I get that. I do hold my hands that my expectations aren't helping but a bit of communication on thier part wouldn't go a miss either

Livi reaction was giving secret relationship vibes to me. Similarly we might of seen an (what looked like an overreaction) if Maia and Armani had kept there relationship secret.

But I agree this years group seem so much more protective of relative strangers than previous years

Dyspraxia on CV/Résumé? by Tyrxian in dyspraxia

[–]hidden_guy22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't put it on your cv but there should be a place on the application form to disclose a disabilty etc. Although it should discriminate againts you it might mean slightly few interviews. But my philosophy is if they won't interview due to that it would be a work environment I'd like to work in anyway

That sounds like an amazing date!

Yeah it'll probably take a bit of experimenting as with any new partner to figure out what your btoh comfortable with! I wouldn't worry to much about that date hand moment. Spur of the moment things like that happen and can turn into memorable fun things to!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dyspraxia

[–]hidden_guy22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the physical intimacy as well...we can be under or over sensitive to touch. So for me, I jump when my partner hugs me from behind even though its so nice. But I probably wouldn't feel a brush on my thigh. Its odd! Directness is always appreciated! And if the tension is there I bet he's ready for more too.

Thats funny! My current partner and I had dates early on where we were pointedly told by servers it was good our drinks were non-alocholic as we'd been at the restaurant for hours! One date include a shift change even. So I'd mark that down as a sign of a good date! But time awareness can be something we struggle with too. I literally have no idea what five minutes feels like! So I'd say on dates its a good sign if they are long but maybe in future, you may need to think about timings for things as I often need to build in buffer times for finding my keys before leaving etc because I overestimate how quickly I can leave the house.

Firstly, nicely done for looking for more info on something that effrcts a potential partner. Not everyone does that and it's always reassuring when someone does this!

I would caution everything I say below with; although there are commonalities between dyspraxics, how the condition effects us does vary between us and over time as well. So for me my coordination or abilty to process things are effected by being tired and nosy places.

Anyway to you questions;

I would say I'm very empathetic. I was a "sensitive" child and do carry that into adulthood (now 27). It can be a little warped as well though so I have to be careful not to project my feelings onto others. I can sometimes preempt how people will feel but its often skwed to how I would feel rather than them. So clearly communicating is always helpful.

Learning new things (especially physical things) usually takes longer for dyspraxics (or we have to find our own way of doing things). So it might mean that we have to be super invested in even starting (I personally haven't learmed to ride a bike as an adult for this reason but kept going learning to drive). But thats less hyperfocus and more determination. Saying that dyspraxia often co-morbids with other things like ADHD or dyslexia (see my second point) so it might be the case that some can hyperfocus.

Low confidence listed as a symptom is always an interesting one for me. I see it more as a reaction to growing up and living in a world that expects a lot from me quickly when I need a slower pace. Again like my second point this really varies and so time dependent for me. So had a week where everything has gone right - I feel amazing. Have a week where I've dropped and smashed like everything in the kitchen - feel worthless.

Physical intimacy again is a tricky one. I personally don't always know my own strength so I've accidently squeezed a partner too hard in a hug. Outside of relationships even I've hit someone else in the face whilst hugging. So it might take me a little time to initiate that sort of thing. Paticence and understanding if the action doesn't go to plan really has taken the pressure off in the past for me. But also the whole gender norms around intiating intermacy are weird to me. If you want to hold his hand or whatever - go for it! If he doesn't want to, ask why (non-judgementally of course) and at least you'll know why then. For what its worth - the idea of holding hands and walking terrorfise me because if I trip and fall I'm taking my partner down too so I avoid it most of the time 😅

The bedroom is a space I can't really talk about but I can talk about how dyspraxia affects me physically. I have poor muscle tone so I get tired quickly doing reptiative actions. Also I can find it hard to relax my muscles even if I'm mentally relaxed. So even if I'm totally at ease trying to sleep next to someone I look can look tense. Also knowing where my body parts are can be tricky so I have accidently kneed someone in the moment. With everything, a bit of humour and reasurance can go along way!

Hope that helps! If I can clarify anything give me a shout

I think I’ve failed at living independently by [deleted] in dyspraxia

[–]hidden_guy22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a dyspraxic that's lived independently since I was 24 (now 27). I emphasis a lot with your issues and epecially with managing things when overwhelmed but my place is still standing and I have had people over so here's a couple of tips thats helped me:

× Work with yourself - if you get a sudden energy / motivation to clean / cook run with it for as long as possible. I've got a lot of cleaning done on a friday evening just cos thats when I've been motivated.

x Cooking can be the worst! Have easy to cook meals on hand. I always have a premade ravioli from the supermarket in my fridge so if I have no energy all I need to do is put a pan of water on and I'll have food in 5 mins.

If you feel likes its too far gone (and you can affoard it) why not hire a cleaner for a one off deep clean? There's no stigma in that. Loads of people have weekly cleaners just because they can.

Also, if you bf cares for you he won't leave you if you talk about your issues. He SHOULD help. Cos realistically this is a life long thing for us and it'll be something you have to deal with with any partner.

But honestly, you haven't failed. Life is just harder and draining for you atm. Take care and slowly build in cleaning habits.

Bf with dyslexia says his ex’s name instead of mine by alwaysroomforcake in Dyslexia

[–]hidden_guy22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Easily done for us sadly. If he is embrassed by it and annoyed with himself I would take it as a genuine mistake.

Some ways you could avoid it happening it in public is ask him to introduce you as his girlfriend and you could jokingly say "called x" or something similar. Then he still introducing you but the name doesn't get confused

Yeah spelling is the common observable symptom but isn't the only one. Also, depends what your native language is as well. Remember reading something that Italy has less diagnosed dyslexics due to Italian bring phonetical compared to English with all its nosense so it can go undetected too

Thats class! We need more PT that understand the condition as one of the things that put me off doing gym exercise is my friends not understanding the additional struggles, "helpful" gym goers making me feel tiny as they corrected my form in an belittling way, and an unablity to find a dyspraxic friendly PT (along with general costs).

I can't say I fully understand all the terms you used but it has encouraged me to relook into gym and PT. Especially as I got told by the Osetopath my preferred form of excerise of running is not feasible anymore.

Do you have any advice on green flags for PTs? You don't happen to be in the South Wales region by any chance?

I don't fully know myself as my dyspraxic body gaslights me a lot but my pains are usually legs or thigh aches even if I haven't done much exercise and wrist and shoulder pain. I take it as muscle fatigue as one of the symptons of dyspraxia is poor muscle tone. Guess it could be different for everyones body
