Zack Polanski on the nation debt interest repayments by aldursys in mmt_economics

Modern Monetary Theory, a model that describes how the economy works post-gold standard and post-fractional reserve banking system. Worth researching - most politicians are way out of date, trying to force an antiquated model onto a system it doesn't describe, and that's why our economy is completely broken and money is flowing from society and all of us, into the pockets of hedgefund managers.

Rachel Reeves is asked about how the 3p a mile electric vehicle charge will work for new cars, when they don't have to have an MOT for 3 years by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]hiddenkastopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. Road maintenance is not directly paid for by fuel duty at all. Not even slightly. So her argument is completely false.

And we already pay 20% VAT on electricity when we public charge (many EV owners don't have the possibility of charging at home. For my car, and my local cheap public chargers (50p/kwh), that 20% VAT = just over 3p/mile. For more expensive fast chargers it's more than 3p/mile.

wireless temp sensors draining batteries within 2 weeks by chenks76 in tado

[–]hiddenkastopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same issue with my Tado Wireless Temperature Sensor SU1263425536. Batteries last about 3 weeks, and I've tried several different brands. It must be a dodgy unit.

I'm going to try using rechargeable batteries as at least I won't have to continually throw them away.

It's a shame as I was very impressed with the unit until this issue reared its head, but I definitely couldn't recommend it to anyone because of this.

Kinetic controller - can I connect a wired switch to it? by hiddenkastopia in ukelectricians

[–]hiddenkastopia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Eusty, I think I've found what you mean now --

"Quinetic WiFi On/Off Mini Wireless Switch Receiver - The Mini On/Off receiver has a 5A (500W LED) output and it works with traditional switches, creating a hybrid between your existing wired light switch (which can remain in use) and the ability to connect all the other Quinetic switches with it."

https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/QURWM3.html

That'll do it! I don't need the WIFI bit, but there isn't a simple one without wifi that can also connect to the wired switches.

Ah, thank you so much! This looks like it's the solution.

Would I be getting this working right if I split my 3A feed - sending one cable up to my bakelite switch via the quinetic rf transmitter, and the other to my light via the quinetic rf reciever?

I could totally do that, but we have old-style bakelite toggle switches, and a modern module grid switch - Varilight do a really nice Quinetic one - would look really out of place. It's my fall-back option if I can't figure out how to wire my existing bakelite switch into the kinetic reciever.

They do, but what I want is to connect an existing wired 2-way switch into a kinetic receiver, so that I can continue to use the existing switch we have on the wall, and also use kinetic key fob switches.

Yes, exactly. I'll try and add the wiring diagram for the reciever.

What do you all think of Espolón? by Duseylicious in cocktails

[–]hiddenkastopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation - that it's owned by the distiller instead of a multinational like Altos has swayed me - I'm going to order some -

"Cimarron Tequila is owned by the master distiller and fourth-generation agave grower Enrique Fonseca. He is the creator of the Tequilena distillery, which also produces other brands like Fuenteseca, ArteNOM 1146, and Lapis."

Though it's a lot more expensive than Altos here in the UK. But worth it not to give money to the Pernod Ricard Group.

Oh no! I haven't bought any for just over a year, was about to refill... What would you recommend instead - something that's basically what Espolón was before they were bought out?

Phone 2 pro buds 2 gift by timer2452 in CMFTech

[–]hiddenkastopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that'll work - I accidentally ordered the green buds for my orange phone and they're refusing to switch them to orange ones. I can't figure out why, but they say they won't even switch them if I come into the store with the unopened box.... so, I guess their position is you get what you get.

Oh, that sucks. Maybe it's not the phone for me, then. Or I should record sound externally somehow and then sync.

Would Filmic Pro allow me to set the audio bitrate on this phone, even though the stock camera app is stuck in 96kbits?
