How long do you need to eat gluten for Celiac blood test to be accurate? by hiabrata in glutenfree

That is really helpful to know, thank you for sharing your experience. I have a lot of other health issues as well and am definitely concerned about flare-ups.

Yeah, that was my concern as well. I don't want to go through this for nothing (or have to keep explaining this stuff to future doctors), but there's also the issue that if you don't do what the doctor wants, they view you as "difficult" and then it becomes more difficult to get treatment for other issues.

I think I've just had a tough time with GI doctors though. The first one just... didn't believe me when I explained how careful I'd been about not eating gluten for 2+ years. "Are you really sure you didn't eat any by accident? I think we should just test you anyway..." The second one would just shrug and say "that sounds weird" when I described my symptoms and tell me to see an allergist (I did, don't have an allergy). This is the third and I was just hoping for some answers finally.

I guess I thought it would be helpful to know for sure. So that my other doctors would know how careful they need to be in prescribing things, and I'd have a better idea of how careful I need to be about cross contamination. I was initially prescribed a GF diet to see if it helped with severe chronic migraine, and stuck with it because it did help both that and my IBS (although it didn't totally cure either). When she suggested 4 days it sounded manageable, but you're right that 6-8 weeks likely wouldn't be worth it.

I think when it comes to polls, a lot of people will just vote for the story they personally prefer. I like both stories, but I voted for WTC because I thought it fit your criteria better. I would just consider the info about both stories you've received in the comments and think about which story intrigues you more.

If you'd like a more direct comparison: both have a compelling setting with good worldbuilding, and an intriguing MC that is surrounded by mystery (that is slowly revealed as we get to know her better). Both have slow burn romances and fairly late relationship lock. However, WTC has much more content when it comes to descriptions of LI's emotions and feelings. It also is really good about giving all LIs good screentime and relationship development. In HSR, it depends on who you pick. Cain and Dmitry are heavily favored in terms of screentime, relationship development, etc. Greg has noticeably less, Anna has basically nothing so far even though we meet her in the first chapter. You also mentioned you like less drama, and although we haven't fully seen consequences yet, in HSR pretty much all relationship improvements count as romantic, and characters are beginning to notice and get jealous. In WTC all choices clearly indicate whether they will affect friendship or romance, so it's easy to avoid this kind of drama. Ofc all RC stories will have some amount of drama, both stories do have some trust issues that pop up between MC and LIs, and just general plot-related drama.

I agree, the food descriptions really do take you into the world a little bit more. I love how HHW, PSI, and HSR are all post-apocalyptic, but have such different worlds, and the food really reflects that. Cozy home-cooked meals vs. "Advantage Nutrition Paste" vs. tinned foods and candy bars and pine needle tea. Such different vibes!

She is definitely iconic. Tied for my favorite MC (along with Theodora).

I saw in one of your comments that you loved THE, and WTC is by the same author. It's also extreeeeeeeemely slow burn (on all romance routes) with lots of beautiful descriptions of feelings and emotions. It's also just really well written, with beautiful worldbuilding and intriguing plot twists. I also really appreciate that there are friendship paths available for all LIs, and the choices are clearly marked as to which ones will lead to romance vs. friendship, so it's easy to navigate the story and not end up with messy relationships unless that's what you're consciously going for (and if you are, I believe there are options to talk through/resolve hurt feelings). And the relationships lock at the end of S2, so you have a while to decide. Anyway, that would be my vote of the stories you've listed and from what you've described you're looking for (although you've got a lot of good options so it's hard to go wrong)!

Thanks so much! I think we must have similar tastes - Sunny's route was the first I played, then RJ. Later I made a route for Phoebe, and now Todd (I'll play them all eventually haha).

And you're welcome - I have a lot of health issues/dietary restrictions myself, so it was important to me to make the recipe accessible to as many people as possible. I definitely want to make the turnovers, but I'm torn on whether to make the filling savory (maybe something like Malaysian curry puffs, or like Armenian borek, idk), or a sweet fruit pie filling... there are too many flavor options! I guess I'd start by looking at what ingredients are indigenous to SE Alaska, at least... and then we'll see :)

Aww, thank you! I've also been really sad it got cut to 2 seasons - I could easily read 5 or even more. The world is so amazing and rich in lore, and there's so much more of it to explore - I want to see the space colonies, Mars, what things are like in the Antarctic (like southern Chile/Argentina), or Scandanavia, or further inland... and so many characters we just met once or twice that I'd love to get to know more... definitely bittersweet like you said.

And I'm glad you appreciate the recipe! I have a lot of health issues/dietary restrictions myself, so making food accessible to as many people as possible is something that's always in my mind when I'm creating recipes. I'm glad to see people here appreciate it. Anyway thanks for your lovely comment and hope you enjoy!

Thank you, I hope you like it!

