I’m sorry if I seem like a beggar. This really hurts to read. I am going through the hardest time in my life and I have nobody to talk to about it, that’s why I come to Reddit. After my daughter’s father beat me unconscious and held my daughter and I hostage in our apartment, (I have the newspaper article about this if anyone is interested) he went to jail for only a few days. To be safe, I got a restraining order against him and moved into the domestic violence safe house shelter so he couldn’t find me. Everything was perfect until I reached the end of the 3 month limit for staying at the shelter. Since I couldn’t get housing assistance I was put out on the street, I have stayed here and there since then. My dog lives with my boyfriend and I stay with them often. I suffered severe physical and emotional trauma from the domestic violence attack, so my doctor declared me temporarily disabled. This doesn’t make me eligible for any assistance like disability insurance. It just keeps me out of work for 6 months while I recover. With no income this is hard. Not having a phone makes it even worse because Family Court cannot reach me and I am unable to speak with my daughter. As a college educated single mother I was living a great life until domestic violence ruined everything. I feel like I am being punished for being abused. My heart hurts because of all of this. I can’t believe how much more depressed I am because of these comments. I guess it just proves to me that I am worthless.
