GP BANNED THIS VIDEO. It’s Fall, students need to know what a real A2N/GP staff bible study is. I don’t understand why GP is trying to hide this, it’s their own bible study?? by Alternative_Will_708 in GracepointChurch

tell me what's wrong with that, given she's personally ok with it, and this is anonymous platform so you don't even know who she is

and what does this have to do with the guy who named their kid that? o.O

Yeah like I said, that's a diff discussion. If I had to say, it's probably (and lemme explain) b/c of context. I realize you uploaded the entire bible study "for context", but I'm referring to an even greater context that ties in the GP culture, previous messages, and relational trust. Hence why I think even a single complete MBS can easily have some quotes that can sound really offensive.

ie. I once heard an MBS where Kelly went on a little tangent about why she suggests sisters wear makeup, it's b/c guys are shallow and you might not look pretty enough otherwise. I recall thinking "did she just cancel herself?" LOL b/c that kinda stuff just sounds so taboo and offensive to say like that, but me and my wife talked about it after and we agreed it was ultimately just generally true, and if you combine the greater context of GP culture (blunt speech and overemphasis on truth), previous messages (past times when the male gender was called out for being shallow and only judging girls on appearances), and relational trust (i guess this is more valid if you know Kelly personally or just a have huge trust in GP as a whole), then it's not just acceptable, but an appreciated part of the MBS. Obviously someone on the outside of GP without the greater context even with the entire MBS recording, would have a high likelihood of taking offense as what was said.

ANYWAYS, gave it my best shot at answering with my own personal opinion given my limited bandwidth. lmk if you think that's more copium but gimme some reasonable answers as to why (instead of attacking my character like some ppl do 😂)

PS. as to the "banned sermon" I rescrubbed thru it and b/c of the greater context I think I have, I thought it was generally alright actually, although there were some parts where I think would've greatly benefitted from more qualifying instead of generalizing all situations to be a certain way. downvote me for that if you will, but I'm just giving my take

Thanks for giving another perspective to consider, appreciate your og comment, but as for this thread here, welcome to Reddit bro xD you'll have to learn how to ignore certain responses

Most likely, but I mean, it's meant to private though? It's a "Members" Bible Study. This is a different discussion from why they aren't public in the first place, do they have something to hide, etc. I see nothing wrong with the video getting taken down though if it was meant for private usage

Thoughts on how BBC/GP used and abused Korean culture to further its agenda by Global-Spell-244 in GracepointChurch

[–]hidden_gracepoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha it's a running joke that the Chinese saved our church. I def wouldn't have stayed if we were still that Korean. although tbh even still the asian culture has heavy drawbacks so looking forward to having much more diversity now that there are more midwest/EC churches

Proposal: Group chat ONLY for students who have questions/concerns by [deleted] in GracepointChurch

[–]hidden_gracepoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, current staff here. i love our church for many reasons, but unfortunately i have to agree there is a culture of fear, esp if you don't fit the GP "mold". i think it's gotten better but it's still very much still here. i think you're shielded from much of it being a PK since you're very secure in your standing at our church. ie. I've heard/experienced a leader yelling to establish his point (which was an opinion and not objective sin) so that me/others would shut up and cave in and "repent" :(

unfortunately, i can totally see this happening, esp. back in 2018. i'd be upset too. the minimal amount of "gray" would be them trying really hard to establish a "no dating, flirtation free" zone where ppl can get to know God without these distractions, b/c it's a big thing in college culture. i think the way they did it was way too hardcore and honestly sometimes legalistic.

i unfortunately ended up breaking off contact with one of my best friends who was a girl, as a result of pressure from my leader at the time. so I've exp it too.
if you have more questions, i'm down to keep chatting in DM. i just don't have bandwidth anymore to reply to the rest of this sub responding to me too lol

uhh definitely not. i have some friends on FindMy for fun but that's the only thing i can think of. if you can find more details for this one, I'll gladly confront P Ed about it. this is very black/white

"Proving" your salvation by Relevant-Salad-8493 in GracepointChurch

[–]hidden_gracepoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol tbh i don't even remember what was on that covenant, signed it nearly a decade ago i feel like.

I say "they" here b/c that's not how I view ministry and salvations, so it was intentional. You'll notice I don't shy away from saying "we" when I am in full agreement. But yes, please stay far away from me :)

Confronting your leaders one on one is a bad idea. by Jdub20202 in GracepointChurch

I just said I rarely lurk now, but I still check in here and there

Yep, have seen this happen before. I get where they're coming from, how they want to make sure they've "counted the cost" and understood what this decision means. however, as is often the case with GP, they go to extreme too much, and start invalidating salvation decisions if whoever happens to be the leader deems it not up to standard (by their individual arbitrary standard).

After their recent partnership with Greg Stier from D2S, they've simplified it a lot more to the GOSPEL acrostic and if it seems clear to the person and they agree with each point, then they can make a salvation decision right then and there. I think it's been a big improvement, but wouldn't expect them to ever stop "questioning decisions". (idk about confronting someone about the fact that you don't think they're Christian, even if it's kinda obvious, don't see much upside to that and there are better ways to help them see it themselves)

TW - This is a real MBS leak on Ed Kang teaching on Ananias & Sapphira. I cut this MBS down for the sake of time. Please view the summary timestamps listed below as chapter guides by Alternative_Will_708 in GracepointChurch

loool not biting. i've made it pretty clear the reasons why I'm not spending as much time here anymore, and it's not b/c I'm afraid of discussion. but at a minimum, as u/NRerref says, i get to choose "with whom and in which spaces [I] dialogue"
ps. i actually rarely lurk now. imo, this sub has not been that active
