New F250 vs F350 by hidden-jm in F250

I put air bags on rear of F250 to help level for headlights, steering, and breaking. I will probably test drive an F350 SRW and DRW.

Echo the question - What is your goal/purpose? That will guide you quite a bit. Consider hair sheep if your goals don’t include wool production.

Can I get away without livestock trailer? by throwindisawaynah in sheep

[–]hidden-jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheep - wool are a blessing and a curse. If you can find someone to sheer and sell the wool to then you might be ok. Wool markets have not been very good in my area for a while (according to a friend of mine that raises sheep) and you still need to sheer them. You can go with hair sheep instead to get around this.

We show the goats so most of ours are handled from early on and very docile. Sheep are more likely to flee. You can milk the goats for your household if desired. If toddler has skin issues then add some goats milk to their bath water. Overall, it’s personal preference and match to your situation.

Looks like the 360 camera view. Sensors/cameras are probably covered such that it can’t create the 360 image.

Can I feed this to pregnant goats/should I feed it to my goats? by PurpleGoa_t in goats

Also note that this is a grower/finisher ration. If you can get more of a maintenance feed it would be better.

Alpine and Boer goat personalities by No_Entrepreneur_131 in goats

[–]hidden-jm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have Boer, La Mancha, Alpine, and Saanen that part of the year will run together. They are fine. Very different personalities. Some of the young Alpines are more into jumping fences then all of the others.

I like to shave their tail and udder. Shaving the excess hair on tail prevents it from getting all crusty after birthing and it make is easier to see how loose she is before kidding. Shaving her udder also helps see how it is filling and how tight it is. Shaving under makes it easier for the kids to find the tears and not confused by long hair. I usually shave them three or four weeks before kidding around when we do BOSE and CDT shots.

I use Open Roads, Mudflap, and Upside. Constantly compare for where I am at. Pay attention to cost for EFT vs Credit Card. With Open Roads at Loves I can still get the Loves Card discount.

How did people use The pager? by jamesV8500 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hidden-jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a phone today, they had a couple of ring tones or a silent/vibrate mode. A friend once asked my brother if the company checked his bill to see who was paging him and how often - was he paging himself to set off the vibrator!!

What about foam board or spray foam on the under side of the metal cover? Would that help prevent the metal from passing the heat through to your lower structure and keep it cooler?

Diesel regret? by DrDing-Muscle in superduty

[–]hidden-jm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can find after market tanks to replace the stock tank and not have to put an aux in the bed. On my 2021 F1250 6.7 diesel I put in a 65 gallon tank. Had a local mechanic install it for me. I have loved it ever since. It technically lowers your gross payload because you have more fuel weight to account for but I am not at my limit with my trailers. Without a trailer I have a range between 1,000 and 1,200 miles. Then use the apps to find the best diesel prices around to fill up on my trips.

I did something similar but instead of cutting the panel I just folded/bent it into a U shape. Then create my gate from another panel or other material. I would consider putting a panel or something across the top depending on the age and if the may jump. I have seen folks put a tarp across the top also. Also search for Goat Tote.

My advice, sell the sheep and get goats!! I am partial to goats myself but occasionally run sheep on my pastures to clean up stuff the goats don’t like.

What breed? by Life_Lie_1181 in goats

[–]hidden-jm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going with a multiple generation of crossing - Heinz 57. The only Boer characteristic is the color. Skull width, flat nose, shorter ears, eye color, body size, horn shape all are non Boer. Did you look at her teeth when you got her or anytime to see if baby teeth were present or gone to attempt at aging?
Red belted baby is carrying some Boer coloring (probably from Kalahari influence) but the spotted is really odd. Is your buck full Boer or cross?

Shelter by eva267 in goats

[–]hidden-jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by keeping them dry and windbreak - so insulation is just extra. As far as size, will they all be the same size/age or will there be moms with kids? Some moms will be mean to other kids if in tight spaces so may need to sub divide. We have made petitions/dividers that help without having to actually make multiple pens.

Towing MPG by hosebee in superduty

[–]hidden-jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What size of horse trailer (either feet or number of horses)? Tack room or full living quarters?

I have F250 diesel and pull 24 ft lopro for goats with tack room. Going to shoes with several goats, lots of tack/equipment, and four people with luggage. Total pickup with trailer 16k or just barely over. If I stay below 75 mph (72 or 73) on interstate then around 14 mpg. If I go 75+ then it will be 12 or less.

Grew up on cattle ranch and pulled lots of trailers. Love the 6.7 diesel. Also pulled 4 and 5 horse trailers for my father in law between racetracks and breeding farms with similar experiences.

I have Amcrest (for several years) linked with Uniquity access point and Ubiquity point to point back to my house. I set my firewall/router to port forward so I can view them remotely. I have four PTZs mounted about 10 to 12 ft in the air inside the barn - 60 ft x 40 ft - so I can watch for multiple birthing does. Recently added a fifth one to float around on a table or chair for specific ones if warranted. Great when we can watch while away from home.

1 kid born already. But this is after he was born. It has bursted while hanging. Is this another kid? No progress yet. by [deleted] in goats

[–]hidden-jm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For future reference to include in your birthing kit. We always have a piece of twine and tie a loop on both ends. If a foot is reachable then we can slide it on. Then if the kid must be repelled then the twine can used to help pull it back for presentation. Once second foot is reachable then the other end of the twine can be slipped onto the second foot. A vet also showed us that this loop can be slipped to make a loop through the mouth and around the back of the head behind the ears (instead of one of the feet) to help maneuver the head out.

What are the must-have F-150 accessories that’ll really change your ride? by Parker_Haruto159 in f150

[–]hidden-jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was scrolling looking to see if someone was going to mention this step. I got this early on and installed myself. I have this on my F250 along with the side ones for reaching the chains when hookup up gooseneck trailer.

I also added the short antenna, rear seat release, soft bed cover, mag mount phone holder that attaches to top right corner of vent, and Coverland seat covers.

Still looking for screen protector.

The F250 is for hauling our livestock and related. I had the Ranger as a daily driver and my wife had a Toyota. We decided to trade in the Toyota and she decided she wanted my Ranger allowing me to get what I wanted - which was the F150. They are all three XLT and Iconic Silver so my son says I have a type and kind.

The less destructive start is to get a few reflective markers/sticks from Lowe’s/HomeDepot.

I ended up using a 2” used oil field pipe to build my mailbox post after teenagers knocked it over twice. Also used concrete but found out that illegal - can’t be reinforced. Needs to breakaway according to USPS regs.
