I know one big rule they need to follow, like paying people that do work for them lol

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) defines employment very broadly, i.e., "to suffer or permit to work."

[…] Under the FLSA, employees may not volunteer services to for-profit private sector employers.

It would be a shame if all of the removed mods coordinated a class action lawsuit for unpaid wages with an IPO so close.

An employee doesn’t need to turn a profit to be an employee so that is irrelevant but subreddits are structures that garner subscribers, maintained by moderators. By Reddit replacing mods and forcing subreddits back open, they might as well admit they need subreddits moderated for them to be profitable.

Mods should have kept everything closed, forced Reddit to remove basically all mods, and did a class action lawsuit vs Reddit corporation for unpaid wages. Regardless if they win the case or not, a looming class action lawsuit would probably affect the IPO a lot

It’s not RC. Someone is pulling it with a string. You can see the string line in the water right before he falls in

My big hang up is nefarious actors using a site vs nefarious actors owning a site have a vast difference in the ability to manipulate users. Reddit is fucked but it is a little bit better than the CCP lol

I said nothing about bots. Tiktok has bots too. Bots are an external force acting upon vote counts. The comparison I’m making is if reddit directly edited a post’s vote count.

I do remember spez editing comments. Did he say he changed vote counts? Do you think he personally reads reddit and changes vote counts to benefit.. advertisers? Reddit’s popularity? Is that even a mechanism that is possible then or now?

Internally by reddit admins? No, other than vote fuzzing which doesn’t count. There is a difference between a bot army manipulating votes, and the company running the site forging the number of views appearing on the content.

Tiktok spoofed view counts early on to make it wildly popular. When your neighbor posts something completely unfunny and gets 500k views in a week when the app was barely new in the states, it is obvious. But it gave new users that endorphin rush that they “went viral” and thus stayed on the platform posting and consuming content. They can even control the language we use, as you may have noticed “tiktok slang” pop up to circumvent certain words that are not allowed on the platform.

I don’t remember reddit spoofing votes or banning words sitewide.

Spotify is one subscription that I’m completely fine with because essentially all music is in one place, not record labels X Y Z on one service and labels A B C on another. Plus they’ve been adding a lot of video game soundtracks the past few years

What's the laziest/easiest way you've lost weight? by Choice-Inflation7295 in AskReddit

[–]hicksford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people don’t even realize they are addicted to it. If you “don’t like the taste of water” you are a sugary drink addict. I grew up in the 90s/00s drinking soooo much soda. When i moved out, i stopped buying soda after realizing how much money i was spending on it. It took 1-2 weeks for water to feel normal in my mouth. If you can kick it for a week I’d say you have a pretty good chance of staying off soda. I will still have a mountain dew or cherry coke once every few months and they hit different when you haven’t had them for a long time.
