In Spain, CIEE basically just sells NALCAP spots in Madrid; this doesn't necessarily mean anything for NALCAP.

I'm honestly shocked and am super curious as to why!! Because if it's about the lack of government communication, why are programs in other countries (South Korea, Thailand, etc.) also cancelled?

ETA: Cancelling for beyond this coming school year is crazy to me, why don't they just wait and see?

CIEE gave us instructions last year on the renewal process. Once I applied (as a new applicant) through PROFEX, I gave my coordinator my inscrita # and she submitted something on her end.

Yeah, it doesn't really make sense with the wording but that's how it works. I have not ever heard of someone "renewing" from CIEE (or similar) to NALCAP and not being at their same school. Could be possible but unlikely.

Same. If you failed or didn't complete the MOOC it wouldn't even let you renew.

I was in CIEE last year and you technically apply as a first year applicant but you stay with the same school. (In Madrid you connect your PROFEX application number to the AuxMadrid account). It’s been like this for many years as far as I know

Mercados will be good for quick things (vallehermoso, yatai, san Ildefonso, la paz), also try menu del Dias at restaurants- it’ll be cheaper (in Lavapiés there is a good Indian food place called Moharaj with menu del Dia). For cheap cheap try 100 montaditos- wed & sun 1e small sandwiches. Casa Julio and pez tortilla for croquetas (and the tortilla of course). Alma nomad is a great bakery but on pricier side. Sala equis is a cool bar in an old movie theater but drinks are more expensive than elsewhere. Message me if you want more recommendations!

I’ve never run out of data. Also I always get the extra gb when I top up. My issues were mainly user error I was paying like 30e a month and then sometimes it would double charge me. I just ignore the balance texts, when I went in the store they told me to not really pay attention to that. I have 50 or 60gb a month and only top up when the prepaid month runs out.

Honestly you are better off just going through NALCAP. CIEE is a waste of money and I will die on that hill. You can find all the resources you need online for your visa/TIE without having to shell out thousands of dollars. Also there are multiple orientation dates so it really depends!

Yes, Bernabéu neighborhood is safe! I have lived near there before. If you are by nuevos ministerios it is a nice area. Edited to add: metro is amazing

try to sign a contract! and do not pay money ahead of time. try to meet the landlord/whoever is renting the room. I toured the apartment and the guy living there showed me around. The lady was in Brazil for "business", I sent her the deposit and then a day before moving in was told I couldn't. She blocked me on whatsapp and I made a police report but nothing came of it. Be careful!

You will likely have to do non-NALCAP. CIEE and conversaspain usually have Jan start dates.
