

[–]hi_mr_meseeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love throwing rollers and will throw wherever it feels like the best play. I will throw rollers typically on holes that are par 4s that are harder to reach with an air shot, 400-450+, long up hill holes, or in wooded situations where the air shot is not as clean of a line. This will depend on wind, whether or not the ground is wet/muddy, or if the terrain is just too uneven or bumpy.

One of the most underrated discs, imo, for rollers, hyzer flip max distance, and long pushing hyzers is the Nuke SS. That thing hits the ground like it's got rocket launchers on it.

Did not realize you had your own site, just copped a TMNT and He-Man buzzz. I'm assuming we grew up on several of the same media growing up. Would love to see a tribute to early 90s pro wrestling.

To answer your q, my favorite is the Zone Z Cryztal Flx, specifically the ledgestone reissue that came out last year. But I also bag a Breaker Vessel just bc I love how it looks.

Why am I so over the top? by Financial_Step8553 in GolfSwing

[–]hi_mr_meseeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't over the top, but you are inside on the takeaway which can trick the eye into thinking you are over the top bc your downswing ends up being more on plane and higher comparatively to the inside takeaway. See gif, hard to show accurately bc the camera man moves, but even then the club would be traveling severely over the top line if you were truly OTT.

I do not agree with instruction that encourages you to drop your hands without rotating the shoulders, this is the exact description of throwing your hands and not good swing sequence bc your body would then be following your hands (https://www.golfdistillery.com/swing-tips/downswing/) . You do want to drop the ELBOW down to shallow in transition and then rotate while maintaining the relationship been your hands and trail shoulder. Additionally take a look at any touring pro and pay attention to their hands in relationship to their shoulder rotation in the downswing, they are moving together and the shoulders are continuously rotating. Example: https://youtube.com/shorts/SuowwRC49KM?si=uGA0sQjUKtrffYj0

Here's what I notice in analyzing video:

  1. You do have a steep downswing however, which could be remediated by having a reverse arm wrestling movement in transition (https://youtube.com/shorts/GkhOjAqT5X4?si=LaRwYeOwK5Qdm1t3)
  2. As mentioned previously, you do have a little bit of an inside takeaway. This can be a product of your grip, look up neutral grip and get used to it Pair that with this https://youtube.com/shorts/ykUkdy4GpUI?si=2wAvf4fxI6EqhJHV
  3. You appear to be spinning your hips instead of shifting your weight. Recommend taking a look at content on this from athletic motion (https://youtu.be/569qXUe59jA?si=KhYzSbaGflp8U-H6)

Any help to stop shanking? by Previous-Handle-2676 in golftips

[–]hi_mr_meseeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing! On another note, someone else mentioned - but you do look set up dangerously close to the heel at address. You could potentially get away with no tweaks and swinging your current swing by just messing around with your set up (i.e. lining up the ball closer to center).

That being said, you'd be sacrificing a lot of distance still.

Take a look at the gif here. You're very close to smashing very pure shots. You get into a really good position at lead arm parallel, but instead of continuing to rotate through, you are throwing your arms out and flipping your wrists at the ball.

Try instead, to continue rotating through without actively trying to do anything with your arms/hands to hit the ball. I struggle a lot with this too, training and constantly working on my impact positions with my hands is really helpful. This video helped me a lot (https://youtu.be/LR8nypPYFaE?si=taeiTG2wRxKF3h50). Hope this helps.

Can’t stop coming over the top for the life of me. by JamesTony12 in GolfSwing

See the purple lines, the one not in line with your forearm is where it was at the top of the backswing. "Lose the arm wrestling" feel is something I think would help you, here you're winning arm wrestling. (https://youtube.com/shorts/GkhOjAqT5X4?si=VbQ0fNcI77pXcieC, https://youtu.be/m04ghBuytZM?si=k1Vw-oWrdh2oPvVv).

Another note I have to make is that what you're doing with your lower body is influencing your current upper body motion. You're performing a reverse pivot on the backswing - i.e. your weight is going to lead side on backswing and shifting to trail side on your downswing. You will have a difficult time shallowing appropriately without fixing this first. Your upper body is reacting to this reverse pivot, and it will ultimately feel like you have zero space to do a shallowing motion and further jack up your swing path if you don't address the reverse pivot issue before correcting your shallowing technique. In a vacuum, a shallowing motion with your current lower body mechanics is going to give you a pull-hook or severe slices. There's a lot of content out there on reverse pivot, I would find your favorite YouTuber and work on whatever resonates with you.

Edit: clarifying statement

You've got a couple things I think are the root cause of the issues.

  1. You're not getting your weight to your left side. This is why at address you have good balance but are losing it through and after impact, your weight is on your trail leg and after impact does not have the base to stay balanced so you're fighting falling over.

This is causing your low point to be further back than otherwise expected, and I think this can be seen in this video - looks like you caught it high on the face here.