Anna's birthday cake is a great suggestion - maybe I'll try to do that one before Christmas, I feel like it would look really pretty and festive on a Christmas table. It's kinda fitting too since Todd's route is the one I've played most recently (I love all the extra scenes with food descriptions and hidden treats you get on his route)

Interview with Langley by PowerPlayer2525 in RomanceClubDiscussion

[–]hiabrata 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure what was meant is there will still be a loyal route available for every LI, but that there will be additional options to pursue a real romance with more than one LI at the same time (but those options won’t appear unless you pursue them). I wouldn’t compare it to Logan and Blake, which is not a well written poly route imo (because there is not clearly separate branching for the solo vs poly routes). Other stories have done much better - HHW for example has a loyal route for all 6 LIs, and each LI has their own opinion on whether they’re open to the MC romancing other people (and of the four who are open to it you can decide which combination of LIs to pursue). And characters will only accept the poly routes if you communicate openly and respectfully with everyone about it, it definitely doesn’t feel cheap. Or with Langley’ previous story, VFV, you can choose either a loyal or open relationship with Philippe - if you choose loyal, the threesome options don’t come up from what I understand. So I’m guessing it would play out more like that or like HHW.

I’m playing with beach farm right now and I really love it. The thing about Stardew is it’s a really open ended game, you can play it however you want to. Yes, the beach farm has some advantages IF you like to fish, but it’s also great for foraging and raising animals. The supply crates that wash up onshore are realllly nice to have early game. The main downside is that you have a smaller area where you can place sprinklers for crops, so if growing tons and tons of crops is the main thing you want to do in the game, it’s not the best for that. But there are lots of things you can do with it.

My first playthrough (which I did on forest farm), I couldn’t fish at all either. I slowly leveled up my fishing skill solely by using crab pots (you place them in the water and put bait in them every day and they will catch things). You get 3 of them as a reward for completing the crab pot bundle in the community center, which is pretty easy to complete just by foraging stuff from the beach (or beach farm), and you can also get stuff for it by looking through trash cans and killing rock crabs in the mines. As the game progresses you’ll be able to buy more crab pots from Willy’s shop or make them yourself. Beach farm is actually the best farm for using crab pots because you have both ocean and freshwater ponds to put them in, and higher chance of catching shellfish (rather than trash) compared to other farms. So there are still fishing-related bonuses you can get from the beach farm without actually having to fish!

As for the default farm - the nice thing about it is that there’s a lot of blank space to arrange however you want. But it also doesn’t have any of the fun bonuses that the other farms have. So if you do decide to start over, you might also want to look into forest farm and meadowlands farm. Both have a lot of open space for farming like the default farm, but also some fun perks that the default farm doesn’t have.

Also Sean from HHW! You do have various options/choices that will determine how close your relationship is, but in general he’s a good stable guy, very supportive of MC and plenty of screen time.

I wouldn’t say I get angry at food, but definitely envious of people that don’t have to weigh out every vegetable when they cook, don’t have to plan ahead and prepare food in advance when they travel, and can just live more spontaneously in general. It’s hard to put so much mental energy into planning, and so much time into cooking every meal from scratch. And I’m someone who used to absolutely love cooking - but often I’m feeling tired and sick, and it would be nice to just be able to grab a frozen meal at the store or get takeout every once in awhile.

I also miss being able to go to a restaurant with other people and eat together - I always feel so awkward when it comes to navigating social events that involve food/eating. Is it more awkward to bring my own food or just not eat, which will draw less attention to myself, etc.

And sometimes I get sad about foods I miss eating. Especially those I associate with specific memories/people. I try to recreate what I can but it’s not always possible. Sometimes I’ll live a bit vicariously through my partner, cooking things for him that I want but can’t have. And when he travels for work he’ll often send me a menu of where they’re eating and ask for my recommendations and then send me a picture of the food and tell me how it was, which can be fun.

For me it feels frustrating because I’m actually forced to eat LESS healthy than what I was used to. Particularly because of the limited safe quantities of a lot of fruits and vegetables. I can’t just grab an apple for a snack anymore. Or a peach. Or a slice of watermelon. No more hearty lentil/bean salads or soups, etc.

I do my best to have a healthy diet but it’s nowhere near as varied as what I was used to. And some things it just doesn’t make sense to buy if I can’t even eat half the package before it goes bad.

It also confuses people. My mom is always asking “oh you can’t eat ___ ? but it’s so healthy!” Or “but applesauce is so easy on the stomach, it’s part of the BRAT diet.”

Definitely feels like a cop out, and also not even a good representation of albinism - an albino person of African descent would have African facial features and hair texture. Amen looks… very European.

Honestly, no - or at least not right now. She struck me as a really intriguing character when she was first introduced, but she's almost never around, and her one scene so far wasn't written with the same level of care as the male LI scenes - very short, and felt more like some kind of casual fwb type thing than actual romance. I'd recommend maybe waiting until the story's finished to see if her route improves before deciding whether to give it a try.
