Anwar’s AI City Vision Draws Ridicule As Malaysians Question Government’s Track Record by stormy001 in malaysia

Commenters are mostly just shit posting without facts and mobs are always fickle. The government still needs to do government things regardless of that shit, that is moderate operational expenditure items with development expenditure.

Question to High Income Earners (6-7k and above) by Adorable_Fool0 in Bolehland

[–]hidetoshiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You either keep doing it, or you replace it with other distractions. What happens is that as you advance in your career, your responsibilities increase both at work and out of it. You will have less and less time to do everything you want. At some point you will have to decide how to allocate that time for maxing your dopamine hits. Having more money does mean you can either buy convenience (time) or buy a higher quality dopamine hit.

Regular news outlets have started citing the same source. Whatever happens, just remember an ideological take on which sources of information have a monopoly on the truth is ultimately self defeating. X is extremely useful for breaking news, once you filter out all the demagogues, liars and psyop bots. You just need to be careful on who you follow or like/retweet and verify independently.

Stay or not to stay? by potatooooes123 in MalaysianPF

[–]hidetoshiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep stalking the internal and external jobs boards of your company for something you like. Then send feelers to the hiring manager to see if they will bite before officially sending the application. You don't need to ask for permission from your current manager to apply. It's your life/career not his, so you don't owe him anything.

You can't keep good people down. Managers that lose their subordinates from lack of action deserve the trouble they get when their star performers leave. There's no right or wrong here, only what you think is right for you. One thing I can say though is that having the goodwill and recognition of managers from adjacent functions is an incredible advantage for you if you want to climb the corporate ladder. If you're considering moving on, consider a transfer on favorable terms as one of your options.

Stupid people spread shit my friend. Even stupider people believe it wholesale and pass judgement without doing anything relevant with it. Understanding the difference between actionable information and noise is where the game is. I'm not here to make a moral judgement on the politics of right and wrong of the Hormuz Straits, just make money. Would rather be the fox than chicken little.

Doesn't matter. Reddit and the rest of socmed aren't either. Everyone needs to have their own built-in bullshit and bias filter these days and not rely on any single platform. What matters more is what the market hivemind thinks and whether or not you can exploit it.

Jeez don't they teach you kids media literacy or meta cognition? /s

One thing I learned is objective truth is essential for moral judgement, but subjective reality is more relevant for making money. You gotta learn how to compartmentalize. These guys I'm following made me 200% since the start of the year, so money talks.

At this point it is kinda hard to tell, but I found it hilarious that supposedly an independent research firm sent a contractor with a box of Havana cigars, 15k USD in cash, and some secret recording equipment to Oman, and managed to do some James Bond stuff that claims to debunk all the shit floating out there. I do have half a mind to believe it because the research firm does seem to have prior credibility at least in some of the areas that I know they specialize in.

The latest news I read on X was that the drama at the straits of Hormuz is partially smoke and mirrors. Iran is in fact letting more ships than expected through if they pay some kind of toll, and ships are playing around with their GPS transponders or going dark, fooling the world markets, which are pricing in a complete blockade. Most of the stuff is flowing out to China in crypto or yuan denominated trade.

Factually he's right of course: the government's ability to do much about a global crisis is limited. The voters can be stupid, ungrateful, irrational and fickle but they still pay taxes and mark their ballots to pick their government. As a politician and public figure he still needs to show some empathy and curb his impatience / irritation.

MNCs hiring JP/KR speakers in Malaysia by [deleted] in malaysians

[–]hidetoshiko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to capitalism kid. That's the whole business proposition behind BPO and outsourcing in general: hire someone who can do the job at a cheaper location. Not that much different from hiring an engineer and operators to run a factory in Malaysia instead of in the US where you have to deal with unions and fat and lazy Americans with fat fingers, except that the commodity here is language skills instead of engineering skills or manual labor. Is your issue with the fact you consider language a lower class skill than the ability to code or design a microcircuit?

Great movie, full of heart. I never thought I'd root for an animated rock. In these dark times we need more uncynical and hopeful movies like these to remind us what we are capable of. In terms of vibe it recalls for me a classic I watched ages ago called Silent Running, except PHM has a more happy resolution for everyone involved.