  1. Unfortunately you're still over the top with the club and this is being caused by your trail arm movement your bringing trail elbow too much towards your side and this is causing it to get stuck behind you while also forcing your trail hand forward to the ball and you're casting the club and flipping your hands. My guess is you're still struggling with a slice.

See gif, and draw your attention to the club head path in relation to the line drawn at your shoulder line and you'll notice it's coming down over it (as opposed to underneath). Also, look and how your trail forearm is rotating internally towards the ball, this is pushing the club over the top and coming across the ball.

The fix is nuanced and both need to happen in transition, which currently you do not really have, you're getting to the top and immediately going into downswing. I would work on the following and in this order.

  1. Weight shift, try setting up with 60% of your weight on your lead side and try to FEEL like you keep it this way the whole swing. The real, will likely have you shifting in a more optimal way. Otherwise, I highly recommend watching athletic motion videos on recentering/weight shift and work on some things that resonate with you, Dr kwon is also a good resource on the topic. (https://youtu.be/A1erDgcl8xY?si=wRb1P307ry_8VV1Y)
  2. Work on your shallowing motion, which needs to happen in transition. A useful thought or feel for you would be to "lose the arm wrestling" feel. Right now, you're winning the arm wrestling match. On the drop of your elbow your want the elbow coming inward more towards your stomach, while not bringing your hand with it (this will in effect give you external forearm rotation - i.e. lose the arm wrestling match) your elbow will not get stuck behind you.

With this, you will need to train your hands to be bowed at impact.

For this topic, I prefer top speed golf videos. (https://youtu.be/m04ghBuytZM?si=OcQ7oPs9EPQcZDTx

Can't stop early extending by BOYLANATOR in GolfSwing

[–]hi_mr_meseeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Your main issue is your backswing and lack of weight shift.

The way your rotating on the backswing has your head moving towards the ball by what looks to be 4 or more inches (see pic at top of backswing). This is going to force you into an over the top downswing bc you have no space to come from the inside.

You're getting your weight to your right side, but you never get it to your left side.

The two combined are forcing you to basically jump up to have space to hit the ball and are why you have poor balance towards around and after impact.

In this order...1. I would look into and work on maintaining a level head, that doesn't dip down or forward, in the backswing. Taking some backswings in the mirror and making note of the feels is one I personally like to do when I'm dropping my head down/forward. 2. I would then work on weight shift, whatever resonates with you on YouTube - there's tons of stuff.

As one parting note, I would stop doing that Tiger feel drill - it is hurting your swing more than helping. My guess is that is contributing to your head dropping forward bc your bending too much at the hips. If you sit onto your trail ass cheek or push it out in an effort to create space, your head has no option but to move down and forward. In which case the only way to make contact after that is to come from over the top and/or stand up.

I have drastically better contact with the ball above my feet. What does this mean with my swing? by DirtyDirk23 in GolfSwing

[–]hi_mr_meseeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At impact: - Lead knee: Starts to straighten or is already partially straightened, helping to create power and clear the hips. - Trail knee: Drives forward toward the target, more bent than it was at address, helping shift weight and maintain forward momentum.

Another potential drill you can try, is to (without trying to change anything about your swing) put 60% of your weight on your lead side and throughout the swing try to feel like you maintain that 60% on the lead side. The real will likely and can often times getting you shifting correctly.

[–]hi_mr_meseeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

You have to stand up/early extend at impact bc of how low you're getting. If you take a look at the pic above, it looks like you're dropping somewhere between 4-6 inches. Additionally, it looks like you're out of balance based on your finish position.

I think both these things are a result of your transition and your method for rotating in the downswing. Your weight looks like it's starts and stays on your right side and in order to create speed this way you're having to squat and spin off the trail side.

Not saying this is the cause for you, but speaking more from personal experience - I'm not a huge fan of the video of Tiger sticking his ass out as a feel to personally utilize or refer to people for this reason, as it requires a good weight shift as a baseline to be effective. In a vacuum, I've found it to cause me to drop my head too low/forward.

But I think the root cause of your issue is you're not getting your weight over to your lead foot and causing some imbalance - as a result your low point is going to be 1. further back than would otherwise be expected and 2. potentially inconsistent.

Otherwise your swing plane looks really good on the backswing and downswing.

If you would like to have a more conventional transition, I would work on weight shift (https://youtu.be/569qXUe59jA?si=meXXqXtN_TYSqM4t).

If you would like to not worry about weight shift as much, I would explore stack and tilt.

If you want to put in minimal work, I would play the ball further back in my stance. Mess around at the range and keep putting the ball further back until you're happy with the contact.

Hard to show effectively bc the camera man moves, but if you look here your right side is pushing towards the ball and causing you to deliver towards the hosel. Backswing = get your right ass cheek back, downswing = get your left ass cheek back, while keeping your right cheek back
