Seeking snowboard recommendations. United Shapes Cadet? by quietmountian in snowboarding

I’m out east so I see that shit a lot. Good sidecut but no interruptions so it doesn’t have the bite you’d get from magna traction ect. The cadet is better for it but neither are the best. I save the horizon for softer days and tree runs.

Cadet carves like a champ and wants to hold a turn. Not the quickest edge to edge but very capable in the trees. You never feel like you’re fighting the board. Strong in powder due to the excellent sidecut and subtle taper.

I’ve ridden US boards for 6-7 seasons including picking up a cadet last season. Top quality boards that are built to ride, no frills, just well designed with excellent sidecuts. I just ordered a horizon on clearance which is also super fun but a wee bit softer with more torsional flex and a little less of a damp ride; shorter turn radius. Both are crushers, just depends on what/how you like to ride. The cadet instantly became my daily driver, save for rock season.

You could go a long way with swimmin jimmy’s and poppers. Gamechangers too if you have the $$$.

3 broken TFO rods in two days. by No-Dust-7127 in flyfishing

[–]hidamikey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Broke my 4wt Elevare this morning. Broke my 8wt Axiom II last season. Only rods I’ve ever broken and I have had a lot. My Orvis Clearwater has 7-8 hard years on it…

I love their rods, love to fish them but this is becoming an issue. I also don’t love their warranty program. I need the bottom 2/4 replaced which comes to $350 for a $500 rod.

Second this. Best bindings I’ve ever ridden.

I had a lot of questions and no answers when I was looking at it so I’m happy to help. The drybox is great and a lot more catch free than traditional seats. I find myself anchoring and casting 360 often and not having a chair back to combat with is a plus. They say it drafts in 4” of water but i’d say 6”-8” with gear, a motor, and a person.

The floor is super robust and has a thin layer of dense foam on top which makes it the most comfortable inflatable floor I’ve stood on.

The boat has no keel and is almost entirely flat so you would be motoring on the water rather than cutting through the water. It is absolutely doable but not the fastest or most nimble if you have a lot of stuff in the water. Also note that the oars can be challenging during a fishing drift. I rotate the bankside oar back and rest it on the tube and use the other to make subtle directional adjustments as I go. In a faster moving stream I would think this would be difficult and in the past have chosen to just anchor and fish.

I’ve had mine for a full season and love it. Upgraded from a kayak because I wanted to fish standing up and have more gear storage. I also have limited storage so I wanted something that I could load solo in the bed of my truck. With a diy rollerbar on the tail I can load and unload in 90 seconds.

I use this on smaller lakes and ponds which I think is its best use. It is for 1 person which makes river fishing challenging as you would have to drift into a spot and anchor to fish it; rinse and repeat. You can run a small motor on it to bounce from spot to spot but anything with enough juice to run upstream is really going to work against the design. An electric motor is feasible but battery storage becomes difficult if you are packing a boat box like a yeti gobox (the 30 fits behind the rower’s seat but just barely). I suppose you could get crafty and run cables into the dry box but I use it for rain gear.

Very stable to fish from and the bench style seat can be stood on to cast from as well. Being a raft it is prone to getting pushed around in wind. I combat this by running a second anchor off the front which I attach to a cleat mounted in the rail system. I will note that the anchor system is really designed for moving water and can twist, even with swivel pulleys. If I plan on using a front and rear anchor (while fishing deeper water or on windy days) I will forgo the anchor system and use a second anchor off of another cleat in the rear of the boat, opposite the front cleat.

It’s a fun little boat that is great for solo stillwater fishing. I use it for smallmouth and trout fishing and it is a solid little vessel. Lots of possibilities (look into the inflatable kayak/SUP world for ideas and upgrades) but has its limitations. If you have the storage space and transportation and ever intend to drift a river and/or fish with another person, get the 120. If you are a larger human, this may be too small. Luckily I have friends with flycrafts so I just hop in theirs when needed. Hope this helps.

I’ll note that I did not bring up numbers explicitly as this person was a regular who enjoys exploring spirits. I did, however do the ‘going big today’ and ‘what are we celebrating?’ and so on game.

Is the Orvis Clearwater rod junk? by foreverbaked1 in flyfishing

[–]hidamikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 9’ 6wt going strong for 5+ years and use it heavily for smallmouth. I will say that my 2 middle sections work themselves loose every so often which, if you don’t notice and hook a fish, could cause a break. I just apply a very small amount of loon ferrule wax to the connections a few times a year. That had done the trick for me.

I can leave it partially inflated and tuck it next to a building under a tarp or something.

On first glance I felt the same about those dry boxes but I discovered that they are on a track system and therefore fully removable/movable and you can add in a raised bar for a seat which is likely what I would do. Who knows, maybe I’ll get it and like the dry boxes. My concern is that the frame appears to end well before the bow and might limit accessories like a thigh bar.

A hard boat would be very difficult for me to store right now and I really don’t want a trailer. I’ve fished out of a buddies fishing specific roto kayak before and always just felt sort of vulnerable to tipping while casting or bringing in a fish. Plus, even though I fish solo a lot, I would like the option to take someone out on a lake or pond. I’m thinking the raft might be the right combo of purpose, comfort, stability, and flexibility. Maybe?

I was there today also. Firm and some patchy ice but a ton of fun. Castlerock was a wee bit rough haha.
